Conquering His Cold Heart -
Chapter 441 - 441: Irreparable Damage
Anastasia felt her heart sinking when she heard that malevolent words from Caspian. She had to grab onto the frame of the bathroom door because her knees suddenly went weak.
Tears began to stream down her eyes like a waterfall when she dared to ask the man who had already gone astray, "How can you even say that?" She choked on her words when she further asked, "Do you now hate me so much that you wish to kill me?"
Caspian scoffed. His dark-red eyes glinted with anger when he dug his claws into the near-dead man's shoulder whose upper body was resting sideways on the bathtub, in front of Caspian.
And as the blood dripped down into the ice-cold water in the tub, Caspian gave a menacing glare to Anastasia and asked spitefully, "Why do you look so surprised? Wasn't killing you always a clause of our bet? Or did you already forget about it?"
Anastasia felt goosebumps running down her whole body when he reminded her of their bet.
Of course, she remembered it.
Thus, she was now even more terrified thinking that something that she wished would happen in the fit of her stupidity, about some month ago, was actually happening.
Although she had once thought that it would be easier for Caspian to deal with the grief of her loss if he hated her, the pile of dead bodies before her feet proved otherwise.
Regardless of whether he hated her or not, he WAS going to wander off the right path.
She tried to swallow the lump that she was feeling in her throat. And although she feared to know the answer, she asked in a quivering whisper, "So… you've fallen out of love… just like that, huh?"
Caspian's hands suddenly slipped when he heard that question from Anastasia. The splashing sound filled the unpleasant air in the room.
A sarcastic smile tugged at his lips when he asked back, "Do you think it's that easy for me to fall out of love with you?" He looked down at the pile of bodies and said without biting the words, "If it was that easy then you would be the first in that pile, Anna."
Anastasia's lips trembled as she tried to hold in her emotions from breaking the dam of her heart and flooding out.
She slightly tilted her head and looked at her husband with eyes that asked for forgiveness.
Then she began to mumble, "Caspian, I know I should not have built our relationship on the foundation of lies. I know now that I was so wrong for doing that."
She paused for a split second to think if what she was about to say would provoke Caspian even further.
She concluded it would.
However, since she had already dared to speak to the man who was equivalent to the devil at the moment, she didn't want to back out now.
Thus, she continued before Caspian could interrupt her, "But at that time, I didn't feel the need to come clean about my illness to you because I didn't expect us to be this close. I was even prepared to be your meal! I had never imagined that there would come a day when we would fall for each other so deeply. And by the time we had fallen for each other, I couldn't–"
"I don't know about you but I did fall deeply, Anna," Caspian interrupted. He sounded devastated to the core when he said that, as though it was just him who was in a one-sided relationship until now.
He was feeling so betrayed by the concealment of the truth that he was now questioning the legitimacy of their whole relationship.
He was questioning if what Anastasia showed him were her true feelings or if they were just a façade that she put on display to survive in the land of predators.
"Caspian, I–" Anastasia was about to refute the underlying accusation that Caspian had posed.
However, she got startled to her core when Caspian suddenly sprung up from the tub and stood before her in the blink of an eye.
A cold shiver ran down her spine when the repulsive metallic smell of blood hit her nose.
Caspian was glaring down at Anastasia, one of his feet stepping on the pile of bodies, and bloody water running down his naked frame.
He slowly leaned to meet Anastasia's petrified gaze. And he slowly and painfully spat out the words of contempt, "You've done irreparable damage to my heart and my soul by pretending to love me, Anastasia Vairina."
"I was NOT preten–"
"Shhhh…" Caspian shushed Anastasia by sloppily placing his fingers laced with fresh human blood over her lips.
Anastasia wanted to gag and remove his hand from her mouth. But she tightly shut her eyes and held her breath instead of fighting back.
She didn't want to risk provoking the devil that was lurking under her husband's skin.
In the next second, she felt a wave of cold breath hitting her ear and her neck. She feared that Caspian had finally completely snapped and was about to end her misery.
Thankfully, she heard his cold whisper instead of feeling his sharp fangs on her neck.
"I meant it when I said that I am never going to forgive you for coming into my life and making me love you, knowing that it would only last for a brief moment in my awfully long life. Why did you do it?"
Caspian's red eyes which were hollow until a while ago finally glistened with tears. "Why did you come into my life and show me how beautiful life can be when you have someone to share it with?"
Countless emotions started to flicker in those pair of blood-red eyes, emotions like fear, hatred, longing, and anger.
"Why did you make me dream about us having a wonderful future together when you knew you had no future at all? Why did you make me dependent on you for happiness when you were going to shatter my heart like this? Why did you…"
His voice suddenly broke before he could ask any more questions. He pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes so that he wouldn't break down like a pathetic child.
