Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer -
Chapter 134: Massacre (4)
Chapter 134: Massacre (4)
Meanwhile...
The ground trembled as the Mammoroth charged into the tribal army. With each thunderous step, the earth shook beneath its massive weight. The warriors scrambled to evade its path, and the beast’s roar drowned out their shouts.
Akila managed to get away in time, but not everyone was that lucky. Mammoroth swung its mighty tusks, sending soldiers flying through the air like leaves in a storm.
Spears and arrows bounced harmlessly off its thick hide as it trampled everything in its path. Panic swept through the ranks as Banur warriors struggled to regroup and form a defence against the rampaging creature.
Akila shouted orders, trying to rally his troops against the formidable foe. But Mammoroth seemed unstoppable even though the poison had slowed it down. The creature ploughed through the army with rage-induced fit, leaving chaos and destruction in its wake.
Despite their bravery, the tribal warriors were outmatched by the sheer power of the Mammoth. They fought bravely, but it was clear the creature would overwhelm them sooner or later.
"Adrian, we can’t hold much longer!" Akila yelled as he turned around to see Adrian knocked out cold. "What the- what happened to him?"
Akila frantically looked around, but no one could have put Adrian in such a state. As much as he wanted to check up on him, he knew better than to leave the Mammoroth unchecked.
Just then, two members of the tribe rushed towards the Mammoroth. Ahuli noticed them from the corner of his eyes and yelled at them to stop, but they thought only about the glory of slaying a mammoroth.
"Retreat, damnit!" Akila yelled, but in vain.
The youngsters jumped up and climbed using the creature’s trunk, avoiding its attacks, then stabbing Mammoroth’s eyes. They looked proud as they jumped off the creature’s back, unaware of the catastrophe they had committed.
Unlike other creatures that relied on multiple senses, the Mammoroth relied heavily on its eyesight because its sense of smell and hearing were mediocre at best.
With its eyes gone, the creature went berserk, and the youngsters became the first victims of its rampage as they were crushed to death. It wasn’t the kind of snu-snu any man would want.
"Those idiots!" Akila yelled and rushed towards Adrian, who was still unconscious. "Take cover!"
While the others could save themselves, Adrian couldn’t. The rest of the Banurs noticed what Akila had in mind and disobeyed his orders. They charged toward the Mammoroth, hoping to draw its attention with loud noises.
They danced around the creature, dodging its frantically swinging trunk and tusks. Some met their demise, but they knew they’d have to put the damned creature down before it caused any more damage.
But it was easier said than done.
"They won’t be able to hold it back for long," Akila mumbled, turning towards Fenris, unsure if the creature would understand him. "Take him away. Go!"
Surprisingly, the wolf understood and took Adrian’s other hand, trying to yank him away, but it didn’t work. Akila saw what was happening and dashed to assist Adrian.
But it seemed like his hand had fused with the Queen’s body. No matter how much they tugged, his hand remained stuck to the corpse.
"What the hell is going on? Why won’t it come off?" Akila cursed under his breath.
"Because I was asleep," Adrian replied as he woke up from his slumber.
"The hell were you doing?" Akila sighed in relief. "I thought you died or something!"
"I know, I know. Doing this on the battlefield was a terrible idea, but I didn’t have a choice," Adrian replied, not elaborating on it further as he didn’t want to trigger Akila’s PTSD by mentioning Sin of Sloth.
When Adrian was about to join the fight, Sloth had something to say. He was about to dismiss it in his rage, but then she told him something that would completely alter the course of the battle ahead.
There was a reason why Vincent suddenly got so cocky and betrayed Sophia and Amelia. It was the support of a strange entity simply called the ’Observer’.
Vincent was given a particular skill from the ’Observer’ that made him almost invincible to harm. The skill wouldn’t heal him as Adrian’s blood did; it only meant he couldn’t die, no matter what happened to him. Even if someone cut off his head, he’d still be alive.
Adrian thought this power seemed too good to be true. But then, Sloth pointed out a big problem with it, and Adrian finally understood what she was trying to say. Just because Vincent couldn’t die didn’t mean he couldn’t be hurt.
But that revelation about Vincent’s new skill made Adrian wonder about the ’Observer’, and he asked Sloth about it in his ’sleep’.
However, even Sloth seemed wary of the ’Observer’ and didn’t tell Adrian much about them. She was afraid the others might not take kindly to her actions, as what she did was against the ’rules’.
’I don’t know what rules she talked about, but I’m thankful she did what she did. Otherwise, I’d probably be dead by now,’ Adrian sighed, waiting for a confirmation to appear before him.
[Integration Complete.]
[Incorporating a ’Skill’ into Chimaera physiology... Please hold on.]
[The User has obtained the active skill: Blood Poison.]
The sound of the notifications was music to his ears. Now, he wanted to deal with Vincent, but first, he had to take care of the beast, charging straight towards them.
Adrian grinned as he sliced his arm, smearing blood on the Minotaur’s sword.
"The Mammoroth sure is a good boy," he said. "Ready to try out my new skill as a test subject."
Fenris responded with a fierce growl as Adrian climbed onto her back. She shrank to gain maximum speed and raced alongside the oncoming Mammoth. Adrian gripped his blood-smeared sword tightly as they closed in on the monstrous creature.
As they drew nearer, Adrian could feel the ground trembling beneath them. Even with the spiderling’s poison coursing through its veins, there was no stopping the massive being.
’What a ferocious creature,’ Adrian mused. ’It’s deserving of its title... the King of Beasts.’
With a steady hand, Adrian guided Fenris closer to the beast, his eyes locked on his target. They were on a collision course when Adrian stood on Fenris’s back.
"Now, Fenris! Get away!" Adrian commanded, jumping off the wolf’s back.
Fenris obeyed without hesitation, veering off to a safe distance as Adrian braced himself for what was to come next. He landed on the hind legs of the raging Mammoroth, his grip tight on his sword, and used the creature’s own momentum to propel himself upwards.
With a bit of a struggle, Adrian scaled the towering beast’s back, his heart racing with adrenaline as he neared the beast’s head.
"This will sting a bit," Adrian mumbled, raising the blade over his head.
With a primal roar, Adrian plunged his sword into the back of the Mammoroth’s head, the poisoned blade sinking deep into its flesh. But once wasn’t enough, he withdrew the sword, stabbing the creature over and over.
In time, the creature staggered, and a painful scream escaped its massive jaws as Adrian’s blood venom took effect.
"Just die already!" Adrian shouted as he delivered the final blow.
With a deafening thud, the Mammoroth collapsed to the ground. It was still alive, but barely so. The poison would soon end the creature’s misery. Adrian stood triumphant atop the fallen creature, his chest heaving as he surveyed the aftermath of the battle.
"...that took a bit longer than I expected," Adrian mumbled, looking around for Vincent. "Now, where is that bastard?"
