Chapter 103: Was It You!?

Claire’s POV

I was just as furious as Evander, but I knew one of us needed to keep a cool head. If we both gave in to our anger, we would lose the upper hand. I clenched my fists at my sides, trying to steady my breathing. Gloria had to face us—and when she did, I already had a plan to put her down.

The sound of heels clicking on the floor signaled her arrival. There she was, as arrogant and composed as ever, walking toward us with authority as she was here for the war.

But this time, she was stepping right into my trap.

I took a deep breath and softened my expression, allowing tears to well up in my eyes. Without hesitation, I reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling her attention squarely on me. I sank to my knees with a dramatic thud, letting out a heart-wrenching sob.

"Mother, I..." My voice broke, trembling with carefully measured pain. "I am in so much pain!" Tears streamed down my face as I clung to her hand, forcing her to acknowledge me.

Gloria’s expression faltered for a moment, a flicker of confusion crossing her cold features. She clearly wasn’t expecting this.

"Our son... he is missing!" I cried, my voice rising in desperation as I locked eyes with her. "They told me someone took him away! Please, help me!" My words were a plea, dripping with anguish and fear— the perfect performance for the audience she didn’t know she had behind her.

For the first time, Gloria seemed unsure how to react. Her sharp gaze darted around as if she were trying to come up with something against me. She had always known me as someone meek, someone who crumbled in her presence. But now I was meeting her eyes head-on, showing her a strength she didn’t expect.

Of course, I didn’t expect that too! However, having Evander by my side, I was feeling immense strength and courage.

Her hand twitched in mine, but I didn’t let go. I squeezed tighter, using her shock to my advantage. "Mother," I whispered, letting a fresh wave of tears fall. "I can’t lose my son. Please... don’t let them take him from me."

In her confusion, Gloria hesitated, unable to decide whether to pull away or play along. She didn’t realize that my pain wasn’t just for show— my sorrow was real, but this time, I was wielding it as a weapon.

I stared into her eyes, silently daring her to admit what she had done. She didn’t know it yet, but I wasn’t going to let her take anything from me— not my son, not my husband and not my dignity.

This was the beginning of the end for her, and I intended to make sure she knew it.

"Claire," Evander’s deep voice called out softly as he placed a firm hand on my shoulder. He helped me to my feet and pulled me into a side embrace, his arms steadying me as I leaned against him. His warmth provided a moment of comfort, but my tears were real—raw and draining my body in real-time.

Evander must have felt my body trembling because his hold tightened protectively. "Mother!" he snapped, his tone sharp and cutting like a blade. "I am warning you—if you had any part in taking my son away from me, I won’t let you get away with it!"

His words echoed through the hall, firm and unyielding. The ice in his voice sent a chill even through me, but this wasn’t what I wanted. I needed him to stay calm and take a measured step. Yet I knew his anger could serve its purpose, too. One of us had to show restraint while the other showed strength.

Before Gloria could respond, a woman stepped forward from behind her. She looked stern, her posture rigid, her gaze scrutinizing the scene before her.

"What’s going on here?" She asked sharply, her voice filled with authority.

I turned my tear-streaked face toward Gloria, giving her a vulnerable yet accusatory look. "Who is she, Mother?" I asked, my voice soft but laced with sorrow.

Gloria hesitated for a moment, clearly caught off guard. She glanced at the woman and then back at me. I could see her composure wavering a little.

The woman folded her arms, her eyes narrowing slightly. "I am part of the NGO your mother supports," she stated firmly. "We were informed that the child in question was being neglected and needed to be removed for his safety."

Her words hit me like a brick. It was Gloria who almost had him killed, but I held my ground. "Neglected?" I repeated, my voice cracking as I let the disbelief and pain show. "How could you even say that? Eliam is our whole world! Who would tell you such a thing?"

The woman’s gaze flicked toward Gloria, but she said nothing, her silence telling me everything I needed to know.

"Mother! Don’t tell me it was you!" I said again, my voice trembling but my eyes holding hers. "How could you do this? How could you even think of taking my son away from me? Was it not enough to torture us and split us apart? Now, you want to take our son away from me?"

Evander stiffened beside me, his hand gripping my shoulder as if to steady both of us. "You think you can play games with us, Mother?" he asked, his voice dangerously low. "If you think for a second that you will win this, you are mistaken."

Gloria’s lips pressed into a thin line, her eyes darting to the woman from the NGO. "I only wanted what was best for my grandson," she said finally, her tone defensive.

But her excuse wasn’t enough to shield her from the storm brewing in Evander’s eyes—or the quiet determination now building in me.

"You wanted the best for my son?!" Evander scoffed as his eyes turned blazing red. "You are...
