Conquering His Cold Heart -
Chapter 476 - 476: The Search
"And I thought we were friends," Caspian snarled in a low yet threatening tone.
He was deeply hurt by the fact that his lifelong friend was treating him like some kind of stranger. Not just a stranger. But an enemy.
From the looks of it, the private guards who were surrounding him at the moment looked like they had a lot of fighting experience, probably on par with the royal guards.
Although Caspian was pretty sure that if a fight was to break out between him and all of them, as long as Vincent didn't intervene, he could kill them all in an instant. He could force his way into the mansion if that's what he needed to do to get some information about his wife's whereabouts.
However, the mere presence of all those guards hurt him deep down. He had never imagined that Vincent would feel the need to have all those guards surround him. He was even more hurt by the fact that he made Vincent feel that way.
Vincent let out a grim chuckle and spoke while treading on eggshells, "Don't take it to your heart, Caspian. I am just being a little cautious."
He looked Caspian in the eyes and asked in a polite tone, "What brought you all the way here? You could have called me to the castle. You didn't need to come here yourself."
Vincent's words made Caspian feel bad all over again. It only confirmed how he wasn't welcome to the mansion. And it also made Caspian wonder if Vincent had something to do with his wife's sudden disappearance.
"Where's Anna?" Caspian came right to the point.
"What?" Vincent obviously looked very confused by that question. "What do you mean by that? She isn't home yet?"
Now Caspian got even more worried because it didn't look like Vincent was hiding his wife. He felt the world around him spinning again. "No," he whispered while trying to grab onto something.
Vincent quickly waved his hand to dismiss all the guards and gave a hand for Caspian to hold. "She should have reached the castle about one and a half hours ago," he informed while leading Caspian inside to the nearby sofa.
"Tell me exactly what happened," Caspian rested both of his elbows on his knees and asked while resting his face on his palms.
"Uh…" Vincent also sat beside Caspian. He gave a worried glance at his friend and said, "Nothing much. We all had a little chat. And she said she wanted to go back to the castle because she was afraid you would get angry if she was gone for too long. So, she left at around 11 AM, I think."
"Afraid, huh…" Caspian grabbed a handful of his blond hair and grunted as he tugged his hair hard. He was mad at himself for scaring everyone around him and hurting everyone with either his words or his actions or both.
"What did you all talk about? Was there anything noteworthy that she said? Perhaps some hint as to where she would go before returning to the castle?" Caspian asked while trying not to sound too harsh.
Vincent couldn't think of anywhere else except the Wintertide Mansion. However, he didn't think that Anastasia would go there.
So, he shook his head and said, "No, she didn't mention anything. She left from here saying she would go to the castle."
Caspian, believing Vincent's words, abruptly got up so that he could look around for his wife.
'Perhaps she is sightseeing somewhere. Maybe she felt cooped up in the castle and needed a breath of fresh air,' he thought to himself while trying to stay positive.
Caspian rushed outside the mansion so that he could take off without wasting any more seconds.
However, Vincent ran behind him while shouting, "Are you sure she isn't already in the castle somewhere?"
"The guards said her carriage never arrived," Caspian shouted as he ascended to the sky and soon disappeared from Vincent's sight.
Vincent ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. If she was not found soon, there was no telling what Caspian would do. 'Maybe I should go visit the Wintertide Mansion. Perhaps she decided to go there and ask for help herself?'
With that thought in mind, Vincent ordered all of his guards to be extra vigilant about the surrounding and took the carriage route to Lady Edith's mansion, in case he came across the carriage on the road.

"To what do I owe this pleasure, Your Majesty?" Bartholomew asked in a nonchalant tone as he leisurely strode towards the King who had forcefully entered his premises.
Forceful would be an understatement because Caspian was standing inside the mansion after injuring a lot of the guards, and even killing some of them in the process.
The vampires were lying outside, all around the ground, groaning and cursing in pain.
It was a bloodbath out there.
Caspian was in no mood to play word games with the sly Lord. He wiped a streak of blood from his chin with the back of his bloody palm and asked in his thunderous voice, "Where are you hiding her?"
Bartholomew maintained that awfully irritating smile on his face as he asked very calmly, "And who might that 'her' be?"
"Don't play dumb!" Caspian spread out all his claws with the intention to attack Bartholomew too.
A group of guards immediately surrounded Bartholomew and stood between him and Caspian. They were ready to give their lives for the safety of their master.
Caspian gave a deathly glare to all of them, forcing them to stand right where they were just by the sheer force of his dangerous aura.
Then he asked Bartholomew once more, "Where are you hiding the Queen? If you don't bring her out within a minute, I swear on my father that I will kill each one of your minions and then torture you till eternity."
The guards who were facing the King felt such immense pressure in the air that they found it impossible to move, not even a single finger.
None of them doubted Caspian's intent to kill because he had just fought around twenty of the elite fighters on his own. Not just that, he had single-handedly managed to defeat them all. Even with the healing kicking in, those who were still alive wouldn't be able to fight for the next hour or more.
This time, Bartholomew showed a subtle sign of fear in his eyes. He didn't want to lose all of his men just because of his ego.
So, he gulped and then said clearly, "I don't know what gave you the idea that I have the Queen here. But I assure you that she isn't in my custody."
"Oh, you don't know what gave me that idea, huh?" Caspian scoffed. An evil and angry smile appeared on his face when he took a step closer to the lying bastard, "Wasn't it you who sent those men to ambush and capture her just a few days ago?"
"It wasn't–"
"No!" Caspian raised his index finger warningly and spoke in his threatening tone, "Don't lie through your teeth because I still have one of your men in my dungeon. And he confirmed that they were sent by you."
Caspian took one more step forward, forcing all of the guards to lift their weapons and claws, and asked again, "Now before it's too late, hand over the Queen to me and I will let you live."
