Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer
Chapter 177: Facing The Family (2)

Chapter 177: Facing The Family (2)

DRA class 2 special agent.

It was a fancy title, but that was all there was to it. In reality, it was but a glorified term for a punchbag with responsibilities—the responsibility of correcting the superiors’ mistakes and taking the fall when necessary.

The ’Ants’, as they were usually referred to, were the ones who kept the system in check, even when it meant shouldering the blame, just like James was doing now, while Adrian was busy making call after call.

I heard he was supposed to be a kind and caring man,’ James thought. ’But this guy seems nothing like those media people portrayed him to be.

His eyes then fell on the spies, all C-ranked assassins, with surveillance being their forte. While James had diffused the situation by spinning a tale about some test, he knew the Association wanted to keep an eye on Adrian and his party but went about it the worst way possible.

James couldn’t do much but let out a frustrated sigh. The Association wanted Adrian to work for them, but their acts would just push him away.

It wouldn’t have been much of a concern if they could have made at least someone from the group join them. However, the girls seemed dedicated to Adrian and would follow in his footsteps.

It increased Adrian’s value even more. But for some reason, the Association seemed to be hellbent on pissing him off, if not worse.

It appears I’ll be busy for a while investigating the higher-ups. There has to be a reason why they are acting hostile towards a golden goose like Adrian.

James had been suspicious of the local branch of the DRA. They had done too many suspicious things and made illogical decisions, including ignoring a dungeon on the verge of an outbreak for him to ignore.

But then again, he was a Class 2 special agent; what could he do even if something was going on?

Fortunately, Adrian’s approaching footsteps snapped James out of his thoughts.

"I’ll be heading home now," Adrian remarked, handing James his phone back. "And please convey my thoughts to the Association. I would rather have them take a direct approach than use such cheap tricks of ’testing’ my ability."

"Will do. By the way, do you need a vehicle or something-"

"No need. I got my own."

"He’s... alive?" Anna Fenrir broke down crying upon receiving the news.

Six years ago, she had made the worst decision of her life and taken her son for granted. When news of his ’suicide’ reached her, Anna had a mental breakdown.

The only thing she could see was Adrian’s defeated face when they told him about Joseph’s and Emma’s relationship and that he would be losing the company Anna and he had worked together to create.

Her son’s expressions had haunted her for six long years. But now, her husband, Jacob Taylor, informed her that he was alive, and she couldn’t be any happier.

However, in her happiness, she didn’t notice that she was the only one pleased with the news. Emma, Joseph, and Jacob all had a strange, sad look on their faces as if someone had stolen something from them.

"Mom, don’t be too happy about it!" Joseph yelled, his anger boiling over. "Do you think he won’t be mad about what we did years ago? If we don’t act, he’ll come and ruin everything we’ve worked for!"

"That’s right," Emma said, rolling her misty blue eyes. "The way things are now, nothing is stopping him from walking in and throwing us out of the Villa and taking over the company we poured out blood and sweat over."

"What are you two talking about!?" Anna yelled back at them.

"They are right, Anna," Jacob mumbled. "If the company stays under your name, which it has been since Adrian’s disappearance, there’s nothing we can legally do to stop him from taking over.

Just think about Joseph and our grandchild that Emma is carrying. It would be better if you signed over the company to them for their future."

Anna couldn’t believe it. She had already lost her son once because of them, and now they were planning to do something to cause him more harm. She couldn’t allow it to happen.

Fortunately, there wasn’t much she needed to do either way. The Villa’s doors burst open the next moment, catching everyone’s attention. They all turned to see Adrian and a dozen others standing in the doorway.

While the family didn’t know who most of them were, they recognised Adrian and Jones, his long-time redhead lawyer friend.

"Oh, good, all the backstabbing bitches have gathered in one place," Adrian smirked. "That’ll make your job easier, George."

"That it will," George replied. "Not to mention, it will cut the cost of serving them individually."

"What are you doing here!?" Joseph snarled, threateningly stepping towards Adrian. "GUARDS! GUARDS! These rotten bastards allowing anyone to enter the Villa-"

Joseph was itching for a fight. He’d hired some D and C-grade hunters to keep watch, ready for this showdown. If Adrian showed up, those guards would take him down, no questions asked.

But things didn’t go as planned. Joseph hollered for his guards, but nobody came running. Once he peeked outside, Joseph understood why no one was answering him. All the guards were down on the ground, and a massive wolf ensured compliance.

"Anyone?" Adrian scoffed. "You’re standing on my property-"

"Your property?" Jacob stepped forward, but so did George.

"Yes, it’s his property," he said, waving a copy of Adrian’s will. "According to my client’s will, in the event of a ’presumed’ demise, the distribution of his assets is deferred until seven years and eleven months from the supposed date of passing or until his remains are discovered."

He continued, "Moreover, should my client reappear subsequent to his disappearance, any properties under contention would need to be promptly relinquished to him by all claimants."

"Since my client is alive and none of the stipulated conditions have been fulfilled, you all are encroaching upon his property, thus rendering yourselves liable to trespassing charges. That’s all."

Adrian thanked Geaorge before turning to his ’family’, "You heard the man. In other words, pack your shit and get lost before I throw you out myself."
