Conquering His Cold Heart -
Chapter 483 - 483: Sob Story
"So, all this happened because you got fucking hungry?"
Caspian asked in a low growl when Isaac, who was explaining everything, stopped talking. Caspian was so mad that he felt like jumping at Isaac again and ripping his head off after digging his chest for the heart.
Isaac couldn't say anything except lower his head in shame. He could barely remember what happened after he followed the strange man in the state of his trance. So, he didn't speak anything more.
John couldn't pick up where Isaac had left and retell the incident because he was too shaken by the chilling glare of the King.
Vincent, on the other hand, could already sense the thickening tension in the air. He did not want Caspian to have another fit of rage because he knew that if that happened, there would be dead bodies lying left and right.
So, he tightly gripped Caspian on the shoulder so as to remind him not to be aggressive and then prompted John to speak.
"John, what happened after that? Didn't you manage to return before Isaac left the Queen unguarded?"
Now that the King's attention was solely on him, John felt as if a huge boulder had been dropped on his chest and his heart got squashed by the weight.
Still, he took a deep breath through his mouth before finally explaining the incident from his perspective.
"I would have returned sooner. But unexpectedly, a few bolts of the tire of the carriage came loose. And I stayed back to help Benjamin fix it thinking Isaac was with the Queen. Now that I think about it, the tire may have been deliberately tampered with."
"Do you have any lead on who might have done that?" Vincent asked in a calm voice although it was progressively becoming more and more difficult to maintain his composure.
John shook his head. "I didn't see anyone suspicious. Benjamin didn't mention anything either. After helping Benjamin, I immediately ran to the place where we had agreed to meet. Isaac and Her Majesty weren't there yet. I didn't immediately start to look for Her Majesty because at first, I thought that the two of them probably went to buy something and waited for them to return."
John's face turned very dim. He looked as if he was regretting that particular decision of his. And rightly so.
"But when they didn't return even after around fifteen minutes, I started to get worried. Isaac had said that they wouldn't take much time. So, I began to look around for any signs of them. Then I heard someone saying that the Queen had visited them. I went there, to the clinic, and questioned the man there. He said that the Queen had left that place around twenty minutes ago.
When I asked if she went along with the other royal guard, he said that he didn't see one."
John gulped dryly, his eyes full of guilt. "It finally dawned upon me that something was terribly wrong."
"I immediately began to run around the area to look for Her Majesty. I even asked around for any information but the villagers, like always, seemed wary of me and didn't answer properly. I went back to our meeting point and asked Benjamin to wait there in case Her Majesty and Isaac came around. Then I continued to run around the town, clueless as to what might have happened."
"When I was about to give up the search and rush to the castle for backup, a kid came to me and said that she had seen a man dressed like me in a ditch nearby." John glanced at the battered face of Isaac and continued, "I found him in an unconscious state. After slapping him a couple of times, he finally came to his senses and we both continued the search."
Caspian was waiting for John to give any clues about the whereabouts of Anastasia. And when that took forever, he finally lost it and grabbed John by the collar.
He glared right into John's soul and yelled, "Just cut to the chase and tell me if you found any clue, darn it! I don't need to hear your sob story!"
John was almost scared to death when the King suddenly screamed at his face. He gathered his lost breath and managed to whisper, "A young lady said that she saw the Queen getting inside a carriage and leaving the town."
Caspian suddenly felt his head spinning wildly. 'She… left? She ran away?' He loosened his grip on John's collar and abruptly dropped to the ground on his knees.
"Caspian!" Vincent tried to give a hand to Caspian but the latter refused.
Caspian's breathing became heavier and heavier and his heart colder and colder. For the first time, he was shivering as though he was freezing.
John realized what his words sounded like and wanted to slap himself for causing distress to the King. He hurriedly clarified what he had said earlier, "Er… The lady said that the Queen didn't seem like herself… umm… almost as if she was drugged. She said that the men who were with her had to help her climb in."
The moment he heard that, Caspian felt something bubbling inside his chest, something very intense and sour.
Though scared, John explained some more, "That lady also said that she had never seen those men in Silver Keep before. She also said that she had never come across them in the Capital either. She said she worked in a shop in the Capital for a long time."
Isaac, seeing John out of breath, decided to speak for once. "We both went out of the town to see if we could catch up with the carriage. We did find the carriage abandoned not that far away from the town. But Her Majesty and those men were nowhere to be seen. They probably used the carriage just so that they wouldn't raise suspicion among the townspeople.
And since it was already night, we decided to go to the castle to gather backup forces. That's when we met Lord Vincent and then Your Majesty also came here."
By now, Caspian's pale face had turned even paler. And his blood-red eyes had turned even darker red in color. The veins on his forehead and arms were bulging as though they would burst at any moment.
Only one thing came to his mind as he clawed out the dirt from the ground and tightened that dirt in his fists.
'I'm going to find who they are and where they are, even if I have to go to hell in their search, and I am going to kill them in the most painful way possible.'
He looked up at the dark clouds that were trying to mock him by swirling above his head and screamed at the top of his lungs, "I AM GOING TO KILL THEM ALL…"
