Chapter 158: Magic In The Eyes Of The Beholder

Chapter 158: Magic In The Eyes Of The Beholder

Adrian tried to pull back. But before he could react, the old man’s hand shot out, grabbing his leg with his vice grip. With little to no effort, the old man then proceeded to toss Adrian across the room.

With nothing to hold onto, Adrian flew across the room, stopping after hitting the wall on the opposite side. The cracked plaster splintered under the force of his impact, leaving Adrian dizzy and disoriented. But his troubles were yet to appear.

"Weak... that’s what you are! How dare you seek revenge on us with that pathetic strength?"

Adrian couldn’t hear the old man’s words and grabbed his head as blood trickled down. His vision turned blurry, like he was underwater. He blinked rapidly, trying to shake himself to his senses.

’That hurt...’ It was the only thought in Adrian’s head.

Groaning, Adrian struggled to get up from the floor, his muscles protesting against every move he made. Impressed by his resilience, the old man raised an eyebrow. Not a lot of people would have the guts to stand back up after what he had done to Adrian.

"You managed to crack the wall, impressive..." the old man mumbled, walking towards Adrian. "You see, it isn’t any ordinary wall. It’s made from the bones and hide of the toughest monsters Nexaria has ever encountered-"

"Cut the crap... old man..." Adrian replied, spitting out a mouthful of blood. "I’m not here for a history lesson."

"Ah, the fiery blood of the youth," the old man sighed. "Unfortunately, it looks like no one taught you how to respect the elders. Don’t worry, I’ll correct that mistake now."

"You can’t really blame them. I always had a knack for pissing off people," Adrian smiled, flipping the bird at the old man.

The old man shook his head before delivering a kick to his midsection. Adrian could hear his ribs break with a nasty crunch as he once again collided with the walls, but this time, the old man didn’t stop and kept hitting Adrian until he was gasping for air, covered in his own blood.

"Give up, boy," the old man said, his voice gruff with authority. "And I’ll give you a quick death after you have answered my questions, of course."

"Have you ever heard of the word Masochist?" Adrian tried to laugh but ended up laughing. "I might be one of them, so keep those girly hits coming."

The old man ignored his comments and instead was lost in his thoughts. Out of every opponent he had faced in his years as a Raven, Adrian was the first person to last this long without breaking.

’I know my hits are doing damage... but how’s he still talking after all I’ve done to him? It’s almost as if his wounds are healing the moment I hit him.’

The Old man was intrigued by Adrian’s seemingly endless healing abilities. But it only made him lash out more fiercely since he knew Adrian’s wound would recover no matter what he did.

But then he changed his mind. While Adrian’s physical wounds may heal, there was no guarantee that he would recover mentally, and a mentally broken man was no good for him.

"Stay down," the old man snarled once he saw Adrian trying to get up. "You cannot hope to defeat me."

"Says who?" Adrian scoffed, refusing to give up.

With a defiant growl, he pushed himself to his feet, ignoring the pain in his broken bones. After all, his blood would soon heal him, and the pain would disappear.

Adrian lunged at the man, but he sidestepped and tripped the chimaera after punching him in the face. Adrian fought back with all his strength, but it was clear that he was outmatched.

Each blow from the old man landed with the force of a dozen sledgehammers, driving Adrian further and further back into a corner.

The desperation in Adrian’s eyes was all the old man could see. He knew the doppelganger was just a push away from succumbing to the fear of death.

Adrian darted to the side, narrowly avoiding another devastating strike from the old man’s fists. But even as he tried to gain the upper hand, the old man remained one step ahead.

Even though his body kept healing the wounds, it could handle only so much. Even the unrelenting adrenaline in his blood couldn’t help Adrian. But when it seemed like all hope was lost, a glimmer of opportunity shone before his eyes.

With one of his eyes swollen shut, Adrian was mindlessly throwing punches. The old man didn’t have any difficulty dodging him. But then he heard it—the sound of his fist connecting with the old man’s jaw.

The old man stumbled backwards, caught off guard by the unexpected blow. Seizing the moment, Adrian rushed forward, raining down a flurry of punches with all the strength he could muster.

For a brief moment, victory seemed within reach. But the little spark went out just as quickly as it had begun. Within moments, the old man was on top of Adrian, beating him to a pulp.

"You should have obeyed me!" the old man yelled, but Adrian still smiled as he mumbled something. "...have you decided to give up already?"

Assuming that Adrian wanted to surrender, the old man leaned in, but it was a mistake.

"One should always beware of their surroundings in a fight," Adrian whispered, but before the old man could do anything, he bit into his ear.

The old man struggled to free himself, but it was Adrian’s turn to show the man his vice grip as he clung onto him, chewing his ears. The old man stumbled on something and fell back, with Adrian sitting on top of him now.

With his underhanded tricks, Adrian bought enough time for his eyes to heal, and once they did, the game was over for the old man. The following moment, Adrian forced the old man to look into his glowing eyes and their struggle seized.

Eventually, Adrian released his hold over the old man, watching as he collapsed beside him. Breathing heavily, he sighed in relief, his Kitsune eyes returned to normal.
