Chapter 65: 65. Broken glass

"I_ I didn’t do anything." Are the first words he says.

"Y_You signed the papers of consent yourself."

Instantly, my head goes blank. Everything inside is deleted and I’m just staring at the man in front of me with my eyes opened wide.

Then like an empty tank being filled by water in full force, the words he just said begin to fill my head. Again and again the words are dancing round and round in my head, filling up the blankness that had taken over for a moment.

And the more it replays, the more absurd it sounds.

I’m telling myself I must have heard wrong, but then the voice is still replaying in my head again and again, assuring me that indeed I heard what he said.

But... What is he trying to say?

No, what’s he saying? I mean, huh?

"What?" I breathe out the question that is roaming around in my head, threatening to drive me mad.

"Am I wrong? Y_Your signed the documents yourself!" The more he speaks the higher his voice goes and the higher it goes, the more irritating it becomes to my ear. "You signed the papers to undergo the procedure so what does it have to do with me!"

I look up at Alan to see if he’s also hearing what Rowan is saying. The look in his eyes tells me that indeed he’s hearing the exact same rubbish coming out from his mouth.

"I mean, did I force you to sign the papers? Huh? Am I the reason you didn’t read them before signing? Haha. I mean what do—"

"You_ you_YOU SCUM OF A BITCH!!!" I scream and with nothing but rage in my head, I swing my fist, landing a blow on his face.

"You crazy—" He lifts his hand, but then I notice his eyes move toward Alan for a quick second and that hand comes down to his side again.

"How could you do this?!" I yell and pounce on him, throwing slaps and punches on his already bruised face.

I can’t believe he has no remorse! He did something like that to me and he has no remorse.

What kind of beast is he? How could he take away something he knows I yearn for so much?

"How could you do this to anyone!!! What did I ever do to you?!" I cry hot tears as I scratch and slap his face with the intention to mar him for life just like he has done to me.

"All I did was love you! What did I do wrong?!!" I scream as I continue to throw slaps from and to every corner my hand can reach.

He blocks my attacks with his hand, trying to cover his face but I am seething with rage and I cannot think straight right now. All I want to do is destroy this trashy human being in front of me.

"Ahhh! Fuck!! Get off me!" He yells and pushes me off his body, but I grab onto his leg and pull him down again, pouncing on him once more like a patient who has escaped from a psychiatric ward.

"What the fuck is wrong with you, you bitch!" He screams and once again manages to push me off his body, quickly staggering to his feet before I can get a hold of him again.

"Did I beg for your love? Huh?! Why the fuck are you doing this to me?!! Am I the one who said you should be a gullible, easy little bi—" BAM!

A heavy blow from Alan sends him staggering into the wall, hitting a frame there, causing it to fall and crash onto the ground.

The shattering sound of glass fills the room as Rowan tries to gain composure only to have Alan grab him again and deliver more punches to his.

Slowly, I also rise to my feet...

Rowan somehow breaks free from Alan’s grip "I see the beating we gave you the last time didn’t reset your mode of thinking. Come here, let me beat you up some more." Alan says as he catches the man again.

I have no idea what Alan is talking about but it would seem he has had some kind of encounter with Rowan before. Perhaps, was he behind the bruises that were on Rowan’s face in the first place?

Right now Rowan’s face is blackened and bleeding and I don’t feel sorry at all. "Hit him harder!" I scream, I want him to suffer some more! Alan pauses as I scream those words out.

"Hit that bastard harder!!!" I scream again and like a servant hearing his master’s orders, with one hand on the neck of Rowan’s shirt, Alan rains down more heavy blows on him.

"Why?! Why?!" I scream in pain.

"If you didn’t want me, you could have just said so." But he was the one who came to me.

"If you didn’t love me you could have just divorced me earlier." He was the one who entered my life and told me he loved me first. He was the one who followed me around until I said yes. So why?!!

"If you hated the idea of having children so badly then you should have just said so!!!" He could have just continued to turn me down whenever I asked for sex, just like he always did.

No... even after I had that surgery he still continued to turn me down, so what exactly was the reason he did what he did?

"Why?! Why?!!" I scream and break down, crashing onto the ground and crying. Why would you hurt a person who has never done anything wrong to you?

I feel warm arms around me and I know Alan has left Rowan and is hugging me.

"Come now, everything is going to be fine." Alan is saying as I cry with my face buried on his arm.

He doesn’t know anything. It can never be fine again. Nothing will be fine from now on. My life has changed now. I don’t think I can remain the same anymore. Even right now my head is a mess.

I can hear Rowan laughing maniacally. How did I ever end up with such a man?

I lift my head from Alan’s arm and I stare at the madman I once called husband. "Did Alicia tell you to do it?" His laugh abruptly dies. His eyes roam around guiltily in their sockets and his trembling fingers are starting to pick at each other.

I don’t know what made me think this way, I don’t know why my head suddenly went to Alicia, but I can tell... I am right.

"So she asked you to take away my ability to have a child of my own."

"I_ I don’t know what you’re talking about. Alicia had nothing to do with you signing the papers for the hysterectomy procedure."

He’s lying.

Oh what a pathetic life I have lived.

It’s so pathetic that I can’t help but begin to laugh. I laugh and laugh as I move out of Alan’s arms and rise to my feet.

"So she really was the mastermind behind everything." I laugh even harder with tears trailing down my eyes.

"First she sent you to enter my life, to pretend to love me, then she made you marry me, then she was not satisfied with making me enter such a sham in the name of marriage, she was sleeping with you. And as if all that was not enough, as if her wickedness was not enough, she had you make me barren, haha!" I laugh.

I laugh and laugh till my laughter transcends into wailing and then goes back to laughter.

"Alan," I say with my eyes still on Rowan. "Let’s go home." I simply say.

"A_are you sure?" He asks and I nod. "Alright. Come on." He places a hand over my shoulder and the other on my arm and begins to lead me as I finally forcefully tear my gaze away from Rowan.

Silently, we walk toward the door, but then I high him let out a sigh of relief so I pause.

"Rowan," I turn and face him once again. "The last time I left this house in tears I said these words to you. That you and Alicia would pay for what you did to me." I say, "But to be honest, I haven’t put too much effort into making you both pay."

I calmly move out of Alan’s arms and walk back towards the despicable man...

"However, right now, I am telling you. Mark this day on your calendar, this time, this hour, this very minute. I swear by everything holy, I will make you all pay. From now on I will dedicate my blood, sweat and resources to destroying every single person who had a hand in this. From the person who plotted it, to the person who made me sign the papers, down to the bastard who carried out the surgery and the nurses who helped. I will destroy every last one of you... So help me God."

And with those words, I walk towards Alan and together we walk out of the house.

And as we walk away, my mind goes back to the glass that had shattered earlier. Right now, I am like that glass. I’m walking out like a broken glass, shattered into a million pieces. But like a broken glass, my edges are sharper and more dangerous than ever.
