Chapter 379: Playing dumb

Sprinting out of the dressing room Tristan made his way towards his car and stepped in.

"To the office," he said maintaining his composure but deep inside his heart, he felt like his entire world had shaken up.

After Ashley threw him out of the changing room after witnessing the hickey he gave her, she didn’t find any good in asking him to stay with her for the entire day and asked him to leave before she burst all her anger on him. Left with no other choice he did what she said.

Tristan knew he had irked Ashley to the point that now he had to find ways to get closer to her.

Giving her a mark without her consent was something Ashley never appreciated and it even got worst knowing how many of the people around her must’ve noticed it.

’I am surely in trouble’ he emphasized mentally suddenly feeling hot.

Sliding down the car window Tristan decided to take in the fresh air whilst his eyes watched the views they passed by.

After about forty minutes of driving, they finally reached the Skylar Corps and Tristan stepped out of his car, making his way into the huge building.

Since it was informed that the CEO wasn’t going to come, Tristan’s sudden visit took everyone by surprise especially Karl who had no clue about it.

Sprinting into the CEO’s cabin where he saw Tristan busy working, he sighed. "Boss is there anything I can help you with," he asked quickly standing in front of his desk.

Karl had been too worked up thinking about what was wrong with Gwen and why she suddenly left the office without informing him. If not for one of the employees who asked her where was she going and that too urgently, he wouldn’t have found that she returned home.

Tristan arched his brow as he watched Karl who didn’t look so good, slowly leaned back and examined his appearance properly.

’Should I ask him’ he thought, but quickly brushed off his thoughts recalling what Ashley said to him.

After a minute of scrutinizing, Tristan finally opened his mouth to speak," Yes Karl reschedule all of my afternoon meetings. I would be attending them"

Karl’s mouth parted a little in surprise but he quickly shut it back and bobbed his head in agreement before he turned to leave.

"And also send Gwen. I have to discuss something with her" Tristan spoke very casually but his words instantly halted Karl’s footsteps.

He swiftly turned to look at Tristan with confusion with his brows furrowed a little. ’Doesn’t he knows about it’ he thought and by now he fully turned around, facing him.

Tristan purposely bought this topic even though he knew where Gwen was but since his heart wasn’t ready to let this blunder slip, he decided to act as if he wasn’t aware of anything.

’Sorry Ash, but I couldn’t resist’ he apologize mentally to his wife as he keenly watched Karl who appeared to be a little confused by his words.

"Didn’t she call you before taking a leave?" Karl asked as his eyes carefully scrutinized Tristan.

’Damn...’

Tristan fell like someone splash a bucket full of cold water on him. It was true that his assistant had to seek him to grant them an emergency leave as they were the most important people in the welfare of the CEO’s duties.

Without him permitting anything they couldn’t even take a decision of their own.

"No, she didn’t. Isn’t she in the office?" Tristan played dumb but something about that dumbness didn’t make Karl believe him.

Knowing how Tristan had a weird way of getting out things from anyone’s mouth, Karl had no choice but to brush off his act and play along.

"No, she took a leave" he answered nonchalantly.

"But why?’ came his quick question and that made Karl twitch his lips in annoyance.

’This man... I know he is aware of Gwen’s whereabouts yet he is pestering me. Can’t he realize that I’ve already caught him’ Karl snarled mentally.

"I. don’t. know. boss" This time he made him aware that his lame, playing dumb act was bothering him as he gnashed his teeth in return.

Tristan who noticed the sullenness on Karl’s face mentally facepalmed himself. ’Oho... I think he caught me’

"Okay then get going with the things I ask from you" Tristan forced an awkward smile and watched Karl take his leave not before giving him a murderous glare.

If they weren’t currently inside the office, Karl would’ve switched to his friend mode and have started interrogating him instead.

Once Karl was out of Tristan’s cabin, the scowl on his face dimmed and suddenly he started missing Gwen.

’What if Tristan too didn’t know why Gwen left the office’ he now started to doubt his own confirmation.

Uneasiness began to surge in his heart and he shook his head denying every uncertainty. ’He had to finish off his work and meet Gwen as soon as possible’ With this thought he walked away from there following his boss’s words.

Meanwhile, both Tori and Max had finally reached the hospital. They decided to pick up the man from the parking lot without getting caught in action.

Though the place had security cameras, Max had already hacked the system even without anyone’s knowledge.

"How long will he take to come out" Tori scowled getting impatient sitting inside the car doing nothing.

Max who had his eyes fixed on his laptop screen, shot a glance at her. She had been acting strange since the moment she had come to the base and it made him wonder what was wrong with her.

"It was the only reason why I wanted to do this mission on my own. You are always impatient" Max snarled looking away. He couldn’t let his mind wander back thinking of what was going on with her.

He had to take a break from his feeling for her.

Tori was once again surprised at how rudely Max commented on her words when he could’ve normally said so.

Rolling her eyes she decided to ignore his words. She didn’t want to argue more with him when he had already accepted that he hated her, even though it was indirect but she finally got to answer.

Her eyes wandered around the vast parking lot inside the hospital basement before she looked at the door of one of the exits open and watched Dr. Jaden step out and he headed towards his car.

"He is here" Tori squealed making Max look outside in the direction where he watched the man stand in front of his car.

"Stay here and monitor the surveillance" Max ordered only to get a furrowed look from Tori before she snapped, "And why would I follow your orders? Boss wants me to contribute equally"

Tori was now trying to pick a fight. She was so annoyed by his ignorance and coldness that now she started to irk him, objecting to his every order.

And before Max could speak a word to stop her, Tori flung open the car’s door and dashed out leaving Max in utter shock.

".... What was that?"
