Conquering His Cold Heart -
Chapter 447 - 447: Crashing
Cillian's heart skipped with joy when Jerome offered him a job in the castle.
It was exactly what he wanted.
'At least this way, I will most likely get a chance to have an audience with the alpha. Even if I don't get the chance to meet him directly, if I can find a way to anonymously inform him about Ruby's current state, I am sure that he will rescue her from the clutches of Regulus.'
If it was just him, Cillian would have somehow managed to get by without finding any flashy job in the castle or seeking help from his new clan members. He had survived alone until now. He could always go back to his old lifestyle.
However, since the matter concerned the pitiable lady whom he admired greatly, he wanted to get as close to Alpha Everard as possible.
'Only an alpha can go against another alpha,' that's what he thought.
And to add to that, he could somehow make guesses that Everard was someone who cared for Ruby. So, it was only obvious that he sought help from Alpha Everard.
Cillian looked at Jerome with teary eyes. The corners of his lips slightly lifted up when he asked in a tone that showed gratitude, "Will you really find a job for me?"
Jerome approached closer and gently patted Cillian's shoulder. "You told me you didn't have any family, right? But the clan itself is a big family. And what's a family if they don't help each other during their time of need?"
Cillian bowed deeply to show his gratitude. "I will forever be grateful towards you, Beta Jerome."
Cillian lifted his head and was about to bid farewell for the night. But then he recalled how the guards at the gate didn't allow him to enter the castle. 'If I leave just like that, how am I going to contact the Beta again?'
Thinking that, he asked Jerome, "When shall I come back to see you?"
"Where are you staying currently?" Jerome asked, sure that the boy just lived on the streets.
Cillian had spent yesterday night aimlessly wandering around the capital. Before that, he was staying at the Atkinson Mansion. And even before that, Jerome was right. He was living on the streets, wandering from one street to another, wherever he found an opportunity to earn his food.
Cillian hung his head and replied in a low voice, "Here and there." He then cleared his throat and suggested, "I can wait in front of the castle gate until you obtain permission from His Majesty. If the castle guards don't chase me away, it will be easier for you to find a homeless person like me."
'Just as I thought,' Jerome thought to himself as he looked at Cillian with pitiful eyes.
He then thought for a while and took a bold decision, "Actually, why don't we go inside right now? Even if the King doesn't have any job for you, I can arrange something directly under my command. And don't worry about the lodging and fooding. I will especially take care of that since you… don't have a place to go back to."
Cillian kept on looking at Jerome with his jaw wide open. 'Is a man of his status really willing to take responsibility for a kid he just met yesterday?'
He smiled gratefully at Jerome. He wondered if the matter regarding Ruby would have been taken care of if he had just told everything to Jerome without any hesitation. After all, he seemed like a very kind man. He wouldn't possibly have any negative feelings towards Ruby.
Still, the rescue of Ruby was something he didn't dare to leave to chance.
He looked at Jerome and answered earnestly and politely, "If it doesn't cause you any trouble with the King then I would gladly follow you right now."
"Why would I be in any trouble? I am just trying to help someone in need." Jerome quickly turned around and began walking in the same direction that he came from. "Walk along, Cillian."
Jerome had a subtle smile on his lips as he headed back to the castle. Of course, he wanted to help the kid as soon as possible.
However, the reason why he was so eager to go back to the castle was because he was afraid of Everard causing some kind of trouble tonight. He was afraid that Everard might have already done so by now.
'Good thing I met Cillian. I got an excuse to return to the castle again,' he thought to himself as he moved his feet faster and faster.
Cillian was trying his best to catch up with Jerome but he was always a few steps behind. He would look at the Beta with appreciative eyes every once in a while.
And he couldn't help but think, 'I never imagined he would be this eager to help me. If I knew, I would have asked to meet Beta Jerome at the gate instead of the King. Maybe it would have saved me from standing in front of the gate for the whole day.'
Only if he knew that Jerome also had some ulterior motive at the moment.
In no time, the two of them had already crossed the gate and they were heading towards the main entrance of the castle.
As they walked, Jerome would look behind every once in a while and mumble how he would arrange a room, clothes, and everything for Cillian.
Cillian heaved a deep sigh and thought back to his time in the Atkinson mansion. In terms of such material things, he couldn't deny that the Atkinsons treated him badly. However, after the passing of his teacher, he never really felt any kind of connection with the people there, except for Ruby.
It was Ruby's kindness that made his stay at Atkinson mansion bearable. Else, he always felt like an outsider, especially after Regulus and his men arrived. No matter what he did to feel included, they always saw him as a stranger.
He wondered, 'Has anyone even noticed that I have disappeared?'
Then suddenly, he felt a strange sensation rushing through his heart. 'What if they know that I am now in Crestfire clan? They won't send someone to eliminate me, right?'
He slapped himself on his forehead and shook his head. 'Why would they need to eliminate me? It's not like I know all of their secrets.' He suddenly clenched his jaw and furrowed. 'But they know that I know about Ruby…'
Cillian instinctively looked up at the moon and prayed, 'Dear Goddess, help me make things right. Please don't let them come after me. If you can, make them forget that I even existed.'
However, it was obviously not possible to wipe everyone's memory like that.
After all, the Moon Goddess never directly meddled in the affairs of her dear creatures.
Suddenly, some commotion pulled Cillian's attention to the world outside of his mind. 'What's going on?' he wondered while looking in the direction from where the noises were coming.
"Ugh! I knew he would do this!" Jerome suddenly growled and ran in the same direction.
Cillian stopped and awkwardly followed Jerome with his eyes, confused about what he was supposed to do.
"Hey, who is that? Have you ever seen that kid around?"
Cillian's heart skipped a beat when he heard that. What if he was caught and beaten by the guards before he could even explain that he was invited by the Beta?
'Uhhh… I better run after the Beta…'
Without even sparing a glance at the guards behind him, he ran at his top speed and went in the same direction as Jerome.
Suddenly, he heard Jerome shouting from somewhere, "Cillian! Stop that man!"
"Man? What ma–" Before he could finish his mumbling, he saw a dark figure approaching him at a speed so great that he thought he would be crushed if he stood in the way.
"Move!"
Cillian heard a thunderous growl that scared him to the core. His eyes instantly widened when he realized that the dark figure was none other than the Alpha.
He wanted to run away as he was standing on the direct line of the Alpha and there was a possibility of crashing. However, as if his body and mind had suddenly lost their connection with each other, he was frozen in place.
*Thump* *Crash*
Before Cillian could move an inch, he had already crashed with the Alpha and now both of them were lying on the lawn which they had damaged just now.
