Chapter 49: 49. Sunshades.

It’s the cold afternoon of a brand new day in a brand new year and I can’t stop the immense joy I feel as once again I successfully snatch up another investment deal from Gold group.

Duke really was right, revenge tastes so sweet.

As expected, Alicia had personally handled this proposal, I had a feeling she would. Seeing how she had tried to make Duke notice her, I’m certain she wouldn’t want to miss any chance to see him and try to steal him.

However, I feel a little sorry for her though. Not only did Duke sit this one out because as always he was still asleep all through the time I woke and dressed up. And I personally did not wake him because I wanted to try doing this one on my own.

And yes, I completely crushed her proposal with a better one of my own.

I can almost see my aunt raging with anger and Alicia is probably as red as her mother.

*Knock *Knock*

"Come on in." I say without lifting my head from my computer. "Have the marketing team submitted the list of promotional video ideas I asked for?" I ask, believing it’s Alan.

"If you don’t know the answer to that, how should I know?" At once my head and eyes turn toward the door and I can’t help the beam that comes to my entire being.

I’ve been holding myself from calling him and telling him all about the deal I scored today, but now that he’s here, I just want to pour everything out to him like a child who’s excited to be complimented after doing something good.

"Duke!" I call his name. "Why are you here?" I ask.

"Let’s go on a date." He suddenly says and my eyes widens.

"M_me and you?"

"Sorry princess," He says and finally moves away from the door, "When they heard I was coming to see you, they insisted on tagging along."

"MUMMY!" I hear their scream and Alan walks in with the two of them upon his arms, he places them on the ground and as they run to me I rise from my chair to match their enthusiasm, meet them half way, crouch down and take them in my arms.

"My babies!!" I hug and kiss them and they giggle gleefully.

"Mummy, you yook byubwiful." Shelly says, and I don’t know why I get so happy when either of them compliments me.

"I yike your neckyace." Renny says while touching it. I look up at Duke and I’m blushing now.

"I like it too, daddy got it for me." I say.

"Weally? Daddy will you get me mine too?" She asks.

"Sure kiddo." He says and she smiles.

"Thank you." She says in a sing-song kind of way. "And for Shelly too?" She asks and he nods. "YAY!" She jubilates. I just love the light in their eyes. It’s bewitching.

"Mummy yook, we have gyasses like you too." Shelly points at the black sunshades dangling on the neck of their clothes. "Daddy also has one too." I look up at Duke, it’s true, he has one on the neck of his shirt too.

"Wow, you all have glasses." I say and they both nod.

"But seriously, what are you all doing here?" I lift my head and ask Duke.

"Well," He moves closer to us as I rise to my feet, "We all just missed you so much, ain’t that right kids?" oh, he sure knows how to make me blush.

"Yes!!" They scream and jump in agreement and he moves closer to me and out of nowhere places a kiss on my cheek. That was so random!!! What did I do to earn a kiss? I’m blushing foolishly again.

"Urgh! He won’t come to work, yet the one who does come, he’ll come and disturb her." That’s Alan.

Duke throws him a death glare, and the young man just acts like he didn’t even notice the evil eyes looking at him and calmly walks out but not before waving at the twins and saying, "I’ll also be taking the day off too. Don’t look for me."

That man, seriously.

"Well, can we go now?"

"But I really still have work to do."

"I’ll help you with it later." He says.

"B_but—mmph"

"D_Duke, the kids." I say as he abruptly kisses me.

He looks down at the two of them and he smiles at their blushing faces, "Close your eyes kids, I need to persuade your mother." He says to them and like robots they listen!

"Duke—" one hand wraps around my waist and the other around my neck. He pulls me closer to his body, bends himself down to my level and takes my lips again, this time more intimately.

My hands can’t not hold on to him. So I wrap my hand around the part of his back I can hold onto, my entire body feeling and taking in the sweetness of his mouth, his finger at the back of my neck tickling me sweetly.

"Duke—" I call his name, I’m going dizzy. No, it’s more like I’m getting drunk. "we should stop." I manage to say, but he covers my mouth again. Kissing me, so slowly and I think I’m getting addicted to this.

"I’ll go-" I finally say.

"Let’s go on the date." I give in. I had no chance of winning in the first place. With Duke, I think I’ll always lose, and for some reason, I feel fine knowing that fact.

"You could have taken a little longer to agree, I wouldn’t mind." He croons and places a soft kiss on the side of my lips.

"Alright kids, you can open your half closed eyes now." He says and they.

"What about Mary?" I ask.

I grab my bag and phone. I’m about to pick up a file when he replies "Mary has taken the rest of the day off." and he takes the file out of my hand and dumps it back on my desk. "No work for the rest of the day." He says.

"But it’s just past twelve, the day is still very young." I mumble.

"And we’re going to spend it having fun." He says, "That means," He takes his hand to my face and pulls off my glasses, "this guy should give way for this guy." He pulls out another pair of sunshades from his pocket, just like the one he has on his neck.

He places it on my face, "Perfect." He says, "Kids, put on your glasses in style."

"In styleeee!" They echo and I have to hold back my laugh as I watch them actually doing slow motion while wearing their glasses. The moment it sits on their faces, they fold their hands on their chest and look up at me with that inherited smirk and say again, "In style."

Dear God, you made them so freaking cute!!!

"Daddy, you now!" Renny says.

"Of course baby girl." He says and stylishly puts on his own.

They are cute... The twins are very cute in their glasses. I mean with Renny in her blue puff jacket and her white Jean, a matching blue bow in her hair and her small black sneakers. Shelly in his equally blue puff jacket, black jeans and black sneakers, his hair styled to match Duke’s. He looks like a miniscule version of Duke.

Truly, they look cute.

But daddy...

In his all black attire, only the gold wristwatch on his wrist is a different color. Everything is black, now with the dark shades... damn.

"It looks good on you." Thank God I didn’t say he looks hot.

"Thank you darling." He says and picks up Renny, "Now we match." He kisses her on the cheek as I pick up Shelly.

"We all match." I press my nose on the boy’s own.

Duke takes my bag from me and I don’t know how he’s managing to do it with Renny on his arm, but he brings my glass case from inside my bag, places my glass inside, my phone goes in next and he clips the bag close.

"Now can we go?" He asks, while still holding on to my bag. He doesn’t seem to have intentions of returning it.

"Onward and forward!" I point at the door and the twins shout with even more enthusiasm.

"Yets goooo!" They both echo.

"Oh wait! I forgot my coat." I say as I run toward the coat hanger.

"Mummy always forgets her coat." says the young man in my arms.

"See, he knows you so well." Duke chuckles. "Give him to me." He says as it is clear I’m suddenly confused on how to wear it with Shelly in my hands.

Still with Renny and my bag in his hands, he collects Shelly too.

Quickly, I wear my coat, toss my hair over my shoulders and pat myself, "All done." I say and collect Shelly back.

"Now we can really go." I say causing Duke to make a face at Renny, I can see they are both making fun of me.

Finally ready, we step out of the office, I can see Alan already bolted.

Bouncing out of the elevator like a super classy family straight out of a movie, everyone making way for us, while still staring and greeting, and I like those eyes. They are not the malicious kind. Just the kinds that seem awestruck.

Dear God, I don’t know why, but I’m looking forward to this date.
