Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer
Chapter 159: Secrets Revealed (1)

Chapter 159: Secrets Revealed (1)

After some time passed, the old man, whose name Adrian discovered was Bellion, sat with his hands folded across his chest, waiting for Adrian to start asking his questions.

Adrian hadn’t mentioned anything about asking questions to Bellion, who was under his control now. But it seemed that even though he was under Adrian’s influence, the assassin in Bellion was as cunning as ever.

"You’re too smart for your own good, old timer," Adrian shook his head, sitting across the table. "Had it not been for my eyes and your low magic resistance, I’d be gone for good."

"The youngun these days are too weak," Bellion scoffed. "How is it my fault?"

"Of course, it’s not," Adrian rolled his eyes before turning the conversation in the intended direction. "I know for a fact that my disguise was impeccable. Still, you knew I wasn’t Red but an impostor. How?"

Bellion smiled and pointed above. Adrian followed his hand and noticed a detail that he had missed before. The room’s ceiling was covered in a mysterious design, a constellation of sorts, carefully etched with glowing lines and symbols.

But that wasn’t all. Adrian noticed that all ’stars’ had names, and some of the spots were blank, but the name below that spot made it evident that there had been something in those places before.

One such spot had the name Red etched onto it, and Adrian understood everything he needed to.

"That’s the list of all the Ravens?" Adrian asked, still looking at the constellation above.

"Not all, only those deemed worthy of the organisation’s trust," Bellion replied. "As you might have guessed, this is how I keep track of my underlings. Once their heart stops beating, their star disappears as well. It’s quite convenient and hassle-free."

"I can see that," Adrian mumbled, thinking how stupid he had been to charge into the lion’s den without any intel. "Does anyone else know about this... list?"

Bellion shook his head and said, "It’s something I’d like to keep a secret. It wouldn’t fulfil its intended purpose if everybody knew about it. Besides me, you’re the only one who has seen it."

"What do you mean? I saw Tim entering the room. Couldn’t he have noticed it-"

"Did you notice it, Mr Analyst?" Bellion asked with a cocky smile.

Adrian wasn’t surprised that Bellion was aware of his previous class. After all, unlike some other heroes, he had never been secretive about it.

Rather than that, Adrian was more intrigued about what Bellion meant. It was true that he didn’t know the ceiling was anything special until Bellion pointed it to him.

"Invisibility enchantment," Adrian mumbled, nodding his head. "Where did you get your hands on something like that?"

Adrian ignored the system notifications and waited for Bellion’s reply. Not everyone could use enchantments, even in Nexaria, and even those who could have a tough time enchanting an entire ceiling.

"Somebody that I used to know," Bellion mumbled. "She was a Netherite, but a damn pretty one. Too bad she turned out to be a succubus who sucked all my magic resistance out of me.

She drained me for five days and nights but couldn’t finish the job. So left me in this state. Funny thing is, I’d do it all over again if I could, haha!"

"...you’re one weird geezer, that’s for sure," Adrian shook his head. "Well, it makes sense why your magic resistance was so low."

Since no one else knew about the constellations, Adrian had room to work his magic and deal with the Ravens. As nasty as these bastards were, it would be a waste to kill them all.

Moreover, since he now had one of their leaders under his influence, he could use the Ravens against the Church very well. But before all that, Adrian had a few more questions that needed to be answered.

"What did you guys do with Vesper?" Adrian asked, getting all serious.

"Delivered her to the client per their request," Bellion replied nonchalantly.

Although his attitude infuriated Adrian, he got his nerves under control. It meant what Red told him before dying was true. Vesper was with the Church, but he needed the confirmation.

"By client, do you mean the Church?"

"The Pope, to be exact. I don’t know the details, but he wanted something from her, and it also had something to do with you."

"With me? What could the Pope possibly want from me?"

Bellion shrugged. He was just as clueless as Adrian. However, he told him what he knew about the Pope. Including how many times the Pope had availed of their services.

To Adrian’s surprise, the Pope had often used the Raven’s services to deal with people standing in his way. The targets included but were not limited to, other candidates for the Pope’s position.

All of them had died of natural causes, so no one ever suspected the current Pope to be behind their deaths. Bellion was the only one who knew the truth and kept his silence in exchange for power and influence, which the Pope had promised him.

"So that’s why the Pope has been working against the heroes, undermining their authority and brainwashing the public to idolise you people?"

Bellion nodded with a smug smile. "It’s just an exchange of services. We helped him become the Pope, and now he’s helping us become the heroes Nexaria never deserved."

Adrian thought the Ravens and the Pope had some grand scheme to accomplish. But it was just a case of rotten ambitions.

"So I take it that Vesper is somewhere in the Church?"

"In the hidden cellar under the bell tower," Bellion replied. "I have a map that you can take."

"Was there a place like that in the Church?" Adrian asked, surprised that his [Analysis] skill had never picked up on something as significant as that.

"You have no idea about the secrets hiding in that centre of damnation," Bellion replied, his voice serious. "Forgive me, but that’s all I know."

Adrian nodded, processing the precious information Bellion had given him on a silver platter. But he had a final request for the Raven Guildmaster.

"Do you have some spots open in your ranks?"
