But her face was devoid of any expression as she looked at him, ’’Dr. Qin, there is a patient outside. I have checked his old medical records it looks like he has a non-cancerous tumor....’’

’’And what has it got to do with me?" Alex Qin twirled his cigarette between his fingers as he checked the time on his watch.

’’It was an emergency so I brought him here with me,’’ Veronica gulped, understanding that he was insinuating that his working hours were over.

’’Brought the patient here?" Alex arched a brow at her.

’’He was Dr. Warner’s patient...’’ but his secretary was not capable enough to deal with him.

She had yet to finish her sentence when the man said, ’’Oh?" The distaste on his face at the mention of Maxim was pretty apparent, ’’So, that incapable man couldn’t handle this case and so he abandoned his leftovers to me? For what?’’ His eyes narrowed.

’’No, actually...’’ Veronica hesitated. She had wanted to shoot that arrow at Diana and spread rumors about how inefficient she is but she did not realize that she would get Maxim’s name dragged into the mud.

It was not a secret that Alex hated Maxim.

’’Shh. If he wants me to take over this complicated case, then invite him over to beg me while he screams how incapable he is. I would let my grandfather witness it so that he can see the kind of person he favors,’’ With that said, the man took a whiff from his cigarette and walked out.

Veronica followed him to clarify that it was not some complicated case that Maxim could not handle but in the end, she changed her mind. Alex was a capricious man, a great neurosurgeon but a moody one, and to top it off, the Director was his grandfather.

She did not want to provoke him and be fired over a small matter like this. There would be more opportunities to get rid of Diana.

With that thought, she looked around the place for the patient who had followed her only to find him dozing off on one of the hospital seats.

Veronica frowned. She was gone for only two minutes and he had dozed off...

She approached him, "Sir... Excuse me?"

His eyes snapped open.

Veronica stepped back on instinct when her gaze met his narrowed eyes.

For a split-second, she felt like that gaze was somewhat familiar but she was certain that she had never seen this man before today.

His expression turned normal when he recognized her, ’’W-Where is the doctor?"

Veronica handed him back his reports and gave him the card of another neurosurgeon in the Artemis Hospital. He was a capable doctor as well but he could not outshine people like Maxim and Alex, ’’Dr. Qin has been quite busy so I let him check your reports. He told me that there is nothing serious. You just need to get the tumor removed and it’s non-cancerous so you have nothing to worry about. Please visit this doctor. He is more than capable to handle it...’’

’’Dr. Qin...?" the man frowned at her.

’’Oh, he is the doctor here. His name is...’’ her phone started ringing at that moment, ’’Please excuse me.’’

Looking at her retreating back, the man glanced at the doctor’s office and frowned.

No... It could not be that person.

By the time Diana came back with the form in her hand, she found the hallway empty.

Her brows tugged together.

Where did that man go?

She had seen him lurking a few days ago as well and he had disappeared just like this. Did he change his mind again?

’’Diana, there you are,’’ Mary walked towards her.

’’Mary,’’ Diana glanced at the head nurse.

’’Aren’t you done with the work yet? Why are you still holding this?" she grabbed the form in her hand and placed it on the chair, ’’I don’t see any patients around. Let’s go and get some coffee.’’

Mary patted her back as they walked towards the pantry, ’’Don’t you worry. There are countless patients like that everyday. Diana’s brows relaxed when she heard Mary’s words. Now, the experience came to the limelight in situations like this. She could handle the forms and all based on her knowledge but when a matter like this popped up, she indeed experienced a brief rush of panic.

’’That makes sense,’’ Diana glanced at Mary gratefully.

Mary smiled, ’’You will get used to it over time,’’ After they grabbed their coffees, they went to Mary’s desk.

Diana leaned back on the desk as she sipped the coffee, ’’Mary, can I ask you something?"

’’Of course, Diana. Ask right away,’’ Mary winked.

’’But didn’t you say I am not supposed to gossip in the workplace?" Diana quirked a brow.

’’Um, yes you can’t.’’

Diana pouted.

Mary glanced at her watch, ’’Okay, your working hours are over,’’ she said after sharp two minutes, ’’Now, you can speak.’’

Diana was speechless when she looked at the time, ’’Can you tell me why Veronica is so hostile towards me?" Although some time had passed since that incident but that woman glared at her whenever they crossed paths and that made her wonder if she had somehow offended her.

’’Uh...’’ Mary was speechless.

Diana was more certain something was amiss, ’’Is it something unspeakable?"

Mary sighed and motioned her to lean closer.

Diana straightened up from the desk and angled her head towards the woman.

’’Veronica is going to be a doctor in the future. In fact, she started working here to gain experience and also because she had a crush on one of our doctors...’’

Diana raised a hand as she interrupted the woman, ’’Wait!"
