Chapter 147: We both love each other
On the way to the mansion, Gwen texted everyone to gather in the main hall without specifying why.
It didn’t take them too long when they finally reached their destination. Stopping the car right in front of the Knight mansion, Karl closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths.
Opening his eyes, he looked at Gwen, who passed him an assuring smile, which boosted his courage even more.
Stepping out of the car, Karl held Gwen’s hand firmly, and they both entered the house.
As soon as they stepped in, they first noticed everyone’s eyes gawking at them in anger. Apart from half-sleeping Gavin, everyone was wide awake and patiently waiting for their arrival.
Karl felt his confidence decline slowly, but he kept his face neutral, not showing his inner torment. He didn’t want to disappoint Gwen this time. He had to speak no matter what came after that.
He looked at them one by one, but when he met Tristan’s eyes, they looked at him with amusement rather than anger which took him by surprise.
"Gwen... did you go on a date with Luke. Then why is Karl with you and.... why are you both holding hands" Grace asked, putting on a straight face.
She had almost believed that Gwen was genuinely looking forward to going on a date with Luke, but she was wrong. Didn’t she already say Gwen kept changing her mind now and then?
"Mom..." Gwen opened her mouth to answer her mother but stopped when she felt Karl squeeze her hand gently.
"Aunty. I know this will shock you all, but we both love each other, and I won’t allow Gwen to date someone else if it’s not me" Karl finally mustered up the courage and declared his love openly in front of her family members.
Gavin, who was sleeping, jolted up when he heard Karl’s words. "Did he confess?" he asked, shaking his head and opening his eyes wide.
"If you both are done. Can we both go and sleep" Tristan slammed his hand on either side and stood up.
Karl was shocked by his calm demeanor. He watched his hand in the pocket and looked at them lazily.
Was he hallucinating? Karl thought as he saw no one reacting to his declaration.
Standing on his feet cluelessly, Karl watched Tristan walk away, taking Ashley with him. He took a step upstairs but stopped and turned to look at Karl.
"Karl, before making a call, you should check the name," his words confused Karl even more when suddenly it finally struck.
Everything flooded his mind, and he stood there like a statue. He remembered everything he had done after returning home.
"No way..." he muttered as he looked at Tristan in horror.
Gwen, who had no clue what Tristan was referring to, let go of Karl’s hand and dashed to her parents.
"Mom, dad say something" she kneeled in front of Grace to get some reaction.
"What do you want us to say when we already know you love each other" Gwen fell to the ground looking at her parents in disbelief.
"Y-you already know?" she asked, watching them simultaneously.
Karl, already in shock, received another bolt listening to Grace’s words. He turned his head to look at the calm lady. There wasn’t a trace of disappointment on her face.
As soon as their eyes met, Grace motioned him to come forward. Karl walked and kneeled next to Gwen as if his body got its strength back.
He lowered his head, not ready to look at them. When he lost his parents, Trevor and Grace took that position fulfilling his every need and never letting him feel unwanted.
He wasn’t blood-related to them, but they took care of him as their child, but when he realized he had fallen for their daughter, he felt like he was betraying them.
Gwen was only ten when he moved in with the Knights. She used to tail behind him, asking him to play with her. She kept nagging him, calling him brother Karl sticking to him like a koala because she found him too attractive, and not allowing any of her girlfriends to play with him.
As time went by, Tristan and Karl had to leave for higher studies along with Noah, who also wanted to study business but in programming. And when they returned, Gwen and Gavin had grown up, and suddenly he realized that she didn’t call him brother.
Karl was just as intelligent as Tristan, but he decided to take his father’s position assisting Tristan after he replaced Trevor. He even moved back into his old house, renovated the place, and started living there.
Grace smiled, looking at the obedient kid. He was still that shy boy she had met years back.
"Look at me, Karl," she said and saw him slowly lifting his head. His eyes were filled with tears.
"When we took you with us, that didn’t mean we were doing a favor to you. They say you stepped into our life. I took you as my child. We never took you as someone who didn’t belong to us. Then how can you think we would object to your relationship with Gwen."
"Did you trust us enough that you even went to let go of your feeling for her?" she said sadly.
Karl shook his head and let his tears fall." No, aunty, don’t say that, please. I was just scared that I would disappoint you if I agreed to date, Gwen."
"You never disappointed us, Karl, because we knew you weren’t someone who liked to play with people’s sentiments. You cared for them genuinely" this time, Trevor spoke.
Karl was just like his father when it came to loyalty, and when he found that he had fallen for Gwen, he started questioning his commitment to those who took him under their shelter.
"You shouldn’t retreat from your feeling Karl because you don’t owe us anything. You were never in debt because we accepted you with all our hearts and didn’t do it out of favor," Trevor concluded.
Karl covered his face as he wept his heart out. Finding the boy crying like a baby, Grace hugged him comforting him like a mother hen.
Trevor smiled and motioned Gwen to come and sit next to him. Watching her parents agree on their relationship, Gwen quickly stood up and sat beside Trevor, hugging him tightly.
"I love you, dad," she said.
"What about me?" Grace asked as she still comforted Karl.
"I love you too, mom" she passed her little heart easing the atmosphere around them.
"She looks so happy," Ashley said, looking at Gwen’s smiling face.
"Yes, she does," Tristan agreed as they watched them smiling from the top floor.
Taking a final glance, they both headed back to their room.
Ashley walked in first, heading straight to the bed and laying down on the bed. She turned to the other side, pulled up the duvet, and quickly closed her eyes.
Tristan smirked, observing his sneaky wife join her in bed and move closer, hugging her from behind.
"Are you trying to avoid me, wifey" his hot breath fan on her ear, and she gulped.
They were in the middle of kissing when Tristan received Gwen’s text. He wanted to ignore it, but when Ashley received the text, she thought of it as something essential, and they had to stop.
"It’s late, Tristan. I’m sleepy-" Ashley gasped when Tristan cupped her breast, and he squeezed it lightly, heaving out a moan from her mouth.
She couldn’t even finish her sentence when he started nibbling her earlobe, making it hard for her to resist.
"Tristan... " she called out his name, but the man had turned deaf as he completely ignored her word.
"Tristan, please... we have to go to the hospital tomorrow" as soon as the words left her mouth, Tristan halted.
He forgot that she had a wound on her hand, which was yet to be confirmed or healed by the doctor.
"Argh!!" growling, Tristan buried his neck in the crook of her neck and sighed. His hand that cupped her breast loosened as he slowly bought it down her stomach.
"I think we should just sleep" Ashley pursed her lips, trying to fight the smile.
’Ow, my poor hubby. I promise once the doctor confirms that my wound has healed, I will satisfy you the entire night,’ she said in her mind with determination and slowly closed her eyes, falling deep into sleep.
