Conquering His Cold Heart
Chapter 484 - 484: Something Odd

Upon knowing that Anastasia was indeed kidnapped, not just kidnapped but drugged as well, Caspian was hell-bent on rushing to Silver Keep himself and looking for his wife.

However, given how he was not very emotionally stable at the moment, Vincent tried his best to convince Caspian to return to the castle.

"What if the kidnappers send a message to the castle and make their demands while you are not there? What if they have already done so and you are just delaying Her Majesty's freedom by being here? You should go back to the castle, Caspian. Let me handle things here. You don't have to worry about a single thing. I will manage everything.

Just make sure that the soldiers will follow my direction."

Caspian's brows twitched in discomfort. Although he really wished to look for his wife himself, what Vincent said sounded more sensible to him.

And after giving it a thought, he asked Vincent for a favor. "Alright. I will do as you say. But please, make sure that my wife is found soon. I will owe you one if you do."

"It's alright. You don't have to owe me anything." Vincent was simply greatly relieved when Caspian agreed to go back to the castle. A lot of lives would be saved if Caspian just stayed put.

It was not that Vincent was against punishing the culprits. It was just that he didn't wish to see the soldiers getting caught in the middle and facing undeserved punishment just because they breathed too loud.

Vincent helped Caspian up from the ground. He looked at Caspian's hands. Caspian was still fisting handfuls of dirt in both of his palms.

Vincent sighed and suggested, "Take a nice and long bath after checking if the kidnappers have sent any message for you. You don't want your wife to see you in this condition, do you?"

Caspian suddenly became self-aware when he followed Vincent's gaze and looked at his closed fists. He hadn't even realized what he had done until now.

He quickly emptied his fists and then said as he dusted off his palms, "I will head home then. Send a messenger right away if you face any problems. If everything goes smoothly, make sure to safely bring the Queen back."

Caspian's voice suddenly turned grim when he spoke about the kidnappers. "Also, make sure that you drag those bastards to the castle by tying chains to their feet. Drop them in the punishment room."

While seething with rage, he clenched his jaw and gritted through his teeth, "I would love to torture them until they beg me to show them some mercy by killing them."

Vincent simply nodded his head in response and watched Caspian's heavy body slowly hovering in the air before disappearing into the dark night.

He finally focused his attention on the two Queen's guards and apologized on Caspian's behalf, "I am sorry you two had to face his anger. Try not to take his action earlier to heart. He is just distraught is all."

"We both deserved it, Milord," John mumbled while still feeling utterly guilty.

Vincent exchanged a few more words with John and Isaac. And after making sure that they were slowly recovering from all the beating they received earlier, he asked, "John, you mentioned that someone saw the faces of the kidnappers, right? Can you tell me how many were there? Can you also give their description to me?"

John nodded his head. He was glad that he at least met someone who had witnessed the crime. Because of that woman's perceptive nature, they had some clues to work with.

"She couldn't exactly say how many people were working together. But she did say that she saw two men ushering Her Majesty inside the carriage. She said that both had black hair that fell just below their neck. One of them had a noticeable mole on the left side of the chin. They were dressed like average townspeople, nothing flashy."

"Average townspeople?" Vincent repeated. "Were they humans or vampires dressed as humans?"

"She said that they were humans but they weren't from Silver Keep."

Vincent frowned and mumbled after recalling something John had said earlier, "And she said that she had never come across them in the Capital as well. Unless they work as blood servants in some restrictive household, she should have seen them at least once in the places where humans gather."

John nodded and thoughtfully added, "We can send some soldiers to raid those households who have earned the name for treating their blood servants as human pets. I heard that some of them don't allow their blood servants to leave their premises."

"Hmm… Yes, we can definitely raid those houses." Vincent kept on nodding his head as he formed some plans in his head. He wanted to mobilize the resources optimally to find the Queen.

Amidst his thought process, his eyes fell on John, who was crinkling his brows and looking as though he was trying to recall more details.

Vincent wondered if John had something more to say and asked right away, "Is there something more that I should know?"

The frown lines on John's forehead deepened further. "I can't put a finger on it but something feels greatly odd."

"Odd how?" Vincent raised his brows.

John looked at Isaac who had turned into a statue now, and said, "Why did they abandon the carriage? They didn't even take the horses. How did they take Her Majesty away?"

Vincent didn't see any oddity there. He simply shrugged and said, "Maybe they met with their vampire handlers and handed Her Majesty over to them."

He didn't want to waste any more time, so he hastily asked John, "Give me the exact location where you found the carriage. I will gather some soldiers and start investigating from there. Maybe we can find the trail of footprints, or get some clues from the carriage."

John described the landmarks nearby and tried to give as accurate a location as he could.

After gathering all the information needed, Vincent finally took off from there, but not before asking the Queen's Guards to go back to the castle and get some rest.

Though John and Isaac didn't think that they deserved any rest, they did head back to the castle to recuperate. They needed to recover from Caspian's beatings if they wished to participate in the Queen's search.

"I wonder if Her Majesty is safe…" Isaac whispered with guilt as they were slowly dragging their feet back to the castle.

Even when every inch of his body was aching, he was still feeling as if he hadn't gotten enough punishment for committing such a blunder that led to the Queen's kidnapping.

John was obviously feeling equally guilty. Seeing Isaac so miserable didn't help at all. He gently patted Isaac's shoulder and said consolingly, "I bet the kidnappers are keeping her safe. They know they will have to face His Majesty's anger if they put so much as a scratch on Her Majesty's body."

Isaac breathed laboriously and mumbled again, "I hope they know that. Her Majesty is already weak. If anything happens to her… the whole Kingdom will have to face His Majesty's ungodly wrath."
