Chapter 41: Ethan Ross [2]
Chapter 41: Ethan Ross [2]
Arthur arrived at the location in under 10 minutes.
Using his forbidden magic, which he had applied to his daggers, where in if he threw it he would appear where it landed.
Traveling over long distances were quicker that way and less-energy consuming.
The location he had been given was unsurprisingly, a warehouse.
The right kind of place for shady deals to take place.
He didn’t bother knocking as it was left open, opting to going inside immediately instead.
As soon as he entered, he was greeted by ’It’.
The dark humans. The byproduct of a spell that gave off a lot of mana, and were able to use spells as well.
This time, he didn’t attack it though.
Arthur couldn’t tell if it was keeping a neutral expression, or it being ’It’ had no face, he just couldn’t tell, but its face was practically a blank slate.
Finally, he saw the man.
Ethan Ross.
He was seated on a chair, staring at him as he entered.
Arthur wanted nothing more than to kill him immediately, but for now, he practiced self-restraint.
"Vaelthorne."
The man was glaring at him.
His eyes alone gave off malice.
"Take a seat."
The man gave a small smile.
But the smile from the man, Ethan Ross, didn’t seem kind in the slightest.
He looked like he wanted to murder Arthur, there and now.
Arthur went over to the chair and sat down cautiously.
He just wanted to kill this man, take his sister and leave.
But he couldn’t afford to be too careless in the way he did it, he knew next to nothing except some observations about the ’It’s’ that wandered around, guarding them, if they didn’t fade to nothing when this man was killed, there was a good chance that they would immediately kill his sister.
He didn’t want that.
So he waited some more.
"Vaelthorne, if you want your sister, you’ll need to do two things for me."
Ethan began.
Arthur kept quiet, silently staring as the man continued.
"One of them is access to the route in your family’s name."
’So he wants to escape the empire?’
Arthur wouldn’t let him.
He was going to make sure Ethan died in this very place.
"And two, I want you to kill yourself."
"I want you to stab yourself with the very same dagger you threw at me."
Arthur kept his expression even as Ethan talked about killing himself.
"If I kill myself, there is no guarantee that you would actually return your side of the deal."
He answered expressionlessly.
"I promise you that I will not kill her, unlike you, I actually keep my word."
Ethan replied.
"I don’t believe it, words are just words, in the end it’s your actions that decide if you’re trustworthy enough."
Arthur was only trying to stall.
Killing himself was not an option. He had promised too many people that he would live on with their memory, he simply couldn’t.
And, with the draconic bloodline, his life had already been shortened.
’Thankfully, I still have the element of surprise.’
This man didn’t know who he truly was.
He didn’t know the very person he was talking to was the Golden Blur, the Versatile Mage. He thought Arthur was just a strong noble, one who had some power, but ultimately it wouldn’t be enough.
He was going to capitalize on that.
’And this talk was entirely useless.’
He had come here for Celestine, now he wasn’t even sure she was in this place.
"What makes you think you have the choose?!"
Ethan Ross’ frowned deeply.
"Vaelthorne, you don’t seem to understand the situation you’re in. What makes you think you have the right to refuse the terms I gave you?! If you don’t want to give up your life, you’re indirectly giving up your sister’s life!"
"Say that again."
Cold blue eyes stabbed into him, making the man shudder intensely under his gaze.
He remained quiet.
’So she’s in this building, and she only has a single of ’It’ guarding her.’
That was a relief.
Now he just needed to buy more time.
"I’ll give you some time to think on it, but first, I want to ask you a question."
"....Okay."
At that moment, Ethan’s mood shifted.
"Why did you do that to her?"
His words dripped with malice.
"Who is that? I’m not sure I know who you’re talking about."
Arthur would have flashed a small grin with it, but he chose not to.
Ethan’s expression became darker.
"Vivienne Ross.... Why did you do that to my daughter?"
He asked again.
"I don’t recall ever meeting such a person."
Arthur replied.
"Maybe you should tell me some things about here, so I’ll remember."
He suggested.
His words only worsened the man’s mood, then, he sighed, letting out everything he was holding in.
"You don’t remember her?"
He asked.
"Not at all."
The man let out another sigh.
Somehow both seemed to be filled with his anger.
"....Vivienne was my daughter, and she was enrolled in Lavender Academy as well. You’re the one that made her fall for you, she became your unofficial assistant throughout her first year and became your official one throughout her second."
Ethan words dripped with malice, as if he wanted to personally kill Arthur himself.
"I really don’t remember."
At this point, Arthur could have pretended to remember, it was not like he would remember since it was the spirit’s doing.
But still, the look on this man’s face. It was very much like his own when he took Celestine, but much worse, and he liked it.
"What do you mean you don’t remember?"
His voice cracked slightly and he faced the ground, tears slipped down his cheeks.
"You’re the reason her life is ruined, you mentally broke her! You’re the reason my family is ruined! You’re the ruined my life is ruined! For what?!"
He stood up, the chair he sat down on previously falling onto the ground.
"....I don’t know."
"Of course you wouldn’t even remember it, you jackass! You wouldn’t remember the girl you discarded just because she was ’no longer tight’ would you?!"
