Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer
Chapter 216: I Desire Freedom (1)

Chapter 216: I Desire Freedom (1)

As Adrian returned to the realm of the mortals, his entire body ached. Unlike the last time, it seemed he had carried over the fatigue he felt after being dominated by the kitsune.

’Who would have thought battling without my eyes would be so difficult...’

As an analyst, Adrian could decipher the reason for his defeat. It wasn’t that the kitsune was powerful—well, she was stronger than Adrian expected—but it could be because of the abnormal behaviour of the creature he fought during the harmony trial.

Another reason for his defeat was the active curses on him. His stats were still reduced and would continue to be reduced for another day. If he had all his stats at his disposal, the kitsune would have lost more than a few tails, a fact that only added to his frustration.

However, it seemed Adrian wasn’t done and was given bad news after bad news. One such news arrived the moment Adrian stepped out of the cold storage.

[Due to their inability to pass the trial, the User’s effectiveness is diminished when utilising abilities associated with their eyes.]

[The User is requested to clear the trial to restore their control over the mentioned organ(s).]

"Of course, it just had to happen," Adrian rolled his eyes before closing the prompts.

[The higher entity, Faithful Spouse In Unfaithful Marriage, is pleased to notice the User’s struggle and hopes more misery piles on him.]

’Ah, this bitch again... you should know when not to open your blubbering mouth. Oh well, I’ll gladly teach you a lesson in etiquette.’

’Woah, careful! You’re letting the ugliness of your face out for everyone to see, madam entity,’ Adrian smirked. ’Maybe the ugliness is why your spouse is unfaithful to you. Can’t blame him, really.’

[Countless entities gasp in horror.]

[Some entities urge the User to take back what he said.]

[Some entities are laughing like never before.]

[The higher entity, The Monkey Sage with a Golden Headband, laughs alongside his clones and says, Finally, someone like him has appeared in the mortal realm.]

Adrian could only imagine how a higher entity would react to being insulted by a mortal. Oh well, there was a first time for everything. It was probably time she got a taste of something new.

However, to Adrian’s and other entities’ surprise, Hera or the Faithful Spouse In Unfaithful Marriage didn’t respond to his blatant provocation.

While the entities thought Adrian got lucky, those who knew Hera disagreed. She was someone who took no disrespect from even her husband or other entities without plotting revenge.

Therefore, it was unlikely that she would let Adrian’s comments slide. Such entities wished him luck in his future endeavours because Hera would definitely mess with every step he took from that moment on.

’Did I do the right thing?’

Hearing all the warnings made Adrian wonder if his decision to call out Hera was right. Sure, she was getting on his nerves, but maybe he shouldn’t have gone against someone as petty as her.

After all, he was a mortal, and they were strong entities. Even though they were bound by rules, there was no saying what they could do with their powers.

’Oh well, what’s done’s done. There’s no point thinking about it anymore.’

A few hours later...

Michaela sat at her cluttered desk in the Misty Sword Guild office, surrounded by stacks of papers and folders. A cup of coffee lay forgotten by her side as she worked without even blinking once.

She furrowed her brow as she arranged the files and sent out applications to reserve dungeons according to the guild’s needs, her fingers moving deftly over the keyboard of her desktop computer.

Without looking up, she heard the door to her office burst open, and a frantic-looking junior rushed in. Michaela glanced up, her brow raised as it was the first time someone had disobeyed her instructions not to disturb her.

"What’s the rush?" she asked, her voice calm but tinged with frustration as she was already swamped with work.

"Ma’am, you’ve got to come quick," he said, panting frantically. "Adrian Fenrir is in the lobby, asking to meet with the recruitment officer."

Michaela’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of Adrian’s name. She had been eagerly awaiting his response to the offer she had left in his application.

But since many days had passed, she thought maybe he wasn’t interested in them. She even suspected someone had told him about the scandal between Shinon and Eudora and thought that was why he had never contacted one of the biggest guilds in America.

However, now that he was there, she didn’t want to waste more time. With a sense of urgency, she pushed herself away from her desk and stood up, her chair rolling back with a squeak.

"Adrian Fenrir?" Michaela asked, her mind racing with possibilities. "Is he alone, or there’s someone else with him?"

"He’s by himself," the man replied, following Michaela. "He probably wanted to discuss the offer-"

"Yeah, shut up," Michaela raised her finger before entering the lift. "Ask others to keep him entertained. I’ll be there in a minute."

"...bitch," the man cursed under his breath but got to work regardless of her attitude.

"Finally, things started to look up." Michaela couldn’t contain her emotions and let out a rare smile. "If Adrian joins us, all the bad press we’ve been getting recently would be silenced overnight. I can not let him slip. Even if it meant we’d have to give him everything he wants..."

She had worked hard to tailor the offer to his skills and experience, hoping to convince him to join the Misty Sword Guild. Now, it seemed, her efforts were about to bear fruit.

As she approached the entrance, she saw Adrian standing there, his tall figure silhouetted against the soft light filtering through the windows. He turned to face her as she approached.

However, even with her skill, she couldn’t penetrate his mind to understand his thoughts. She had used the skill countless times to offer the recruits what they desired the most, but it seemed she’d have to do the negotiations the old way.

"Mr Fenrir," Michaela said, her voice tinged with excitement. "I’m so glad you could make it."

"Of course, Ms...?"

"Michaela, the recruitment head of the Misty Swords guild," Michaela replied. "How about we take this discussion to my office?"
