Chapter 182: The Cursed Blacksmith (3)

Eudora stepped into the room, confident as usual. Her bronze skin shone in the soft light, and her long white hair fell down her back like a waterfall. She walked into the mansion as if she owned the place until she saw Shinon.

"Shinon, I told you not to contact me anymore-" she called out as she approached the old, frail-looking man sitting in the corner. "Oh my god... what happened to you!? You look like you’ve aged decades in mere weeks."

Shinon glanced up at Eudora with tired eyes, "It’s...complicated."

Eudora rushed to him, pulling his head into her chest to soothe his conflicted mind. "You can tell me anything, Shinon. Whatever it is, we’ll figure it out together."

However, as she tried her best to console Shinon, he pushed her away with surprising strength. But the look in his eyes caught her off guard... those were the eyes of suspicion.

’Shit! He knows!’

"You know what happened to me, Eudora," Shinon accused, his eyes boring a hole in Eudora’s soul. "I know what you did, and you’re not as innocent as you pretend to be."

"Shinon, what are you saying?" Eudora said, pretending to be shocked. "I’d never do anything to hurt you. You know how much I care about you. I even left my husband for us to be together-"

But as she talked, something inside her broke, and she couldn’t hold back anymore. Within seconds, she burst into laughter, pushing Shinon away.

"Oh, Shinon," she giggled, unable to hold back her laughter anymore. "It took you all this time to figure it out? Were you that blinded by love?"

Shinon looked hurt upon Eudora’s admission. Despite everything, he had hoped she wasn’t involved in the mess, but his heart was shattered then, and his face reflected that.

Watching him with his head down, Eudora stopped laughing and hugged him from behind, kissing the back of his wrinkled neck.

"I’m sorry, my love," she said. "I did what I had to do. You can call me heartless, but our love-making was genuine. Unfortunately, it all changed when John found out about us."

She continued, "You never want an A-Ranker to get angry. So I lied to him, saying you forced me to sleep with you in exchange for crafting weapons for us."

"You lied to him..." Shinon replied before shedding a few tears. "All that talk about leaving him was a lie, too?"

Watching him cry was disgusting, and Eudora let go of him before rolling her eyes.

"Of course not!" she claimed, sitting beside him. "But, like I said, plans changed. He was irate and hatched a plan to get back at you. I don’t know how he did it, but now that I see you... I’d say it worked."

Saying that Eudora got up and gathered her purse. "Be glad I changed his mind about killing you. Of course, I had to endure his anger at night. Your little sacrifice brought the fire back in my marriage, so thanks for that."

"How could you!?" Shinon yelled, once again taking Eudora by surprise as he couldn’t possibly have that kind of energy left in his frail body.

"Quit it while I’m being nice!" Eudora lashed out, her hands cackling with lightning. "Besides, consider it a payback for not working with us."

She continued, "If you had agreed to make weapons for us, I would have swayed John to let you be, as you would’ve been helpful to us.

Now look at yourself, a mere shell of your former self, unable to make weapons for anyone ever again. Either way, we are done, and I’m leaving."

As Shinon stared into Eudora’s eyes, he knew she wasn’t the person she had thought her to be. Their connection was nothing more than a stepping stone for her. Now, she had destroyed him and didn’t need him any longer.

However, suddenly, Shinon smiled and said, "You got all that?"

"Have you gone senile-" Eudora scoffed and turned around to see another Shinon walking into the room along with a few DRA officials. "What is this?"

"Allow me to reintroduce myself," the first Shinon said, his form changing to reveal Adrian. Adrian Fenrir, at your service. James, you heard all that?"

"Heard and recorded," James replied.

"You...you planned this?" she stammered. Her eyes widened in shock, and her mouth fell open in disbelief as she realised it had been a trap.

Something changed in her as she stared at Shinon as if cursing him all over again. As much as she wanted to attack him, she knew acting out in front of the DRA would be a bad decision.

Even if she had planned something to do to Shinon, she couldn’t because James stepped forward with special handcuffs.

"You’re under arrest, Mrs. Black," he said, slapping the cuffs on her hands.

"Wait! There’s a mistake! Shinon made me do it!" Eudora’s tone shifted when she realised nobody was listening. "Do you even know how many of your men I have under my payroll-"

"Do you see any of them here?" James replied, and it was enough to silence Eudora. "That’s what I thought. Take her away!"

Once she was out of the building, Shinon couldn’t hold on any longer and collapsed on the sofa. His butlers rushed to help him, but he asked them to leave him for a bit.

"I can’t believe she did this..." he mumbled, his head between his hands. "All the years we spent together meant nothing to her? I-"

"Take your time, Shinon," Adrian sighed, patting his back. "The truth might be out, but you’re not out of the woods yet. We still need to lift this damn curse off you."

"Thanks for your help, Mr Fenrir," Shinon replied, getting up. "I’m confident you can sort this mess for me. If you want anything, one of my attendants will help you. Now, if you’ll excuse me... I want to take a nap."

While Shinon retreated into his room, James thanked Adrian for his help, assured him he would pull the curse’s truth out of Eudora’s mouth, and left.

Although he said that, Adrian wasn’t too sure about it. Judging by Eudora’s reaction, it didn’t seem like she knew much about the curse besides her husband John’s involvement.

"Fenris, you got the scent?" Adrian asked the tiny puppy hiding in the corner. "Good, then let’s end this farce and get those weapons."
