"You should have seen the look on her face!" I say with a loud laugh as I happily explain my entire day to Duke as we settle into bed for the night.

"I didn’t even give her the chance to think of a proper response, I just said my piece and then instantly slipped into my car. Then I honked at her when she still stood there like a brainwashed doll. She staggered out of the way and I zoomed off."

"You obviously had a good time." He says with a soft laugh but he kind of seems absentminded.

"I did. Lately I’ve been seeing more expressions of Alicia than I have seen in all my years on earth. It’s quite refreshing to have the upper hand."

"Indeed." He says as he calmly strokes my hair.

"Dealing with her today again made me realize that I’ve been the cause of my own misery all these years. I let her bully me, placing her on such a high scale like she was untouchable. I failed to see that she was just a human being like me and I let her affect me too much."

"The fact that you’ve realized that now means that you know how much stronger you are now." He says with a kiss on my forehead. "I’m happy that you finally realize that."

"It’s all thanks to you. If it hadn’t been for you, I probably wouldn’t have realized that on my own. I’m happy you found me." I snuggle into his warmth and he naturally holds onto me with a tighter squeeze.

"But Duke,"

"Hmm?"

"Are you okay?" I don’t know, maybe it’s just my imagination but something feels off with him.

"What do you mean?" He pushes me back a little so he can stare at me and I meet his questioning gaze.

"I mean how are you?" I ask again.

"What?" He chuckles softly.

"Why are laughing? I’m being serious right now. How are you?" I ask again. I don’t know what it is, but something seems to be bothering him.

"I_ I’m fine." He chuckles again. "Why are you suddenly asking?"

"Because I want to know how you are feeling." I give him the response he had once given me.

He laughs again, "I’m fine my dearest."

"Are you sure you’re fine?" I ask again and he nods.

"I am."

"Alright." I nestle into his arms again only to bolt right up because I’m just feeling really uneasy. I sit myself up and stare at him.

"Tell me." I simply say.

"What?"

"The thing that is on your mind, the thing that is bothering you, tell me." I say.

I can’t just pretend like everything is okay just because he says he’s fine. I can just feel it. I don’t know how, but I can just feel that something is bothering him.

"Pagne," He adjusts himself to lay on his side with his elbow pressed on the bed and his head on his palm, "I’m fine. Nothing is bothering me. Maybe I’m just a little tired that’s all. I’m sincerely fine."

"Liar!" I hate that he’s lying. I hate that he’s bottling something up inside. "You always make me tell you things whenever I’m bothered. You always soothe me, why won’t you let me do the same? Why won’t you share things with me. I am worried about you, I want to know what is bothering you that’s why I’m your wife! If I’m able to lean on you, then you should also be able to lean on me or—"

"But I wasn’t bothered because of myself. I’m bothered because the matter concerns you."

"I didn’t know how exactly to tell you this, that’s what has been disturbing me." What could it be? It’s making me even more curious that he looks so serious.

"Duke, explain it to me."

He stares at me for a moment before letting out a soft sigh, "It’s about your grandfather."

"It seems his will was altered."

When he finally admitted he was indeed bothered about something, I wasn’t too surprised because I already felt it. When he said it was something that concerned me, I wasn’t overly surprised too because I find it normal at this stage that Duke worries about me.

"Pagne, trust me..." I do, I do trust you but, I don’t want tto believe this. "I would never tell you something like this unless I was already certain." Dear God that makes it even more painful because I know truly Duke wouldn’t tell me something like this unless he is entirely sure.

"Your aunt worked with Attorney Languine to alter your grandfather’s will. What was read to you wasn’t his original will. It was falsified."

Aunt Evelyn! Aunt Evelyn!! How could she go that far?! How could she stoop so low as to falsify grandpa’s last will?! How could she disrespect her own father like that?!

And what’s worse is that her actions made me think my grandpa had betrayed me. It made me hate the man in an instant.
