Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer -

Chapter 190: Toppling The Order (1)
George was furious once Adrian told him about last night’s incident —so much so that he almost instructed the juniors from his firm to write a cease-and-desist letter to them.
But Adrian stopped him. Clearly, his former family didn’t have much respect for the nation’s laws, but if they wanted to test him, they would have to bear the brunt as well.
But in order to do what he wanted, he would first need to become a ranker. Once he got his hand on the speciality laws that protect Rankers, he was free to do with them as he pleased.
By this time, the girls had joined in and were informed about the incident. Adrian then had to stop Sophia from doing something, but seeing her acting like that was quite nice.
That’s when Adrian explained his plans to them, and George got up and left. After all, what Adrian was planning to do was barely legal, and as a lawyer, George couldn’t be a part of the discussions as much as he wanted to—not yet, at least.
With their plan ready, Adrian scheduled a time for them to appear for the Ranker’s test for the day, with James’s help.

Within half an hour, the group stood in front of a massive building in the heart of Brickell, Miami’s financial district.
Adrian remembered the place as a bustling and popular neighbourhood full of lively bars, restaurants, art galleries, and entertainment venues. It was also one of the largest financial centres in South Florida and home to many corporate headquarters, banks, and foreign consulates.
So, it wasn’t surprising that a global association like the DRA had their regional headquarters there. James was already waiting for them when they arrived and swiftly guided them inside while the others had to wait in long lines to be admitted.
"You look tired," Adrian commented, noticing the thick bags under his eyes.
"Yeah... The Misty Swords have been on DRA’s ass ever since Eudora got arrested," James replied, covering his mouth to yawn. "I can’t blame them for trying. John Black has a reputation to maintain, so he’s going all out."
"I thought her admittance to the crime was plenty to seal the case?" Seraphina inquired.
"Usually, it would be enough. But rankers have privileges, and rankers with money love to abuse those privileges," James shrugged, leading them through the reserved corridors, skipping most of the crowd. "Let’s forget about it for now. After all, you’re here on business."
’It’s sure nice to have connections,’ Adrian thought as another bunch of people shot their nasty gaze at them.
It was confusing to know whether the men were pissed about someone having privileges or if it was because of the girls accompanying one man. Either way, they headed inside without talking much.
’What’s with this crowd?’
Those were Adrian’s first thoughts when they entered the first test chamber. The place was a massive auditorium with more than a hundred people inside. Their numbers, coupled with those standing outside, could easily reach over seven hundred.
Most of them had expensive-looking equipment, while the others looked like they couldn’t care less about anything, at least not their worn-down weapons. But one thing was common between them... their thirst for power and influence.
"Do so many people come every day to get tested?" Adrian asked.
James smiled and nodded, "Ever since the people realised the riches associated with becoming a hunter, everyone wants to be one and, hence, get tested.
But most of them don’t really have the skills. Even if they do, it’s usually just enough to land them in the lower ranks, like E or F."
"Interesting," Sophia mumbled while Amelia kept to herself as usual.
As for A’Mila, well, she was overwhelmed with the new sights. Adrian couldn’t blame her. Compared to the Wilderness, Earth was heaps and bounds ahead in terms of advancements, so her reaction was more or less expected.
"It’s a pity most of them won’t last a day in Nexaria," Seraphina shrugged.
Adrian nodded in agreement. As he used [Analysis], only a handful of people caught his attention, but only five had talents comparable to those of an average Nexarian army soldier.
In other words, while the ’hunters’, as they were called, had pretty equipment, their skills were sub-par at best. However, this also solved one of Adrian’s queries regarding the ranking system employed by the earthlings.
’It’s way below Nexarian standards. Which means... it’d be easy to topple the order.’
Just then, someone approached Sophia. It was a young girl, probably 18-19, carrying a pen and paper.
"Y-You’re Sophia Fernandez, right?" she asked in her squeaky voice, and as she did, heads immediately began to turn.
The others were surprised, but none more than Sophia. Meanwhile, Adrian kept watching them, wondering what it was all about.
"...yes-" Sophia admitted, and the next moment, the girl squealed in excitement.
"I KNEW IT!" the girl cried out, thrusting the pen and paper towards Sophia for an autograph. "I adore your voice and own all your albums! Your fans have been so worried since you vanished suddenly, but meeting you here makes me so happy!"
"Um... thanks," Sophia gave her an awkward smile, giving the girl the autograph she wanted.
But more people kept coming, and in the end, James had to call for security to get things under control.
"That’s why you wore a mask whenever we went out," Seraphina teased Sophia once things settled down.
"I didn’t know you were a singer," Adrian said, surprised.
"Well, you did, but... Let’s forget about that," Sophia said, shaking her head. "The tests are about to begin."
Turning their attention to the stage, they saw a towering woman standing there. She was like an Amazonian warrior with her impressive height and muscular build.
When the group caught sight of her, they instinctively turned to look at A’Mila, who resembled her but with less muscle.
"What are you staring at?" she snapped, and they all quickly turned their gaze back to the stage without saying a word.
