Chapter 185: Gluttony

With that done, Adrian returned to the fey and gently picked him up. Even though he was there to kill the darn thing from the beginning, he felt strange about it now.

’Why did I angry after seeing the fey’s condition?’

Instead of attacking the man, he should have thanked him for making his job easier. Then why was he acting so sympathetic towards the fey when he didn’t care about the man?

’I’m really turning into a monster, aren’t I?’

As much as Adrian wanted to solve his dilemma there, he didn’t have the time to. The fey, roughly the size of a newborn, could feel what was coming next, but he smiled instead of trying to escape.

Adrian didn’t know what was going on inside the creature’s head, but he wrapped the whip around the fey’s head before snapping it in half. A bright light suddenly emerged from the beast, blinding Adrian.

At first, Adrian thought the fey had a card under his sleeve and prepared to face him. However, as the light disappeared, so did the fey, leaving behind a small mana core.

[You have killed Fey’s physical form! Exp +500]

[Total Exp: 500/--]

[The exp points will be accumulated for the User to use later.]

[Please complete the <Ascension Quest> to continue levelling up.]

’Right, I forgot about it. But before that...’

Adrian eyed the mana core left behind by the fey. Since the creatures were capable of astral travel, they must have a lot of mana.

Adrian couldn’t believe his eyes. He expected the core to be something special, but not this good. Not only would he get a significant mana increase from 95% to 600%, but there were also abilities associated with the core.

’I’m afraid I’ll end up using all my luck today...’

Between the weapons he would get from Shinon and the core in his hand, things were already better than they had ever been. But there was one minor issue.

’The Monster Index is still stuck at level 3. I need to register 11 more creatures before I can unlock more slots to absorb the core. Unless...’

While he might not have any additional slots, Adrian could always make a sacrifice. He didn’t want to sacrifice any of his existing organs, but the core was too good to pass up.

But there was another way to increase his slots.

Adrian opened the quest tab to take a look at his advancement quest. While he wasn’t strange to such quests, there was something odd about the quest he received.

’Why is it a chain quest?’

Unlike regular quests, which usually tell users everything they need to do from the start, chain quests follow a ’stage’ concept. The User only knows about one task, and the others are revealed once the prior task has been accomplished.

’Devour a human?’

Just thinking about it made his insides churn. How can he indulge in cannibalism? While he had consumed humans before, it had happened when he was unconscious and facing the side effects of [Soul Devourer].

Doing something like that while being in control wasn’t something Adrian even wanted to think about. Unfortunately, he didn’t have much choice in the matter.

If Adrian didn’t do as asked, he’d be stuck at his current level and never have the strength he desires. Just then, he could feel a strange hunger rising within him. It wasn’t anything like he had felt before.

Soon, the hunger began gnawing at his insides, driving him to satisfy the primal urges of his monstrous nature. Adrian closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to find the strength to resist the temptations, as the smell of fresh blood from the man’s injured leg made him even hungrier.

But as the moments passed, he felt his resolve weakening, the relentless hunger clawing at his insides until it became too much to bear.

Torn between his humanity and the primal instincts of the chimaera within him, Adrian knew he had to make a choice. Unfortunately, the instincts of a monster overpowered the little humanity he had left.

Stepping towards the injured man, Adrian knew he had crossed a line he couldn’t return from. However, just then, a prompt appeared before him that stopped him in his tracks.

[The entity, Sin of Sloth, instructs the User to hold for a while.]

[The entity, Sin of Sloth, eyes her brother with puppy eyes asking for his help.]

[The entity, Sin of Gluttony, tries to ignore his sister, focusing on the 420-course meal before him.]

Despite Gluttony’s best efforts, Sloth managed to get Adrian’s attention on the ongoing problem. Eventually, the brother relented, stopping his meal to get caught up to speed.

[The entity, Sin of Gluttony, burps loudly, shaking a circle of hell. He says he’ll help the User on one condition.]

Adrian wondered what the condition would be. But it wasn’t like he had a choice not to accept.

[The entity, Sin of Gluttony, instructs the User to offer him a chosen cuisine whenever asked. The condition will last a month and happen once a day.]

’Is that it?’

[The entity, Sin of Gluttony, eyes the User intently, asking if it wasn’t enough?]

’No! I’ll do it.’

[The entity, Sin of Gluttony, smiles and bestows the User with a skill.]

[New skill, <Gluttony> obtained.]

--

• [ Gluttony ] : (Active Ability) When activated, a swirling vortex of dark energy materialises around the User, targeting an enemy within range.

[ Rank: S ]

[ Mana cost: 90 ]

[ Cooldown: 1 day ]

Note: Upgrading the skill will shorten the cooldown and reduce the mana cost.

’Thanks for this... Sloth.’

[The entity, Sin of Sloth, smiles before returning to sleep.]
