Chapter 48: Problem [1]

Most people could never tell of how their life went to hell.

For some it could be a single moment that turned their life upside down.

For the majority, however, it never happened.

It was as simple as that.

For Celestine, her life went to hell as soon as Arthur changed. It wasn’t a normal change, it was like he had changed into a completely different person.

Arthur had in fact.

He started smoking, a habit the previous Arthur promised to never indulge in.

He also took a liking to women.

Mannerisms that weren’t his.

Just a week after the woman he loved died, he was heartbroken then, only for him to wake up one day and act like everything was alright.

"Brother, are you alright?"

"Just leave me alone."

He wasn’t like this.

Even when he was undergoing something serious, he made sure to try to make it seem like it wasn’t as important as it seemed.

But then, he had changed.

He sounded annoyed, not angry.

Arthur’s change wasn’t gradual, it was instantaneous.

That was because it wasn’t him.

"Get lost."

Definitely not instantaneous.

He became rude, treating both her and everyone in the estate like they were unwanted retarded guests.

She didn’t know what to do.

Then, one day, Adrian told her that Arthur was possessed.

There was no reason not to believe that.

How did he know, though, Adrian never told.

Thus, they began looking for ways to kill the spirit possessing him, without killing him of course.

There was one "exorcist" Arthur knew, though, when they had tried to contact him, they were told he did not exist.

But even then, they tried.

It was only after a few years, three long years of dealing with an imposter that didn’t even bother acting like her brother.

He hated her.

And she hated him.

Adrian however, bore a level of resentment to the spirit that was on par if not greater than her own.

He was her father figure, and she assumed that something in him didn’t sit well at the thought of Arthur corrupting her. He also liked Arthur.

Maybe that was why, when three years later, on the day that they had lost all hope in him and decided to end him, only for him to reveal that he was back....

Maybe that was why even Adrian was moved to tears.

At that moment, she truly knew it was him, and he wasn’t forcing himself.

Everything felt so natural.

Even his head pat felt good, it made her feel like she was 14 years old again.

But, then why?

Why was it that just after he came back, she was taken from him?

It wasn’t fair.

"...."

The gag in her mouth made it hard to scream, so she had to resort to muffled groans.

The man that had taken her was a professor, a man that had only begun teaching a year ago. From the way he talked, he seemed to have issues with Arthur, because they had met some time ago.

She was still able to see, her kidnapper only bothered with covering her mouth and restraining her so she couldn’t move.

’Art....’

She could only think.

Right now, she was too powerless to save herself.

And that was her biggest gripe.

....

The time was night. The long awaited time.

Arthur was already ready.

He was wearing a simple black hoodie and matching pants, so it would be easier to melt into the darkness, and also hide his hair.

With his golden hair, it would be more easier to point him out in the darkness, hence his color choice.

"Fuck me."

Arthur cursed as he stared at his reflection.

In the mirror he saw a striking young man with golden hair, dazzling blue eyes and a handsome face.

But....

The image he saw slowly turned into an average boy with black hair, brown eyes, and exceptionally young.

Somehow.

He didn’t even know how himself.

"Game this, game that."

He murmured.

That was the face of Johnny Carter.

For how he could see it in himself, he didn’t know. It hadn’t happened before, only to appear.

"Game."

He said.

Arthur had began to take this world as a game.

The ’game’.

Most of them weren’t even considered as people, subconsciously he had forgotten that he was the one that had been possessed, not the one that had entered the body.

Though, he remembered that he was the one that participated in the war. Arthur Vaelthorne.

It was like his brain was taking bits and pieces of his life, the one it found more suitable to his thoughts.

Slowly, he began to think of this world as a game. It was almost as if he was embodying the view of Johnny Carter.

This world being just a ’game’, not the world he had lived in.

It was now that he realized that part of the reason he was pissed off by her disappearing wasn’t just because they had grown up together, were close and were family.

’It would disrupt the game’s narrative.’

And lead it to a failure.

The boy had done countless trials and made many errors, the result was always the same.

He couldn’t get past the game’s numerous bad endings.

With its dynamic storyline, one could only guess the number of endings.

Each decision could change the path for the better or worse.

Arthur had unknowingly taken on the gamer’s perspective. He was trying to use this life to reach the good ending.

Using his connection with the main characters to try to reach the good ending.

"No."

He didn’t want that.

In fact, he only realized that when he stared at his reflection. It had slowly changed to Johnny Carter’s, it seemed as if his eyes were playing tricks on him.

But then again, it was true.

He couldn’t deny that.

Seeing his own sister as just an object.

"She’s your sister, not a main character."

Celestine was his sister.

Not a main character.

As he quietly left the estate, Arthur made sure to leave the notion in his mind.

Not only was it right, but he would also never
