Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer
Chapter 92: Trial And Deception (3)

Chapter 92: Trial And Deception (3)

Before Adrian knew it, it was his turn to be evaluated. Two men approached him, gripping his hands tightly as they pulled him towards the man seated in the chair. With rough hands, they forced Adrian to kneel before him, though it took quite an effort to do so.

It was a little stunt Adrian intentionally pulled, and sure enough, it didn’t go unnoticed by the evaluation officer, or Shoka, as the Tulkas called him. Shoka, who had been judging the rest from the information slip he was given about them, threw away Adrian’s information before gazing into his eyes.

"Got some fight left in ya, huh?" Shoka asked Adrian in a weird accent. "I’m thinkin’ of tossin’ you back in the ring. See if you fare any better this time. What d’ya reckon?"

"Why? Is your wife waiting there for me?" Adrian retorted, spitting a mouthful of blood at Shoka’s feet. "Now that I look at you, you do seem familiar. Don’t tell me that Ograthian was your son or some shit?"

The Tulkas there stood in shock, staring at one another. It wasn’t the first time someone had commented on Shoka’s ogre-like appearance. They had witnessed this scenario play out many times before, and it always ended badly for the one standing against him.

They expected this time to be no different. But then, Shoka started laughing like a crazy person, throwing everyone off guard. Then, out of nowhere, he kicked Adrian in the chest before grabbing him by his hair and staring into his soul.

"New guy thinks he’s funneh, huh?" Shoka snarled as the others backed away. No one wanted the newcomer’s blood spilling on them.

"The only things funny are your face and that bad breath, gosh!" Adrian squinted his nose before smiling. "I thought you looked like an ogre, but damn, you smell even worse than they do."

Everyone could see smoke coming out of Shoka’s ears. If he didn’t have plans of killing the slave before, he certainly did now, and that’s precisely what Adrian wanted him to do and lose his cool.

After all, it was simpler to manipulate a troubled mind than a peaceful one. Adrian knew this well and had planned to utilise it to the full extent. [Illusionary Eyes] took hold of Shoka’s mind, and Adrian gained control over him, all without raising any suspicion.

But in the eyes of the others, Shoka simply gave up and returned to his set, fiddling with the papers he was given until he found Adrian’s and marked it before announcing Adrian’s service centre.

"Ya got some attitude, so let’s fix that," Shoka announced. "Send him to farm slimes for the rest of his miserable life!"

"...are you sure? We could use someone like him in beast taming-" Shoka’s subordinate suggested, but he quickly backed away when Shoka stared him down.

"What are you waiting for!?" Shoka then yelled at the workers. "Take the bastard away before I make one of you his partner!"

Since no one wanted to mess with an angry Shoka, they immediately grabbed Adrian before dragging him away.

Soon, Adrian found himself standing in front of a massive wooden building reinforced with stones. The building itself was a circular structure divided into over thirty smaller sectors.

Each sector could store up to ten Tiaks, horse-like creatures he saw before or twelve Direwolves and yet have enough space for the creatures to move around and relax freely.

However, the tribe had made it a point to keep the Tiaks and Direwolves in different sectors within the enclosure. Although both species were carnivorous and did not prey on each other in their natural habitat, they could harm each other without much effort when kept under one roof.

Half of these sectors acted as animal breeding grounds and housed female monsters. At the same time, the other half of the sectors were reserved for the males, who were regularly trained for various purposes such as battle, transportation of men and resources, etc.

In the middle of the enclosure, a big pool had been constructed. The monsters had restricted access to the pool, and they couldn’t jump in whenever they felt like it.

But most of the time, the wolves and the Tiaks just sat by the edge of their respective sectors, hoping to dive into the waters as soon as their handlers allowed it.

Moreover, this was only one of the five enclosures made by the Tulkas over the years. With that many monsters in their enclosures, the tribe never had to worry about an invasion from their enemies or other beasts.

Adrian was surprised to see their strength regarding monsters and knew why Banurs didn’t want a head-on confrontation with the Tulkas.

However, one other thing was kept in the sectors comprised of several other sectors combined as one. It was a crimson-skinned creature almost as tall as the building itself and twice as wide as one sector.

It had four large floppy ears. Two were at the side of its massive head, and two were on top of each of those. It also had two massive trunks extending from its ginormous head to its legs, which were as big as the columns that supported the enclosure’s roof.

Not to mention its four tusks that were about as big as its legs. All in all, the creature looked very intimidating and yet gentle at the same time.

It didn’t take long for Adrian to recognise the beast. It was the same as the creature that the Banurs hailed as the protector of the Forbidden Forest and the king of beasts... the Mammoroth.

’How the hell did they capture it?’

That was the only thought in Adrian’s head. For the first time since getting captured by the Tulkas, Adrian felt in danger and wondered if he had joined hands with the wrong side.

But he wasn’t allowed to wonder for long as he pushed to the other side of the enclosure, where he could see a couple of other slaves standing in what looked like a pond.

However, on closer look, he realised it was a breeding ground for slimes and a hunting area for the slaves tasked with farming them.
