Chapter 218: Royal Mess Up (1)

"You managed to sign who?" John yelled into the phone. "The super rookie? You’re joking, right?"

"Not at all, sir. It’s true," Michaela responded, her voice tinged with excitement. "He just left after signing the contract. We’re eagerly awaiting your arrival to make the official announcement."

"This is fantastic!" John couldn’t contain his excitement either.

Having Adrian in his guild was a massive feat. As long as they publicly announced it, everyone would forget about Shinon and Eudora.

’Then we’ll be able to deal with that rascal Shinon and those who helped him.’

Revenge was the sole focus in John’s mind. Yet, a lingering question persisted. Why would someone of Adrian’s calibre choose their guild without consulting any other guilds? It just felt off.

"Assign him to my team," John said. "Seeing how he copes with a rank A dungeon will be fun-"

"I’m afraid that might not be possible," Michaela softly muttered. "Adrian had certain conditions for joining us. One of which was that he’d create his own team. Going back on our word now might taint our image in his eyes."

"Condition? What else did you promise him?"

Michaela explained Adrian’s terms and conditions for joining the guild, and John became more curious. As Michaela told him, Adrian’s requests were strange indeed, but it also made sense for someone like him to have extraordinary needs.

"No wonder the DRA didn’t bother recruiting him," John smiled. "Adrian wants to be the apex predator, not a circus lion. Although we had to give him much more than I’d have liked, you did good, Michaela."

"Thank you, sir!"

"Still, it’s a shame I can’t keep him close... Michaela, I entrust this task to you," John replied with a cunning expression. "Do whatever you have to to get close to him. And I mean, whatever it takes, no exceptions."

Michaela’s mood soured when she heard those words. It wasn’t the first time John had asked such a thing from her. After all, the connections the guild had formed were made possible because of her sacrifices... including but not limited to her dignity.

She may not have possessed the looks of a supermodel, yet she exuded a captivating allure that made her undeniably desirable. It was this magnetic charm, combined with her talent for winning over others, that earned her the alias "Black Widow."

However, deep down, she only did those things because she genuinely loved John. He knew it, and that’s why he never hesitated before using her love to his advantage. In reality, she was nothing more than a pawn for him.

"As you wish, sir," Michaela responded after a few moments. "I’ll take care of it."

"Good. Don’t forget to keep me in the loop. I’ll be back in a month or so."

At Shinon’s workshop...

"Wow, you look... tired," Adrian commented as Shinon came outside to greet him along with massive dark rings before his eyes.

"You can thank yourself for that," Shinon yawned, beckoning Adrian to come inside.

Adrian wasn’t sure but entered either way. Back in Nexaria, a blacksmith’s forge was considered sacred, and none of them allowed guests inside to maintain the purity of the place. But those norms were either not applicable on earth, or Shinon trusted him enough not to care about them.

As Adrian stepped inside, the first thing he saw was the sturdy wooden building, its walls lined with tools of every shape and size. Next, obviously, was the massive furnace, which had roaring blue flames instead of the ordinary yellow-orange flames.

Around him, apprentices scurried to and fro, fetching materials and tending to the fires. Their faces were eager and bright, their hands steady as they learned the trade secrets from the master himself.

Adrian’s mind wandered about before it went back to Shinon’s comment about being tired. Adrian knew the blacksmith had probably been working day and night to make gear and weapons for his team.

Not only did he desire specific attributes, but Adrian also wanted the weapons to be made quickly, prompting Shinon to work faster than ever before.

"Here we are," Shinon said, pointing at the boxes before him. "Everything you wanted is here. Bow and arrows, daggers, throwing knives, magic staff and spears and the light armours are next to the stands."

Despite not having the [Analysis] skill to depend on, Adrian knew the gear and weapons were top-tier. The armours were perfect, just like Adrian had imagined them to be.

He didn’t need any of those for himself but for the girls. The armour and weapons he got from the system’s rewards were good enough for him.

That’s why he had asked Shinon to make a bow and arrow for A’Mila, Dagger and throwing knives for Seraphina and Vesper.

The spear was for Amelia to use with one arm, and the staff was for Sophia, though he was curious if she’d need that anymore since she had the Goblin Shaman’s staff with her.

As for the armour, they were versatile enough to be used by Assassins, mages or archers without causing any ruckus. Just as Adrian wanted them to be.

[The entity, Creator of Deformed Perfection, admires the mortal’s creations and offers to bless them.]

’Not here,’ Adrian replied.

He didn’t want Shinon to get suspicious of anything. It was better to take the weapons away before having the entity bless them.

"To be honest, when you first told me what you wanted, I thought you were crazy," Shinon commented, picking up the spear with changeable blades.

He continued, "From my limited knowledge, having weapons with interchangeable modes seemed impractical. But after turning your thoughts into reality, I learned something new."

"Is it that big of a deal?" Adrian asked, smiling as if he already knew the answer.

"I guess not," Shinon shook his head. "Everyone is bound to have some secrets. I’m not keen on souring our relationship just to get something more out of you. Well, if you need anything else, you know where to find me."

"What about the payment?"

"Meh, your designs are worth more than any monetary compensation," Shinon yawned again before leaving the workshop. "Make good use of the gear; that would be enough for me."
