Chapter 160: 156 Hay-like monthly ticket 720 added Chapters

In the evening, Li Xianglu changed into a silk pullover nightgown after her bath and lay on the bed, watching the old lady at the vanity still applying makeup. She was already applying it before she bathed, why hasn’t she finished after half an hour?

Su Yan, thinking the girl was bored, reassured her: "If you’re bored, you can watch some TV."

Li Xianglu shook her head and nestled into the soft goose down pillows, then bounced on the mattress with her butt, rolled over, and then rolled back.

Su Yan, who had started caring for her calves and feet, saw the girl rolling on the bed and blinked, asking, "What are you doing?"

Li Xianglu rolled a couple of times, felt very comfortable, and then climbed up saying, "Testing the bed. I’m the Pea Princess; I can feel a tiny pea under nine layers of mattresses."

Su Yan, slightly amused, said: "Then you’re really incredible!"

Li Xianglu combed her hair back, leaned against the bed’s headrest and lazily asked, "Why did you ask me to sleep with you? I have really bad sleeping habits."

Su Yan, having finished treating her feet, washed her hands and came out to apply lotion to her hands. Seeing the person starting to roll again, she said impatiently, "Alright, you wanted to know some things, didn’t you? How can we talk if we don’t sleep together?"

Upon hearing this, Li Xianglu quickly sat up, sorted out her hair, which was as messy as a bird’s nest, and said, "Really, are you really going to talk to me, Grandma Su!"

Su Yan looked at the ceiling, rolled her eyes, and after a while said, "Can’t you just call me Su Yan, or Aunt Su?"

Li Xianglu stubbornly pouted, a defiant expression on her face: "No way, that would make you a generation younger than Grandpa. Would my grandpa have to call you his grandniece then?"

Su Yan stared with wide eyes, incredulous, hardly able to imagine Ah Ren calling her his grandniece.

Su Yan tidied up and picked up a small table from nearby, one meant for use in bed, made of mahogany with each leg wrapped in cloth. After setting it up, Su Yan placed an ashtray, a pack of cigarettes, and a box of matches on it.

Su Yan got onto the bed, took a cigarette, and Li Xianglu eagerly lit it for her. Su Yan glanced mildly and took a couple of drags, and soon the bed was enveloped in smoke.

Li Xianglu, somewhat fascinated, watched Su Yan smoke; this woman was really amazing, still so stylish smoking at over sixty.

After smoking half the cigarette, Su Yan exhaled satisfied, leaned on the headboard, and glanced at the girl with deer-like eyes, smiling, "Does Ah Ren still smoke?"

Li Xianglu shook her head and said, "He doesn’t smoke. Grandpa only drinks a bit occasionally, no smoking."

Su Yan chuckled with a nostalgic smile: "I used to light cigarettes for him, even in fancy ways." She laughed with a snort, as if recalling something, "Once, I even burned his hair, haha."

At this, Su Yan laughed joyously, but Li Xianglu heard an underlying tone of loneliness and emptiness.

Su Yan turned her head, saw the girl’s complex look, and raised an eyebrow, "What are you looking at? Anything you want to know?"

Li Xianglu sat up and took the almost finished cigarette from Su Yan’s hand and stubbed it out, then drew out another and handed it over, "In the future, when you smoke, don’t smoke too close to the filter; there are too many toxins there."

Su Yan took it, said a tad annoyed, "What now, you’re encouraging me to smoke?"

Li Xianglu, more skillful with her second lighting, extinguished the match and slowly said, "If smoking helps you relax, it might not be too bad, after all."

Su Yan chuckled, watching Li Xianglu’s smile grow more genuine, "You girl, no wonder Ah Ren is so fond of you!"

Li Xianglu couldn’t deny it, she was loved by everyone she met, and flowers bloomed at her presence, it was inevitable.

Su Yan spoke indifferently, "The situation with your grandfather was simple. We were both on a mission; he was serving his organization, and I was serving mine. We just happened to be striving for the same thing and then we met."

Li Xianglu was stunned for a moment, curiously asking, "So, who ended up accomplishing that task?"

Su Yan rolled her eyes, "If your grandfather had succeeded, do you think he would still be in his current situation?"

Indeed, as Qin Xi had mentioned, given the status of her grandfather at that time, he shouldn’t have been banished to a place like Li Family Village, always having to report everything. Even moving to the capital required prior notice, and he was often called to help out. She didn’t know whether her grandfather actually liked this profession, but at his age, he should have been enjoying his later years. Yet, there was no trace of him in history, she couldn’t imagine how he coped with that internally.

Thinking of this, Li Xianglu’s eyes reddened slightly. Su Yan, not expecting such sensitivity from this girl, pulled out a tissue somewhat irritably and said, "What’s there to cry about? Stop crying. You even say you’re similar to me? Where’s the similarity? I hardly ever shed tears!"

Li Xianglu wiped her eyes, but the tears betrayed her, falling in a stream.

Caught off guard by this scene, Su Yan quickly passed over the box of tissues.

Li Xianglu used several tissues before she could control her tears, her voice soft and slightly angry, "I feel indignant for Grandpa, being thrown into that mountain ravine for all these years, having to report even when stepping out!"

Upon hearing this, Su Yan laughed but felt a softness inside. She moved closer and touched Li Xianglu’s somewhat straw-like dry hair with disdain, and yet her voice was tenderly comforting, "Why do you think it’s so bad for your grandfather?"

Li Xianglu looked up, her eyes moist and pitiful, "But Grandpa must feel wronged, too."

Su Yan sighed, "Actually, I didn’t succeed in that task either. Nobody got what they wanted. But I ended up in your grandfather’s hands alone. The situation was unfavorable, and many people started leaving."

Li Xianglu widened her eyes, "Grandpa saved you?"

Su Yan nodded, "Yes, your grandpa saved me, and my son as well."

Li Xianglu paused, "That boy isn’t Grandpa’s son?"

Su Yan irritably said, "No, who told you Ah Qi is your grandfather’s son?"

Li Xianglu pouted, "But Grandpa never said he wasn’t."

Okay, Ah Ren purposely misled this girl. Su Yan continued, "Ah Qi is my son, not biologically though. He’s my sister’s child. Both my sister and her husband perished, and I’ve raised Ah Qi since he was little."

Li Xianglu realized, "So, where is he now?"

Su Yan sighed, "Now he lives in the United States, California, with his boyfriend."

Boyfriend? Isn’t Ah Qi a boy?

Seeing the girl’s initial slight confusion about Ah Qi’s sexual orientation quickly turning into understanding, Su Yan felt a bit of a headache, couldn’t help saying, "Shouldn’t you consider shaving your head and let it grow fresh? It feels like grass."

Li Xianglu looked furious!
