Chapter 47: Hybrid Spells [3]

....

"Today, we’ll be doing another ten laps around the field."

They had been doing that since he set up the curriculum, there was some improvement from doing it daily, but even then the results hadn’t been as significant as he had hoped.

"But, there will be a twist, for this exercise you’ll be running in a fog of thin ’mist’."

As soon as he said that, he stretched his hand outward.

"—Steam Rise."

He said.

Steam streamed out of his hand in the direction of the field, in a moment, the entire field was filled in it.

"In this thin ’mist’, you need to run 10 laps. Staying too long in the mist might burn your skin, so I advice that you all should be quick in this endeavor."

He advised.

It was a bluff, but a good one nevertheless.

It was only if he added a much greater amount of heat element, that which he did not do.

Yet, even though he lied, it would only encourage the students to move faster, and they would never know.

That was the best part of it.

"You have until the end of this class, or until you start burning to complete it."

He said.

At his words, the students took off.

’Of course, they’ll only dart at full speed.’

No one, and he meant no one, tried jogging.

’They’re smart.’

The purpose of this test was to see how much their stamina had improved from last week.

"...."

After the fifth lap, they kept running, going even faster at that.

"They don’t want to die."

He murmured.

This plan was a bust.

They began slowing down at the sixth lap, but even then, they were still fast.

"Ninth lap, now."

People were still running, everyone was.

"Tenth."

Roselyn was first, she ran straight out of the steam and fell down.

Her uniform clung tightly to her chest, courtesy to the sweat.

"30 minutes left."

He smirked a little.

"Roselyn, tell the others that class is dismissed."

He told her.

Arthur turned on his heels and left the field.

Quickly after, Ezra arrived.

"Whe— Where’s the prof?"

He asked in between rough, ragged breaths.

Roselyn didn’t reply him, she sat on the ground and stared back at him.

"Per— erv."

She finally said before her back fell onto the grass.

Ezra didn’t reply as he fell on his back as well.

....

"Any questions, anyone?"

Arthur asked.

On the board there were complex symbols.

No one asked questions, prompting Arthur to turn back.

"Class dismissed."

His last class of the day, Mana Engineering, had ended.

The students piled out of the classroom, and as usual, the last to leave was the sleepy-eyed Ezra, his now most prominent feature was his dark spots.

’Doesn’t fit someone as handsome as him.’

Arthur thought.

Someone with his kind of look would obviously be a playboy, instead, this body was more a sleeper.

Yet, somehow, even though he was a sleeper, he somehow managed to be tired today.

He looked tired, he seemed tired, he was tired.

Arthur had even asked him to stand up again after noticing the boy snoozed off in his class.

’Who am I to judge anyway?’

He wasn’t one to talk about such things.

Someone like him could at least become a model, with his looks it wouldn’t be too hard.

But he chose not to.

He stood up and left the classroom as all the students were done, shutting the door behind him.

His steps were brisk as he navigated through the hallway, only nodding at the occasional greeting from a student.

Arthur bumped into someone.

"My apologizes."

He said as he extended his hand at her.

She glared at him, rejecting his hand as she stood up, sorting the paper that had fallen.

’I forgot about her.’

He thought as he watched.

His eyes glanced around the hall, a few students had stopped to watch.

"Move along."

He commanded, his voice sharp.

’She wasn’t really important, even though she could potentially lead to me being expelled from the Academy, she hasn’t done anything about it.’

As a war veteran, Arthur was well-aware that if an enemy bid their time, they would strike hard.

However, he had been too occupied with other things to pay attention to her, someone who existed yet did not make any attempt at it.

Perhaps she had already tried it before, but had failed.

Either way, Arthur had forgotten about her.

She hmped as she stood up straight.

Then proceeded to walk away.

’Even if she doesn’t do anything to guarantee my expulsion, she could still be a hindrance in the long run.’

Arthur thought, stroking his chin slightly as he resumed his walk, although at a much slower pace.

’Should I deal with her?’

In some way.

Keeping enemies was bad.

Regardless of his strength, the more enemies he kept alive, the more would try to get revenge.

Just one Ethan Ross was enough for him.

If he had eighty people who wanted to kill him, but knowing they could not they chose his sister, he would end their bloodline right on the spot.

’If I do decide to go about it, what approach should I take?’

He wondered as he opened the door of his office.

’I can’t be too rash about this? Would she really forgive me, after all, I killed her sister."

Even if it wasn’t technically him, the blame still happened to fall on him due to the fact that it was his body that had been used to commit the crime.

At that moment, he remembered the look on Ethan Ross’ face when he spoke about her.

Pure, unadulterated hatred.

"I have no idea."

He slumped his head on the desk as he sighed.

"I may have to give up on this."

It was almost on cue.
