Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 122: Used to kiss my hand
Chapter 122: Used to kiss my hand
But before he could close the diary, his name caught his attention.
Maxim paused and despite his reluctance to invade her privacy, his curiosity got the best of him.
So he skimmed past his name which was in the middle of the page and started reading from the beginning of that page.
’Dear Diary, you probably hate me now, don’t you? As silly as it is, I am certain that even your lifeless self is sick of me and my constant whinings by now. Sometimes I wonder if that is why Warner and I are no longer friends. Was I just too clingy, irritating, and meddlesome for not respecting his boundaries? Was I at fault?
It has been one month since our exams. We did not meet each other again. He did not contact me and I did not do it as well. Why would I? He blocked my number at one point. I have my pride. If he doesn’t want to talk to me, so be it. I won’t die without him.
That’s what I thought and I believed that I will be able to stick to it till the end. But it’s sad, grey and so melancholic without him. I came back to the mansion after exams. It has been pouring in Beijing and the raindrops crashing against my window make me wonder if he was just like them. Beautiful and nostalgic but fleeting...
Woah... I sound like an author describing him in such a romantic way, don’t I? On a second note, I don’t feel as happy.
Mom and Dad had another argument yesterday and Dad stormed out of the mansion. Daisy’s phone is not reachable and sitting alone in my room, I can’t help but think of how he used to kiss my hand to comfort me whenever I felt upset.
Most of the time, he did not know the reason I was upset but it was as if Maxim Warner was my private mood tracker app. He could sense my emotions appropriately and dole out the adequate amount of cure, sometimes by cracking jokes with that straight face of his, sometimes just by his presence, and sometimes by kissing my hand. It’s stupid that he made me get used to him and now that I need him to be here with me, all I find is his absence and this ridiculously empty feeling he left me with.
I hate him so much. I hate Warner. I will always hate him, Diary. Mark my words.’
The urge to skim to the next page was intense.
Maxim wanted to know if her parents made up and lessened her anxiety. He wanted to know if she was able to contact her sister. He wanted to find out if the rain stopped along with his memories just as much as he wanted to know whether her sadness faded or not. And...whether she hated him a bit less in the next pages.
But he closed the diary in the end.
The complicated feelings in his heart intensified when his phone rang and he found her name springing up.
He answered the call.
’’Hey...’’ her nervous voice sounded from the other side, ’’Um, did you get my clothes...’’
He looked at her dresses splayed around him, ’’Out of this mess?"
She laughed, her hesitant voice fading in the background, ’’Why? Did I provoke the clean freak in you?" the sass back in her tone.
’’Pretty much did.’’
’’Really?"
’’I was considering fixing this mess for you the moment I saw it,’’ he said with a soft sigh.
’’Damn, that’s serious. But don’t do it okay? I am moving here anyway...’’ Diana trailed off.
Maxim sighed again, ’’Yeah, you are moving out.’’
After a moment of silence, Maxim took the initiative to speak, ’’I am leaving Angel with Ivy. You need to rest tonight.’’
’’I will miss her.’’
He could imagine her pouting slightly just by her tone, ’’You are coming back to the mansion tonight. Take the noon and evening off to get some rest. You won’t be able to take care of her properly.’’
’’Alright.’’
’’Did you eat?"
’’No?"
’’Then, eat.’’
’’Alright,’’ Diana whispered.
Both of them knew she was not going to eat alone. After a small pause, Maxim asked, ’’The tea?"
"I had it.’’
’’Do you feel unwell?"
’’No...’’
’’Are you sad?"
’’No...Huh?" Diana seemed stunned, ’’Sad? Sad for what?"
Maxim stayed silent as he watched the closed diary quietly. He was doubting his sanity for asking her if she was sad after reading her diary entry from years ago. But the need to do it was intense.
’’Are you talking about period mood swings, Warner? If it is that way, then let me tell you, my moods don’t swing that much. In fact, they don’t swing at all. I am always fluffy and sweet like candy floss,’’ A hint of narcissism in her tone as she added, ’’You know, I am that never raining, always shining kind of sunshine girl. Like a sunflower."
An involuntary chuckle slipped from his lips, ’’Alright, my sunshine girl. Hang up first so that I can drive over to you.’’
A pause on the other side made him review his sentence and he traced the ’my’ that he added.
His... Was she his? No.
But was it easy to claim her as his? Yes. His mouth slipped off easily when it came to her.
Maxim did not feel a tad bit guilty for making her speechless. She did it more often with those casual thank-you kisses of hers.
’’Um... Actually, I called you for something else,’’ A pause.
’’I am listening.’’
Another pause. ’’Along with my dress, get me my panties and bra as well. Thank you. Bye.’’
Maxim glanced at his phone, thought of that hesitant and shy voice of hers, and then looked down at the strain in his pants.
His eyes fluttered close as the urge to slam his head backward on the wardrobe surface overwhelmed him.
6 years had passed without them seeing each other.
Yet she was still an obsession.
A maddening obsession that was like the kind of fire that only burned brighter and brighter.
