Contract Marriage starring Love and Revenge
Chapter 130. My son is missing.

Chapter 130: 130. My son is missing.

When the ID of the caller shows the name Duke, my entire body lights up delightfully as I clear my throat quickly and pick up the call.

They say when something great happens to you the first person you want to tell, the first person that comes to mind to share that joy with is someone you hold dear. Someone you love deeply.

With Duke it’s like that. Whenever something great happens to me, he’s the first one I want to contact. I can never wait to spill it all to him.

Just like now, I most certainly would have called him first to tell him the verdict of the court on Alicia’s case, so seeing his call coming in as soon as I step out of the court makes me even more happy.

"Hello, Duke—" I say with much enthusiasm. "I was just about to call you," I say as I continue my walk towards my car. "She got fourteen years Duke, Alicia got fourteen years. That does not compare to what she did to me but I think it’s fair enough and—"

"Pagne—"

I had forgotten one thing.

"Duke?" I pause in front of the opened door of my car.

I’d forgotten that it wasn’t only when something good happens to you that you want to tell that certain someone.

"Duke, are you okay? What is wrong?"

When something bad happens, when something heavy hits you, when you’re in pain, you also want to tell that person. You contact that person because they can give you comfort.

"Duke, hello Duke are you still there? Are you alright? Is something wrong?" The further the silence the more anxious I get.

It must be the same for Duke. I don’t know what exactly has happened but I can sense there’s something wrong. Deeply wrong.

"Duke, you’re scaring me. What is wrong?" I ask again.

"Pagne, they’ve taken Sherlock." My entire body freezes up at those words. An immense wave of cold sweeps over my body, penetrating deep into my bones like I’ve fallen into an icy lake. And the cold is biting into the tiniest part of me, making me go numb.

And as if to mock and contradict the cold I’m feeling, a sudden heat rises from deep within me, and my entire system is a mess. Beads of sweat are starting to form as my stomach twists and turns to a point that makes me feel nauseated.

The ground beneath my feet suddenly looks uneven like I’m wearing a lens that doesn’t match my eye and I stagger, "Madam!" The hired driver slash bodyguard whom Duke had insisted I took with me rushes to my side and holds onto me.

"D_Duke are—"

"Head straight home Pagne." He says. "There’s already a search for him, and I’m heading the search. We’ll find him soon. I’m informing you because you might be in danger too, so head straight home."

He says and ends the call.

Oh Dear God have mercy.

This can’t be happening. This just can’t be happening. First it was me and now it’s Sherlock. Oh God where could he be?

"Please get in the car ma’am. I’ll take you home." the man says as he gently escorts me and sets me in the backseat of the car. Hurriedly, he walks around the car, sits himself in the driver’s seat and we’re on our way.

Dear God, dear God this can’t be happening. Oh my poor baby. Please God keep him safe. Please God, you’ve never failed me, you won’t start now. Please keep him safe. Help us find him.

A thought suddenly comes to my mind. Is this a coincidence? Could this really be a coincidence? That the very same day Alicia is being sentenced is the day Sherlock suddenly gets kidnapped?

How did it even happen? How did they take him? Who could have—

And it suddenly hits me... It couldn’t have been Alicia. The only other person who would want to destroy my life, who’d always wanted nothing but to see me in pain, in tears... The only other person apart from Alicia who gets some kind of pleasure from my misery is... "Aunt Evelyn."

But how could she? How could she do that to a child who can barely pronounce his words properly! How can she harm a child!

If I’m right, then if anyone would know exactly where Sherlock is, it’d be aunt Evelyn. She will be able to give me a definite location.

"Change of plans, we’re not heading home." I say.

"But ma’am, I have explicit orders to bring you back home immediately."

"I don’t care!" I scream.

"I’m sorry ma’am but I can’t do that. The boss asked that I—"

"What do you think your boss would prefer? That I jump out of this damn car right now or you just do as I say?!"

"Ma’am—"

"It’s my son!!" I scream. "My son is missing!" I may not have given birth to them, but those children have been calling me mummy without the slightest hesitation since the very first day I was introduced to them.

That child who smiles ever so brightly whenever I come back home early, that child that runs to me with any new drawing he has proudly showing it off to me... that child who had cried himself to sleep when he thought I was never coming back... that child, he’s my child.

They are my children.

My child who I’ve come to love more than I love myself,

And he’s missing right now? How am I supposed to be calm?

I have never done anything for them yet because of me he’s been kidnapped and you expect me to just stay out?! Never!!

And I swear to God, I’ll do anything to find him.

"I’ll do anything to find him, so just do as I say or else I don’t mind causing an accident just to get out of this damn car if you insist on not taking me to where I want to!"

Silence flows between us for a while, like he’s contemplating within himself whether to listen to me or follow his original command.

"Where are we headed ma’am?" A sigh of relief escapes my lips as he says those words.

"Ashford Detention center." I say.

Without wasting any time, he’s switched lanes and we’re heading toward the direction of the detention center.

I take my phone and dial Frederick’s number. "Pick up, pick up, please pick up." I mutter to myself while biting my nails.

"Hello, Pagne, where are you? Did Duke—"

"Duke told me everything sir and I think I know just who is behind this so I will need your help." I say.

"What do you mean? Head home Pagne, you might be in danger as we speak." I knew he would say this, but I can’t allow anyone to dissuade me. I’ve been kidnapped before so I know how he must be feeling. He must be feeling quite scared at the moment, he must be terrified.

"I know. And I understand your concern for me sir, but nothing in the world can dissuade me at the moment so instead of wasting your time trying to talk me out of this, just lend me your help. Please sir." I say.

The line goes silent for a moment and then in the next, "What do you need?" He asks.

"I need to talk to my aunt in private. I need to see her face to face, no interruptions." If there’s anyone I know who has all the connections I need it’s my father-in-law. If anyone can get me enough time in that prison it’s him.

"Ashford detention center, right?" He asks.

"Yes sir."

"I take it you’re already on your way there?"

"Yes sir."

"You won’t receive any form of disturbance when you get there." Ah, thank God. As I expected, he will be able to help me.

"Thank you sir."

"Champagne," He calls me... "Be careful."

"Yes sir."

The drive from the court to Ashford detention center is originally just ten minutes and I think the driver can somehow sympathize with me because he makes it there in eight.

Just like Frederick had said, I’m facing no disturbance whatsoever. In fact it seems the name Grand is a door opener as just stepping out of my car, there’s already an officer waiting for me outside to guide me inside the detention center.

Without delay or a minute pause, I’m taken inside and we do not stop until we reach a certain door and the officer tells me, "Take your time."

"I don’t intend to waste much time." Not when my son is on the line.

He nods and opens the door for me and as I walk in, I see her sitting there, with her hands cuffed to the table and a smirk on her face.

"Well, well, well. Look who decided to come pay her dear aunt a visit."

Aunt Evelyn... How come she never gives me a reason to like her?
