Chapter 108: Fenris (1)

Adrian fearlessly charged towards the beast, who wasted no time replying in kind. Everyone who saw Adrian’s attack couldn’t help but question his sanity, wondering if the head injury he suffered turned him into a moron. Who, in their right mind, would dare to challenge the Commander Wolf head-on?

"Don’t fight him at such close range!" Suhi yelled, but Adrian ignored his cries.

The next moment, Adrian and the wolf collided, and a cloud of dust erupted, covering them. The tribals didn’t need a clear vision to know who had won. There was no chance Adrian would have done any damage to the beast like that.

However, they were in for a shock when they heard the wolf groaning. One of Adrian’s shoulders was bent out of shape, but the wolf had suffered most of the damage and kept whimpering.

"Impossible..." Skaha mumbled when he realised what happened.

Instead of facing the beast head first, Adrian fooled the creature before striking her with Ahuli’s staff from the underside, which was the beast’s weakest point. He must have slid under the beast when she leapt to attack Adrian and hit her with a staff in the chest.

Everyone was in awe, but there were none more surprised than Ahuli, who couldn’t believe his eyes. Milka could have been strong, but fearlessly attacking the wolf and not being affected by it was weird.

’Did I underestimate the kid?’ Ahuli thought as Adrian popped his shoulder back in place as if it was nothing special.

But in truth, Adrian had been lucky. His injuries would have been much worse without the [Nemean blessing]. Now that the effect was on cooldown, he knew he had to end the fight quickly.

Adrian noticed the wolf staggering because of their brief collision and knew he had to take the chance. He dug his feet into the sand before jumping and kicking the Commander Wolf with all his might.

The kick hit the beast right in the face, sending it tumbling to the other side of the small fenced area.

"What the hell?"

"Was Milka always this strong?"

"If he were, it would explain how he survived in the forest on his own..."

The tribals began speculating theories shrouding Milka’s survival, thinking mere luck couldn’t have led to his survival. The deadbeat of the tribe was suddenly getting some acknowledgement, and Suhi couldn’t be happier. However, the danger was still hovering over his son’s head.

But Milka’s sudden revelation of strength wasn’t the only thing they were talking about. A few of them were also wondering if there was something wrong with Ahuli.

After all, Ahuli was known to be stronger than Milka, yet the deadbeat performed better than their Chieftain. However, knowing that Ahuli could hear them, they quickly hushed themselves.

They were right, and Ahuli heard them. But he also knew that every word they said was true. So, instead of yelling at them to shut up, he yelled at them to bring the healer to him.

"Where is the damned healer!?" Ahuli yelled at the top of his lungs, and two more people rushed to check.

While everyone was distracted, Ahuli glared at the Commander Wolf. He was pissed at it for not attacking Milka as it assaulted him. In his eyes, the damned beast was going easier on the deadbeat.

’I have to tame it... I have to!’ Ahuli gritted his teeth.

If the tribals were already gossiping about him, he couldn’t help but wonder what they’d do if Milka managed to tame the beast.

Ahuli’s worries weren’t unfounded, either. His position as the tribe’s Chieftain was often questioned. After all, unlike Skaha or those who came before them, he hadn’t ’proved’ himself worthy of being the Chief and was simply given the position.

Taming Commander Wolf was meant to seal his position as Chieftain. But now, even that was slipping away right before his eyes—all because he had gotten careless in front of the beast and underestimated it.

Ahuli tried getting up, but his legs gave away, and he collapsed. He punched the ground in frustration when he felt Skaha’s hand on his shoulder.

"Rest first," he whispered. "Getting angry won’t solve your problems. Besides, there’ll be plenty of opportunities in the future. You can tame an even better monster then."

Ahuli took a deep breath and nodded. But even then, he knew it was all for nothing. He wanted the beast before him, but Skaha’s words made him realise that sometimes things were not supposed to go how they desired.

But nobody else understood that the Sin of Pride had stopped messing with Ahuli’s feelings because he had grown tired of toying with him. After all, what was the point in playing with someone who couldn’t even walk, let alone fight?

With the false sense of pride gone, Ahuli calmed down and even began appreciating Milka for saving him. As Ahuli pondered more about the situation, he realised that Milka having the beast might actually turn out alright.

’If I let him join my private squad of riders, both Milka and the wolf would follow my orders,’ Ahuli thought. ’It would boost Milka’s standing in the tribe while securing my position as the chieftain.’

He looked up and noticed Milka sitting on top of the wolf and punching it senselessly. It was the first time he had seen anyone tame a beast in such a ferocious manner.

What surprised him even more was that the method was working. The wolf fought back, slashing and biting the human. However, Adrian didn’t seem to mind the attacks and instead kept his focus on hitting the damn creature.

Everyone was speechless. But they didn’t know that by then, Adrian had used [Illusionary Eyes] on the beast. However, the control wasn’t perfect, and that’s why Adrian was beating the living crap out of the wolf so he could assume complete control over the creature.

"What the hell?" Skaha exclaimed in shock, noticing the beast’s posture.

The beast stopped struggling and lowered its head, a gesture of surrender common among direwolves. Adrian saw this and stopped hitting her. Instead, he reached out his hand to her and then, to everyone’s surprise, the wolf licked Adrian’s hand before wagging her tail like a dog.
