Chapter 146: Let Me Find You A Beauty!
Evander’s POV
"The only person I have ever felt... whole around. So please, don’t think for a second that you have caused me pain." I said in a firm tone.
Yes, I was hurt before thinking that she had left me when I was at my most vulnerable state, but after knowing the truth, I was the culprit here.
Tears welled in her eyes, and she looked away, trying to hide them. But I gently cupped her chin, guiding her gaze back to mine. "You are everything to me, Claire," I said, my voice raw with emotion.
She didn’t respond with words. Instead, she stepped closer, her arms wrapping around me in a tight embrace. I froze for a moment, the warmth of her body against mine soothing and torturous at the same time.
"I am not leaving you," she murmured against my chest, her voice muffled but resolute.
My heart ached at her stubbornness. I wanted to push her away for her own safety, to shield her from the mess that I was, but her words— her presence— made it impossible.
"You don’t know what you are doing to me," I said, my voice barely above a whisper as I rested my forehead against hers. "I am trying so hard to hold myself back, Claire."
"Then don’t," she said softly, her breath brushing against my lips.
Her words shattered the last bit of restraint I had left. Before I could think twice, my lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that consumed me entirely. My hands found her waist as I pushed her gently but firmly against the wall.
Every nerve in my body screamed that this was wrong, that I should stop, but I couldn’t. My mind was lost, overwhelmed by the electric pull of her presence. I kissed her deeply, my hands roaming over her back, memorizing every curve. The restraint I had fought so hard to maintain had finally broken, leaving nothing but raw desire that I had.
But just as I surrendered to the moment, reality struck back in the form of a harsh, unwelcome sound.
The doorbell rang.
Claire pulled away from the kiss abruptly, her wide, frightened eyes locking with mine. Her breath came in short, uneven bursts, and she clung to me tightly, her arms trembling as they wrapped around my shoulders.
I exhaled sharply, forcing myself to calm down as I hugged her back, my hand gently stroking her hair. "Calm down," I murmured softly, trying to soothe her. "It must be the doctor."
Her grip on me loosened slightly, but I could still feel her unease. "Are you sure?" she whispered, her voice tinged with fear and embarrassment.
I nodded, pulling away just enough to look at her. "Yes, I am sure," I reassured her, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. "You should get changed. I will go get the door."
She hesitated for a moment, her eyes searching mine for something. She seemed still scared by the incident earlier. Then, with a small nod, she stepped back, her gaze lowering as she quickly made her way toward the changing room.
I turned toward the door, taking a deep breath to steady myself. My body was still buzzing from the heat of our moment, but I forced those feelings down, focusing on the immediate task at hand.
To heal myself, I needed to rely on my own strength. I couldn’t use Claire as a means to expel the effects of the drug. It wasn’t fair to her, and deep down, I knew it wasn’t right.
Even if there came a day when we shared such intimate moments, I wanted it to be because we were both ready, clear-headed, and willing... not driven by force or circumstances beyond our control.
She deserved better than that. I would never do anything that would harm her.
I opened the door to find the doctor standing there, his expression calm and professional. "Good evening, I am here to check on you, Evander," he said, holding up his medical bag.
"You should have arrived earlier," I replied, stepping aside to let him in. My voice sounded steadier than I felt, but I was grateful for the distraction.
As he entered, I couldn’t help but glance back toward the closed bathroom door, where Claire was no doubt trying to compose herself.
Little did she know, I was doing the exact same thing.
I had already dried myself and changed into a robe. My body was still burning as I made my way to the bed and lay down, trying to ignore the relentless heat coursing through me.
Caspian, my so-called friend and doctor, walked in, his brows furrowed in concern as he checked my vitals. "Dude, you’ve been drugged heavily with aphrodisiac," he said, his voice laced with shock.
I shot him a sharp glare, gritting my teeth. "Do you think I don’t know that? Just treat me, or I’ll die of this damn heat and high blood pressure!"
Caspian’s lips curled into an infuriating grin as he prepared an injection. "Really? Why not let me introduce you to a hot and sexy girl to calm you down? Might be faster than the meds."
"Caspian!" I growled, sitting up straight despite the pounding in my head. "Do you want to die?"
"What’s wrong with that?" he teased, clearly enjoying my misery. "You’re single and suffering! Isn’t it good to have some company? Maybe she could—"
Before he could finish his ridiculous suggestion, the door to the bathroom creaked open, and Claire stepped out.
She was wearing a simple yet elegant dress provided by the hotel, one that hugged her figure just enough to leave me breathless. Her damp hair framed her face, and though her expression was calm, I could see a hint of worry in her eyes.
"Woah!" Caspian gasped as he looked at Claire. "You already have such a beauty by your side! Now I can tell why you were able to hold on for so long!"
