Chapter 60: [Weekly Bonus Chapter 5/6] A Fight Long Overdue (1)
"I’m sorry... I’m sorry..." Rina mumbled while running away in random directions, "I’m sorry, Leno, I just did what I had to..."
The monster had just killed Shika, and now it stood between Rina and Leno, probably deciding who would be its next prey.
It was a creature whom none of them had seen or heard of before. While Rina was trying to figure out their next step, he noticed the damn abomination was eyeing him and knew he had to do something or else he would die.
At that moment, Rina just wanted to save his butt and no one else. So he grabbed a fairly big rock from the ground and threw it at Leno’s head. Leno, who was fixated on the monster, didn’t notice the rock being hurled over towards him and fell on the ground with a thud.
"Argh!" Leno screamed as his vision blurred.
The blood gushed out of the wound on his head and attracted the monster towards him. As predicted, the monster ignored Rina and jumped onto a defenceless Leno. Rina’s plan had worked, and now it was time to escape.
As he ran toward their wolves, Rina couldn’t help but stare at his ’friend’, who was most certainly going to die. He just hoped the dead wouldn’t hold a grudge towards him; after all, he did what he had to do.
But what Rina saw next was nothing less than a scene from a horror movie. At that moment, he knew neither his nor Leno’s death would be as painless or quick as Shika’s. The monster took his time killing Leno, savouring his every scream slowly.
It first tore his legs apart from his body because Leno had been desperately kicking the 12-foot-tall humanoid monster in a last-ditch effort to save himself.
Unfortunately, his actions annoyed the monster even more and also made the monster want to ’play’ more with Leno. The things the monster did to make Leno scream were indescribable, but it kept at it till there was no blood left in his body.
With his razor-sharp nails, It ripped through his stomach and started eating his intestines like instant noodles... all this time, Leno was still alive, barely, but alive.
How did Rina know he was alive? Because his friend kept begging Reno to save him, mustering all his strength to do so.
But Rina turned a blind eye to the situation and kept running till he reached where they had kept the wolves... only to find them slaughtered.
They had left the wolves behind so they wouldn’t scare the prey off or bring unnecessary attention to them. But now Rina’s brilliant plan had fired back.
The forest was vast and uneven. This made escaping the monster on foot nearly impossible. Panicking, Rina looked back again to check where the creature was, and it was busy killing Leno.
"Shit, shit, shit!" Rina panicked when he saw the creature ’playing’ with Leno.
The next moment, Rina puked his guts out as he saw the monster push its nails through Leno’s eyes. At this point, Leno didn’t even have the energy to scream or resist. He just wanted to die, so he lay there, allowing the monster to do whatever it wanted until he finally died.
Rina could no longer stay there and watch it all happen but kept running tirelessly. He wanted to live and did not dare to stop, scared that the monster would catch up to him and do what it did to Leno and Shika or maybe do something even worse. Even thinking about it made him run even faster.
He ran for what seemed like hours, but there was no end to the forest because, clueless to him, he had been running in circles, which was expected as it was his first time in the forbidden forest, and he didn’t know his way around.
"Where should I go next-" Rina mumbled and heard a blood-curdling growl from the forest. He looked up and saw the one thing he didn’t want to...
The monster had already caught up to him and was sitting on a tree branch, Leno’s corpse still on its shoulders. It was amused to see the human’s reaction and decided to have more fun.
The monster threw the gutless corpse of Leno in front of Rina, who stumbled over Leno’s body... his eyeless face gazing through his soul, almost cursing at him for doing what he did to him.
Right as Rina was about to get up and run, something grabbed his legs and lifted him off the ground. The monster turned him upside down and... smiled in Rina’s face; it was no ordinary smile... it was filled with murderous intent.
"No... no... NO!"
Rina’s fears overwhelmed him, and he ended up wetting himself. This pleased the monster even more, and he started laughing hysterically while touching his wet crotch; his ear-piercing laughter echoed through the forest.
Monster’s laughter helped Rina regain his senses. He knew it was a do-or-die scenario for him right now; adrenaline once again rushed through his body; he wasn’t going to go down like Shika or Leno, not without a fight.
He gathered whatever strength he had left in his body and used the only magic spell he knew, [Fireball].
"YOU WANNA LAUGH? LAUGH AT THIS YOU BASTARD!"
As the monster opened its mouth, Rina barraged him with Fireball after Fireball. It didn’t do much damage, but it temporarily blinded the monster, and he dropped Rina on the ground.
Rina ran away once again, and this time, he successfully got out of the forest, where he found an elder overseeing the hunt and told him everything.
"WHAT? Who told you brats to go there!?" the elder yelled at him, but Rina didn’t care; he just wanted to get out of the forest and urged the elder to do the same.
The elder wanted to smack the shit out of Rina for pulling such a stunt but knew the situation was dangerous and required immediate attention. So they immediately rushed towards the settlement to inform the Matriarch about it.
However, those too deep into the forest were unaware of the situation and carried on with the hunt... Adrian being one of them.
