Contract marriage:Mother for rent, wife for free
Chapter 28: Too little, too late!

Chapter 28: Too little, too late!

"Hi ma’am. I heard you requested for the Manager." Lin wei’s voice was silky smooth.

A few smartly dressed staffs were scurrying up and down, picking up clothes, shoes and bags.

"Are you joking me?" Dull chit inquired, eyes narrowed dangerously.

Lin wei squared her shoulders and nodded stiffly. She adjusted the necktie stiffly.

"Aren’t you the low life who left here just now?" She was genuinely confused.

"Yes I was. And now I’m the manager. It’s how these things goes." Her eyes were tight.

"Oh well, I guess you’ll do. I need all the limited editions you have in this store." She announced proudly.

"What is your name?" Lin wei found the words slipping out of her mouth. It honestly defied logic, how people like her could walk around with nothing in their brain except for the latest collection.

Lin wei supposed it was money. After all, people with money are always respected whether they’re deserving of it or not.

"You’re awfully chatty for a Manager." She retorted.

Lin wei but back the sharp words on her tongue. Better to play the doleful Manager until the real one could get his breath under control.

The poor had been having an asthmatic attack when Lin wei found him. Face purpled from straining to breath.

He’ll probably drop dead from exhaustion talking a minute with this one.

"Get to work." She growled.

"Whatever pleases your ladyship." Lin wei bowed sarcastically.

"Oh, and do something about the lemonade. I’m parched." she called from her shoulder.

She’ll get her something alright. Something like a knock on her empty skull. Nothing like a resetting whack to the brain to teach a girl suitable manners.

Bai yue scrambled out of the rows of dresses, her forehead creased when her eyes found Lin wei.

Garbled in a shirt twice her size, a tie that was sorely knotted, trousers rolled up around the ankle, and a glinting tag that said "Manager Ahn". She must look like the female version of the joker.

"Are you well?" Bai yue screeched, just like Lin wei knew she would.

She grabbed her friend hurriedly, who flailed her arms, a scream bubbling on her throat.

Getting to a secluded part of the room, Lin wei released her death grip.

"You have two minutes to explain." Bai yue demanded.

Lin wei rubbed her forehead that was throbbing violently with the promise of a huge headache. Really, how does she explain the fact that she’s now a Manager within an hour of shopping.

Lin wei was ever getting roiled up in dramas that were worthy of soap operas.

"I’m the Manager_"

"So I can see." Bai yue squinted at the badge.

"_for now. The poor man is having an heart attack and he needs the job desperately. His daughter is in college, you see. And he can’t he talk properly. How was he to face that peahen?"

Bai yue was quiet fir a suspicious number of minutes.

"The man told you all that?" She asked shrewdly.

It was Lin wei’s turn to blush furiously. She coughed and patted her cheeks. Oh well

"He wheezed them out." She said stolidly.

*~*~

Thirty minutes later, Lin wei was ready to do someone bodily harm. Especially this tall gorgeous in front of her.

Lin wei had worked three shifts together for months, yet she’d never been frazzled as she was now.

The lady was brutally demanding, rejecting this, wanting that, and rejecting it some more.

"That’s the only size we have in this color." She said for the third time.

Her fist was clenched beside her.

"Get it for me!" She screeched. She handed the glass of bubbling crystal to a female staff who looked on the verge of tears.

"How, pray tell?" She tried to be reasonable.

One of them has to be.

"I don’t care!!"

"You know what I think?" Lin wei asked quietly.

"I don’t care what you think. I’m having that dress in mustard yellow."

Lin wei opened her mouth to deliver a sharp retort but was stalled with a raised hand.

"And no, I do not want it resized. I want exactly my size." She said sulkily.

"I this k you need to invest in good behavior," the lady spluttered indignantly but oh no, Lin wei wasn’t done.

Bai yue shook her head desperately. She made covert eyes at Lin wei. But she wasn’t having any of it.

If she was going to go to jail, well then, so be it.

There’s a limit to the amount of stupidity a girl can tolerate in a day and this was exceeding it. Plus, Lin wei had caffeine eight hours ago, that was a disaster itself.

"Or better still, a new brain wouldn’t go amiss. As there’s nothing inside that one in your head. I’ve met my fair share of idiots, but never did I think I’ll have the misfortune to witness such a grand display of idiocy."

The room had now gone deathly silent. A few customers had brought out their phone, snapping furiously away.

"What did you just say?"

"Whatever you could comprehend with that malfunctioning cerebrum."

"I’ll have you arrested." She was engrafed.

Lin wei cackled, a stark sound that reverberated in the silent room. Several staffs were exchanging anxious glance.

"You’ll not the first to threaten me with that. And I sincerely doubt you’ll be the last." She retorted.

Her heart pounded beneath her breast. What was going on? Why did she say all that?

Regret welled up inside her throat like a I’ll concealed bone inside a bone broth.

She was done for, but at least she gave her a piece of her mind.

So it was probably the surprise that had Lin wei’s jaw dropping to the ground, when the door open to admit the man that haunted Lin wei’s erotic dreams and now nightmares.

It was none other than the CEO of Wang corporation, Ezekiel Wang. His cold eyes surveyed the room, piercing and intense, Lin wei

found herself shivering involuntarily.

"Zeke!" The lady said, speared Lin wei a smug smile.

Oh well, Lin wei supposed the orange jail clothes would contrast nicely with her pale skin.
