Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 128: Director’s grandson

Chapter 128: Director’s grandson

And after their working hours, Diana always found Maxim in his office.

Sometimes, he would be reading a book. Not the kind of smutty books she read in her spare time. He stuck to his reputation and read professional stuff.

Sometimes, he would be taking care of the succulents in his office, and sometimes, he would be staring at the empty photo frame.

Coincidence or not, pretty much every time she would bump into him and he would drive her back to her place.

She avoided conversations with him by putting on the earpods and listening to music at full volume when she sat in his car but hell if her skin did not tingle with every gaze he spared her way.

On the fourth day of ’ignore Maxim at work’, Diana’s center of focus shifted from Maxim for some time when she saw a familiar face lurking near the hallway of Maxim’s office.

He was the same middle-aged man who had been lurking here a few days ago.

She approached him, ’’Sir, do you need an appointment?"

’’Are you sure that you can cure me?" the man grabbed her hand agitatedly.

Diana pushed him away on instinct. As he staggered back, she immediately reached out to support him by his shoulders, ’’I was caught off guard. I apologize,’’ she was not good with people’s random touches since she was young because her younger self would know her mother was angry every time her grip turned stronger on her wrist or hair.

Sometimes, her mother would be in the middle of combing her hair and she would suddenly lose her temper over something and yank her hair. So, it made her wary whenever she raised her hand and this habit stuck around most of the people she did not trust.

The man looked at her as if he was about to reprimand her for daring to behave that way with him.

And Diana knew it was her fault for losing her calm. In the hospital, it was normal for patients to be sentimental or to lose their composure but she was the doctor’s assistant. For her to push the patient away like that, would only reflect badly on Maxim.

’’I am so sorry. I did not mean it,’’ she apologized again, ’’I was surprised...’’

The man waved his hand dismissively, mild irritation between his brows as he said, ’’You talked about the appointment. Tell me, can you cure me?"

’’I am not a doctor,’’ Diana frowned. It would soon be past her working hours and it looked like it was going to take some time with this patient, ’’But we need to check your condition first before the doctor. Also, if you have visited some other hospital before, we will need to go through your records....’’

’’Then who is the doctor? Tell me the success rates of the cases they handled," the man interrupted.

Diana was speechless, ’’Maxim Warner, one of the top neurosurgeons in the country. You can do your own research on him, sir,’’ she consoled when she noticed that he seemed to be paranoid about his health.

The man hesitated for a moment before he nodded, ’’I will make an appointment..’’

’’Please wait here then,’’ Diana smiled, ’’Let me get the form. You will need to fill it out before I record your data.’’

The man nodded again.

As Diana left, she did not notice someone observing the scene from a distance.

Veronica strode towards the patient when Diana was out of sight, ’’I don’t know what lies she fed you but don’t be fooled. She is a business graduate with no experience in the hospital. You should rather come with me if you are looking for a doctor in the neurology department. I work for the Director’s grandson. I can help you get the appointment as well.’’

The man’s face was filled with confusion, ’’The girl just now... wasn’t a professional?"

’’No,’’ Veronica said without hesitation and smirked in victory when the man seemed to be taken aback.

After some thought, he said ’Lead the way’.

’’We will need to go through your records and fill out the form first.’’

Veronica could not forget the humiliation she had to endure that day. People alienated her after they realized that Diana might have a special relationship with Maxim.

And later... he... he met her two days ago.

She was taken aback when Maxim walked toward her but her surprise faded the moment he opened his mouth and warned her to stay away from Diana lest she wanted to be fired.

She knew it was useless to lure one patient away like this but she hated Diana’s guts. As a hospital staff, she could not do much but if the patients raised complaints about the unprofessional and inexperienced staff then a renowned hospital like Artemis Hospital won’t take it lying down.

The Director will kick Diana out personally.

She felt comforted by the thought of it.

’’Ahh... Ah... Doctor...’’

Veronica’s face stiffened and she halted in front of the office room. She turned around and glanced at the patient who was following her, the man’s face had darkened.

’’Apologies but gathering your reports and getting the form filled took me a lot of time,’’ she said.

What her words meant was that their doctor’s inexcusable behavior was due to the working hours being over.

The patient looked placated by her words.

Veronica was relieved as she knocked on the door.

After some time, the female hospital staff did her walk of shame out of the doctor’s office.

Veronica stepped inside only to be greeted by the sight of a handsome man leaning back against the window with a cigarette between his lips.

Now, the kind of things that had happened against the window? The fresh imprints on the glass panes spoke volumes about it.

The director’s only grandson was a man full of charms. So much so that half of the hospital staff were fucked by him and they did not mind being his one-time partners.
