Chronicles Of The Academy's Strongest Professor -
Chapter 28: Spells [2]
Chapter 28: Spells [2]
....
So far, Ezra’s plan was going horribly.
He couldn’t tell if it was just the strict rules of the place or because he was he was ranked highest in the mage section, but, nobody had bullied him.
No one had even tried to.
It was like they saw him as an equal....
And he was disgusted by it.
No one seemed to hate that he was a commoner, the only time they actually avoided him was when he had gone to the academy covered in blood on the first day.
"Damn it."
He was heading for his first class today.
His class in the magic department was first, followed by the one in the assassin department.
Having the same man for the same classes two times a week was exhausting for him.
He entered the classroom, seeing that everyone had already arrived.
Everyone except the professor.
He went to his seat at the back, dropped his bag and slumped on his desk.
Ezra quickly fell asleep.
"Hey, man."
The other student, the one that he had sat down with, saw him.
Ezra tried to ignore him, instead focusing on the energy he could sense in the air.
Yesterday, he had gone back to his seat in the cafeteria because he had noticed that the energy had gathered there.
He had tried to grab it, only to fail.
Luckily he had an excuse. He learned to always have one due to the number of times he had done it in his life.
He had failed all those times.
But even then, he couldn’t deny that the energy was fascinating.
Not only that, but it resonated deeply with him. His body couldn’t take it as it was already with mana, but it acted as a sixth sense whenever he turned off one of his senses.
Suddenly, he raised his head.
"Are you okay?"
The voice came almost instantly and Ezra quickly turned his head in the direction.
"You were watching me."
"No."
"I wasn’t asking, I know."
Ezra replied in a deadpan voice.
There was enough space so they wouldn’t feel each other’s slight movement.
That, and-
He had "felt" when the boy’s gaze was on him with his eyes closed.
"Wait."
He finally gave the boy a proper look.
He hadn’t really seen him considering that the first time they spoke they were in the middle of a test, not only that but they were called out as well.
But, the boy had good looks.
’He looks punchable.’
He thought.
"What?"
"Nothing, forget I ever said anything."
He was handsome.
And the only thing worse than a handsome man was handsome nobleman.
When he was younger the girls always took his side, the boys however bullied him on a daily basis, even more than others just because he was good-looking.
So he despised nobles, only hating handsome nobles more because they had good looks but didn’t get the same treatment than him.
In contrast, while he was being treated like dirt, they were treated like the very world revolved around them.
He hated nobles because of that.
"Anyway...." The boy said before pinching the bridge of his nose. "Are you planning to join a team?"
He was trying to start up a conversation before their professor came.
"What team? Clubs?"
"No, like the ones that you need to join before being eligible for taking missions."
He explained.
Ezra tapped the desk thoughtfully with his finger.
’I think I’ve heard this before....’
He could recall that he had heard something similar, but he just couldn’t remember where and the exact details.
"I don’t think so."
He finally replied.
"Why? I thought that someone with your talent would do it, after all, the pay for the missions is quite good."
Ezra suddenly snapped his fingers.
"Oh, those ones."
"Yes?"
"Of course, I’m planning to join a team."
"What? But before now you said you didn’t think so."
Ezra shook his head.
"Forget about what I said before, we live in the present, don’t we?"
The last time Ezra had heard about the missions when he had researched about the Lavender Academy, the institution which he had been offered a scholarship at.
Ideally, students could use what they learned to complete the missions.
And for every mission you got paid.
So Ezra had already made plans to either form a team or join one as soon as it was possible.
"Either way, if you form a team just make me a member."
He said.
"I’m not planning on forming one, joining one would be much better since I wouldn’t have to worry about equipment and such, being a member would be so much better."
"Figured as much, you don’t seem like the type to take anything seriously, anything except sleep that is."
The boy merely shrugged.
"Then why did you try?"
"I just wanted to see if it would work, it didn’t hurt to try either way."
"Oh...."
There was an awkward silence between them.
"....The name’s Ezra by the way."
"Lucas."
He nodded without much thought and turned away, slouching on his desk again.
’Thankfully he reminded me.’
Ezra had forgotten about them.
He had a reason why he was trying to get that money, and it wasn’t just for the money.
It was because of this Academy.
While he was given a scholarship, it didn’t cover for the expenses.
Textbooks, and all.
Just to make sure he had everything, he had to enlist the help of a loan shark. It had taken a lot to get the money.
With the money he got he was able to afford everything.
’I’ll have to get the money....’
His thought process was interrupted as the door swung open.
And the professor, Arthur Vaelthorne, arrived just one minute before it could be called late.
"Good morning, class, today we’ll be working on something more practical."
He quickly greeted and got onto the topic.
"Today, we’ll be working on spells."
His words were followed by his warm smile.
But for Ezra, that smile just felt....
Wrong.
