Chapter 118: Queen Of Spiders (5)

Chapter 118: Queen Of Spiders (5)

"What do we do now!?" Sula yelled at the top of her lungs.

"The fuck am I supposed to tell you to do? If it had been just the Arachnid, we could have defeated her together," Taheton yelled. "But there are a few others of these small bastards surrounding us. Our only chance is to slip away and run as fast as we can."

"Can’t you idiots stop yelling?" Amelia yelled back before shooting three arrows simultaneously.

All three arrows hit the same smaller spider, yet it remained unaffected by the attack. Amelia’s only accomplishment was getting them more agitated.

"Their exoskeleton is tough," Amelia informed the rest, notching another arrow. "At this rate, I’ll run out of arrows before we even get a chance to fight the queen."

"...everyone get into position!" Vincent yelled, bringing out his sword. "Does anyone know healing magic other than Sophia?"

Everyone shook their heads. While Adrian could heal himself, he couldn’t heal others. But at that moment, he was worried about something else.

’Out of everything, it just had to be poisonous spiders!’ Adrian gritted his teeth in frustration.

The Troll blood in him almost made him invincible—as long as he didn’t fight poisonous creatures. Poison was one bane to his healing ability, and the situation made him wonder if karma was coming for his ass.

’...I bet those trolls would be laughing at me from the afterlife right about now.’

Adrian tore his attention away from his thoughts and towards the spiders, who by now had surrounded them.

"Fine... Sophia, get in the middle. The rest of us will protect her while she heals us, as needed," Vincent instructed the group, and surprisingly, even the tribals obeyed. "Tankers, get in front of the Queen. The rest of us would have to defend against the spiderlings ourselves."

Adrian didn’t care much about Vincent, but he had to admit that Vincent’s ability to make good decisions in challenging situations had always impressed him.

However, the group was too slow in their approach and Marcus got bit by one of the spiders in the leg.

"Argh! Fucking critter!" Marcus cursed before trying to smash the creature with his shield, but the spider jumped back. No harm was done to it.

"Damn it! They’re too fast!" Clara shouted. "None of my attacks are working!"

Blood poured out of Marcus’s leg. The spider had bit into a major vein. Vincent raced towards him and pulled him back using one of his arms while he swung the sword with the other.

He dragged him back to the centre, where Sophia was busy firing spells at the creatures, hoping to weaken them while the Queen wasn’t attacking them.

"Sophia! Need a hand here!" Vincent yelled, grabbing her attention.

"On it!" Sophia replied before analysing Marcus’s wound. "I can heal the wound, but the poison-"

"Use this antidote," Amelia intervened, tossing Sophia a vial. "I only got two more, but the antidote should give us immunity for an hour."

Once again, the elf got busy shooting arrows, trying to find a weakness. But the arrows had little to no effect. Usually, the distance would work in Amelia’s favour, but this time, it was against her.

The arrows were only effective when the creatures were closer to her, and the creatures understood this and maintained their distance from Amelia. They stopped attacking her and focused on the others, who were more vulnerable.

"Give me an antidote!" Vincent yelled.

"You’re not injured-" Amelia tried to argue, but Vincent had none of it.

"Do you expect me to wait till I get injured? Give it to me, and it’s an order!"

Amelia sighed before obeying. As annoying as he was, Vincent was still a ’prince’, and she couldn’t reject his request without facing consequences later.

Watching the exchange, Adrian couldn’t help but shake his head. Vincent was as selfish as ever, always thinking about himself first.

’No wonder the king chose Rowan as his successor,’ Adrian thought. ’Forget about him. I should think of a way to get rid of these creatures first.’

It didn’t take long for Adrian to realise the creatures were like a pack of scavengers. Their teamwork and strategy quickly managed to overwhelm and injure Marcus at the start of the fight.

As lazy as Marcus was, he was still a level 91 tank. While he wasn’t the only tank, as Sula was still holding the lines, he was by far the most capable one.

Sula was trying her best, but if the creatures managed to overwhelm someone like Marcus, what chance did she have against them?

They were completely trapped. The Queen covered the front, while the other side was blocked off by the spiderlings. One of them was injured, thanks to Adrian and Taheton, but the other three were unscathed.

"No way out," Amelia whispered, fending off a spiderling with her bow.

"Yeah..." Adrian whispered back in a hoarse voice.

Amelia then nodded towards the injured spiderling, "Don’t think it’ll attack us aggressively anymore. Breaking through that direction would be our best shot-"

"There’s no point," Adrian replied, looking at the Queen guarding the exit. "That’s our only path to freedom, and I don’t think it’ll let us pass just because we ask politely."

"Then what do we do?"

"I have a plan," Adrian replied with a confident smile, something he always used to do back when they did quests together.

It had been a long time since Amelia had seen that smile, but it was reassuring. After all, Adrian had never failed to deliver when he had that smile on his face.

"I’ll trust you with this then," Amelia nodded and returned to shoting arrows.

However, unbeknownst to them, trouble was brewing within the group. Taheton, realising Milka’s back was towards him, decided to make a move to end the arrogant brat.

"I told you, you’ll pay!" he yelled before pushing Adrian towards the Queen.

However, his half-baked plan backfired on Taheton as Adrian ducked, making Taheton trip and fall right before the Queen. The tribals looked up in fear and saw death staring back at him.

"...no, N-NO! ARGH!"

The Queen didn’t waste any time devouring Taheton. But it gave the rest enough time to run past her.

"GO! GO! GO!" Adrian yelled, forgetting his act of being mute and charged ahead.
