Chapter 59: Incompetent Fools (3)
Chapter 59: Incompetent Fools (3)
Somewhere in the forest...
Adrian’s three targets had grouped together and were trying to hunt a mammoth-like monster called the King of the Forest that no one had dared to fight, let alone kill.
However, the teens, fueled with testosterone and fire to prove themselves as the greatest hunters in the tribe, thought they would kill the creature and then ask for a reward that only the most degenerate and horny kids could think of.
But that wasn’t the only reason they were trying so hard. The Matriarch’s pet outsider had been getting on their nerves, and if their first request were rejected, which they knew it would, they would ask for Adrian to be ousted from the tribe.
Since the Matriarch would have already declined them once, she would have difficulty denying them again. That was their plan, but first, they needed to hunt the biggest prey the forest had to offer, something that wouldn’t be as easy as they had thought.
"We shouldn’t be here! This place is haunted!" The one named Shika cried in his squeaky voice. "There’s a reason why this place is called the Forbidden Forest!"
The forbidden forest was a far-off section in the Banur tribe’s hunting area. Only high-ranking warriors of the tribe were allowed to enter the place, not because of the mammoth but because of the frequent intrusions from the Nether and other realms.
In fact, the tribe had been slowly taming the King of the forest by feeding it around the border regions of the forbidden forest and training it to roam around that region of the forest.
That way, the intruders would have a difficult time getting past the mammoth, and the King of the forest would act as a guardian for them.
But the council didn’t want anyone from their tribe accidentally coming across the King, so they decided to name the place the Forbidden Forest, where the souls of their ancestors rest.
In other words, it was a place where no one was allowed as it would disturb their ancestors. Unfortunately, the teens had no idea about the tribe’s internal matters and went inside the forbidden forest to hunt.
Even Adrian was found in this place by Akila, returning after placing feed for the King. But the teens were not aware of anything.
"Shut up, Shika, there’s nothing like ghosts here!" Rina, the group’s burly leader, yelled back at him.
"And just in case there’s something here, I brought this to take care of it." Leno, the group’s rich brat, showed off his weapon in front of his friends.
Leno’s family had been in the role of the Matriarch for a long time. But since he was a male, he couldn’t contest the position, and he thought it was the only reason the tribe didn’t acknowledge him or his exceptional skills.
When in reality, Leno was nothing but a snotty brat who thought too highly of himself and his skills. Even if the tribe had been forced to pick a Patriarch, he would be the only one voting for himself... except, perhaps, his mother, who loved him in a way no mother should.
"Just wait till I take that witch of a matriarch as my bride; then, no one would look down on me!" Leno mumbled before laughing like a maniac.
Rina and Shika knew Leno was nothing special but didn’t say anything to him because his mother was a council member and completely smitten by her baby. If they dare break her boy’s heart, then god knows what she would do to them.
As for the weapon Leno held, it was indeed special. It was a weapon that cost more than what most Nexarians made in a lifetime. Obviously, Leno’s family got it for free after killing its true owner during one of the skirmishes with the Nexarian soldiers.
It was a silvery sword, known to be made with the remains of the first-ever S-ranked boss monster that appeared in Nexaria. It was a beast resembling the sabertooth tiger, with the difference being in size and the colour of its hide.
The blue-skinned cat was nicknamed ’King of all Beasts’ due to its majestic mane, and it had an astonishing weight of 600 kg and a height of 211 cm.
Not to mention, its razor-sharp canine had killed countless Divers who had tried to challenge it. No one could kill it, but eventually, the King of all beasts succumbed to the countless wounds that covered its majestic body.
A blacksmith got his hands on the creature’s backbone and used it to craft a sword like no other.
The sword was eventually bought by a noble who gifted it to his son. Unfortunately, none of them could use the sword to its true potential as it was way above the one who wielded it.
The son of the noble eventually made his way into the Banur tribe’s region, hoping to capture a woman as his slave. Unfortunately, he was the one captured, toyed with and then died while climbing the Statue of Death, and Leno’s family got the sword.
"Forget about the sword," Rina sighed before turning back. "Where the hell is Nishka? He was supposed to join us here."
"I- I’m telling you, t- there’s something wrong with this place!" Shika stuttered. "Most likely, N-Nishka felt it too and ran away!"
’Why did I team up with these idiots?’ Rina sighed, shaking his head.
Despite the reassurances, Shika was still afraid of the possibilities and kept shaking in fear. There was something wrong with the place, he could feel it.
"For the last time, It’s not a haunted forest, dude! It’s all a rumour." Leno poked Shika’s butt with the tip-off of his sword, which made him jump in fear but kept consciously looking around his surroundings.
"There’s no point in continuing the hunt without Nishka," Rina ordered his party members. "Let’s head back and find where that moron ran off to without supplies."
"Yes, let’s leave!" Shika jumped with joy.
Finally, he could leave the forbidden forest and breathe peacefully until his two ’friends’ dragged him back into the forest along with them.
"Yeah, let’s go, even I’m a bit tired after carrying around this sword for this long," Leno replied, not knowing what was going to happen next.
While Shika was happy about leaving, a hand emerged from the trees and grabbed him by his head. Before the rest could do anything, the hand lifted him off the ground and snapped his neck in half right in front of his friends.
The teenagers were scared beyond their limits in the face of the thrill they had been seeking for so long. Even the almighty sword had slipped away from Leno’s hands.
Although he had been trained to fight monsters, this was Leno’s first-ever encounter with a monster without his trainers, who had always helped him when things went wrong.
It was the same for Rina as well; none of them knew what they were going so to do next. Fortunately for them, death was already at their doorstep, and they wouldn’t need to do anything to cross it as a kind soul was right there to help them out.
