Chapter 170: Death Awaits (2)

Seraphina blew a section of the wall for them to escape. As for Fenrir, she expanded to her maximum size. Her towering figure could carry everyone except Adrian, who decided to stay.

Everyone was confused with his decision as it wasn’t the plan. But Adrian insisted he needed to deal with something before he could leave with them.

The girls weren’t pleased with the change but followed Adrian’s request. Before they departed, Adrian looked at Vesper. She had fallen asleep in A’Mila’s arms without seeing Adrian’s face.

After that, they left, and Adrian made his way back to the Church. By now, everything was in chaos. The once-decorated walls of the Church were now littered with rubble and debris. Adrian could still hear the battle raging outside, but surprisingly, no one was inside.

However, as Adrian entered the main halls of the Church, it became clear why everything was calm inside. Countless bodies lay strewn about, their lifeless faces twisted with agony.

Adrian might have felt some sympathy for them, but what they did to Vesper, coupled with the contracts they put out for his death, were enough to kill any affection he might have had for them.

"It’s a good thing they’re dead," Adrian mumbled, kicking away a priest’s corpse. "Or I would have killed them myself."

With half his job taken care of by strangers, Adrian decided it was time to get rid of the pinging notifications. He was flooded with messages from the system and various entities when he opened the prompts.

Some were pleased with what he did, while some were strictly against what he did by essentially causing dozens upon dozens of deaths. However, Adrian had one thing to say to them, the entities could go and fuck themselves.

"I don’t care what you might have to say," Adrian mumbled, closing the prompts without even glancing at them. "This is personal, not something for your entertainment. If that upsets you, you’re free to leave."

Adrian expected them to make a fuss. After all, who would take kindly to someone lower than them, barking obscenities at them? But to his surprise, the entities simply got quiet and stopped commenting on him or his actions.

With that out of the way, Adrian moved on to more important matters. As he checked his stats, he realised he had jumped from level 21 to level 25 despite not killing any monsters.

It was weird because killing humans granted little to no experience points. But he had only been killing humans for a while. That’s why it made no sense for him to have gained four levels.

"Unless the ones I killed were human," Adrian mumbled, but there was something else. "Or I’m no longer considered a human."

Staring at his hands, Adrian wondered if the increasing number of monster organs inside made the system recognise him as a monster. Therefore, he levelled up after killing the paladins.

Adrian’s laughter echoed through the chamber as he processed the absurd revelation. Killing humans was somehow granting him more experience than slaying monstrous beasts. The thought seemed ridiculous, almost comical.

While laughing his heart out, Adrian realised something. If he was truly gaining more experience from killing humans, he was about to amass an unprecedented amount of experience—far beyond anything he had ever imagined.

But that wasn’t all. Upon killing the Paladins with [Blood Poison], he had fulfilled the condition for an upgrade, making the poison in his blood even more lethal.

He no longer needed to force his blood into a target’s body. Merely smelling it was enough, as the skill [Blood Poison] had been upgraded to [Blood Mist].

The only drawback was that the skill had been turned into an active skill from a passive one. This meant Adrian would now have to make a conscious effort to trigger the skill and turn his blood into poison.

Adrian pricked his finger to test the changes, allowing the blood to ooze out before activating the skill. The moment he activated the skill, his blood changed into a mist that spread fast. Upon cancelling the skill, the fog vanished, along with his wound.

Without a word, Adrian headed into the courtyard, where the battle was still raging. His eyes turned completely red, with rage and blood lust.

While the Church’s interior had been thrashed, the courtyard was no better. The lush green garden had turned crimson with blood and gore spread everywhere. The ground churned to mud with all the blood that had flowed through there.

Craters covered the ground wherever Taurus had landed or one of Aries’s spells hit. Broken weapons and armour lay scattered across the battlefield, discarded by those who had fallen in combat.

It was evident the Zodiacs had decimated the elves. Now, only a handful of soldiers were left standing, and they formed a circle around the three princes to protect them. But the protection didn’t mean much when Taurus was busy using them as ragdolls for target practice.

Upon reducing their numbers to such an extent, Leo and Aries left to execute their plan after invading the Church, leaving Taurus to do as he pleased. One after another, Taurus’s weapon picked them off, and they couldn’t do anything about it.

As if things couldn’t get worse for them, Adrian appeared. Vincent forced his battered self to get up when Adrian emerged from the Church. The elf didn’t know why, but the human looked different.

However, Adrian ignored them and climbed to the Church’s water reservoir.

"Cover your nose and mouth, and tell the rest to do the same," Adrian mumbled to Taurus before slashing his hands.

But he didn’t stop there. He proceeded to make several cuts in his legs and back. Everyone was stunned, wondering if Adrian had gone crazy. But then, a vast cloud of red mist spun around Adrian from his cuts.

Suddenly, the wind carried the mist to the elves. Taurus didn’t need to cover anything as he already had a mask covering his face. But it wasn’t the case for the elves.

"Cough... what is happening?" Rowan mumbled as the elves collapsed around him, one after another.

Suddenly, everyone began to cough blood while holding onto their chest. But it was only the start as they began bleeding from their eyes, noses, ears... everywhere, before dropping like flies.

Shu tried covering his mouth, but it was too late. He was already infected, and soon his vision began blackening.

"Revenge... will be waiting for you... Adrian," Shu mumbled through clenched teeth. "You will... pay for what... you did to us."

"Oh, I’ll be waiting, Shu," Adrian replied with a twisted smile. "And I’ll gladly send more of your backstabbing clan your way."

Shu wanted to curse at him, but he didn’t have the strength as his conscience faded, and he could only think about what he wanted to say.

The Monarch shall deal with you...
