Sprinting towards the handsome doctor who was busy unlocking his car, Tori patted his shoulder and watched him turn.

"Excuse me, do I know you? Dr. Jaden asked as soon as he saw a beautiful young lady standing behind him.

Dr. Jaden was in his late thirties and was finding a potential partner for himself. The moment his eyes fell on the girl, his eyes shined with hope. But before he could raise his hopes higher, Tori passed him a forceful smile before she knocked him down, striking his carotid sinus with one swift move.

"Can’t you wait for me" Max who watched the man collapse on the ground after Tori hit him, rushed towards her side and checked the man if he was still breathing.

Once he was assured that the man was breathing and had just passed out, Max finally looked up and said," Let’s get him to the car..." his words died in his throat when he watched her ignore his commands and leave letting him deal with the man on the floor.

"He is too heavy for me to carry" she yelped and hopped into the car with her eyes looking ahead.

Max on the other hand could only sigh at her provoking manner. "Argh..." yelling at himself he then kneeled and picked up the man carrying his limp body on his back and rushed towards their car.

Luckily the basement was empty with no people around and they found it quite easy to bring the man along.

Shoving the man into the backseat of the car, Max hopped into the driver’s seat before shooting a glare at the girl sitting next to him.

Tori didn’t spare a glance in his direction for once but the moment she heard him speak, her head eventually turned to her right.

" Stupid girl" he mumbled under his nose as he buckled his seatbelt and turned his head ahead. He was about to start the car when Tori cut in.

"Whom did you call stupid girl?" she asked, now entirely turning towards him. Her brows arched in defense as she watched him snarl.

"Of course you. Is there any other girl with us" Max rolled his eyes once again irking her to the point that she flared her nose in anger.

"You’ve started to annoy me, Max. How can you call me stupid when I am doing my job perfectly" she snapped only to watch him heave out a chuckle at her.

"Then what should I call you smart? Oh.. how can I even call you anything when you no longer need my advice, after you are an independent girl now who wants to finish her job of finding her sister and leave this place once and for all" Max was highly pissed by her arrogant nature, she was getting on his nerves.

Was it only he who had seen how the man looked at her or was it that she was blind not to sense anything strange about his looks?

Tori gaped at his outburst as she opened her mouth to fight him back but words didn’t seem to leave her mouth. It was as if his each and every word stabbed her heart making her feel the pain he held within himself as he spat those harsh words out.

Tears welled her eyes but she blinked them off and looked away. She just couldn’t face him. His words, his behavior were hurting her. Ignoring him was the only option left for her.

Max on the other hand was surprised when he noticed those unshed tears welling in her eyes but she quickly hide them and turned her face away.

It was then he realized how far he had gone with his way of hurting her. His mouth parted a little as he tried to speak but he couldn’t. The way she was now ignoring him only made him withdraw his attention from her.

Taking a few deep breaths he tried to normalize himself. He didn’t want to get affected by her anymore or else he would end up making a fool out of himself.

Once he was back to his regular aloofness, Max started the car and they soon drove out from the basement parking lot.

In no time their car reached the base and a few men carried the unconscious doctor into the cell.

Tori then stepped out of the car and was about to walk away when suddenly Max stopped her. "I’m sorry for... whatever I said earlier"

Throughout the ride, he never saw Tori looking at him. All she did was stare outside the window. He might have convinced himself to not get bothered by her, but his heart... it couldn’t stop feeling bad.

Tori halted her steps and turn to look at the man who slowly tailed her from behind.

"What is it that you are upset about Max? Have I done something wrong to irk your mood?" Tori was purposely trying to push his buttons, wanting him to spill his feeling for her.

Max was flabbergasted by her words and fell rendered speechless. He knew he had been venting all of his anger out on her and why not when she was the reason why ended up botting up this much hatred.

Because of her words, he had been going mad the entire time and only his work was keeping him sane making him forget that she would leave them... him once get finds her sister.

"Tell me.. why are you so cold towards me Max? Is it because I am not following your words or is it that you have come to hate me so much that you can’t even stand the sight of me?" she snapped raising her voice loud enough to shut him down as she walked and stood in front of him.

Her eyes looked straight into his and for a moment he saw the pain cross through them.

The ferocity marred all over her face vanished and she gasped watching him tear up.

Max had never shed a tear in front of anyone, not even when his father died while saving Gabriel’s father. He was trained to be a merciless man who would only obey his boss’s orders following his father’s lineage of being devoted to the Moore.
