Chapter 69: Her Real Identity
Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Her Real Identity
Not that Alex was bothered by his father.
Ever since he was a legal adult, he had been using all his saved-up money to invest, start a few businesses and more. He inherited his father’s savvy business mind. So, when he dated Eve for five years, he had accumulated almost a hundred million dollars worth of assets under his name.
His father had no say in what he should do with his money, not when he had proven his capability from a young age.
Ding!
Alex stepped out of the elevator and was greeted by Miranda—his father’s secretary in her forties. This woman had practically watched him grow from a mischievous kid to a capable man.
So, Alex knew that Miranda was one of the people he could trust around his father.
"Young Master, your father has been waiting for you in the CEO’s office," Miranda informed politely after a slight bow. "Don’t worry, it’s only him inside. I’ve made sure that the acting CEO wouldn’t interfere."
"Mm, thanks," Alex nodded.
The Langford Diamond still had an acting CEO for now, because Hugh still didn’t trust Alex enough to be the CEO, so he put a placeholder until he believed that Alex was mature and capable enough to take control.
However, the acting CEO was nothing but a doll. He was scared of both Hugh and Alexander Langford. Considering that Hugh was old, and Alex was the soon-to-be patriarch of the Langfords, he listened to Alex more.
Alex walked into the CEO’s office followed by Miranda. He greeted his father sitting on the long sofa, sipping his coffee before lighting up his cigarette.
Alex frowned seeing this. His father had a few health problems due to his smoking and drinking habits. The doctors had told him to live a healthier lifestyle, but it seemed that Hugh simply wanted to die without regret.
Despite having a strained relationship with his father, Alex still had a tiny bit of filial feeling for him, so he commented, "You’re going on the highway to hell, huh? Smoking those cigars nonstop."
Hugh scoffed. He smoked the cigar and puffed the smoke out, "Why should I be bothered with that? I have lived a long, glorious life, and I have a capable heir in case I die tomorrow."
"You called me stupid two days ago during the family function. Are you changing your mind then?"
"Both can go hand-in-hand. You’re a capable businessman and leader," Hugh glanced at his son and added, "But you’re also a stupid man who can’t control his emotions."
"Spending ten million for a woman who’s just pretty is not something a smart businessman and leader would do," Hugh commented. "Even if it’s your own money, it wouldn’t take long until you’re drained empty by that woman. How could I rest and hand all of our family fortunes to you, when you have no self-control?"
"Ten million is nothing for me, and it’s to protect her. I’d say getting a kiss on the cheek from her is a money well-spent," Alex doubled down instead of listening to his father.
Hugh’s chest rose up and down as he suppressed his anger at his shameless son. He was trying to open his stupid son’s eyes, but it seemed his effort was doomed to be in vain.
"Miranda, the document," Hugh glanced at his secretary and nudged his head towards his son.
Miranda nodded and handed a document to the Young Master.
"What’s this?" Alex asked before he opened it.
"It’s proof that your future wife is nothing but a child born out of a hooker’s night shift," Hugh replied coldly. "It’s a record that I’ve gathered. Turns out, your cousin—Pierre’s new old girlfriend is her mother."
Alex went into a long silence as he opened the document and read it.
Hugh thought that his son would be shocked by this news. After all, that woman looked like a proper lady on the outside, so it wasn’t difficult for her to fool Alex for seven years straight.
Hugh would be happy if Alex had finally opened his eyes and planned his exit, so he said, "Just compensate her with money to abort the baby. If you can’t do that, give her a generous amount of child support per month and tell her to give birth overseas and never return. You’re not a young man anymore, Alex. You ought to have a bit of self-control and logic if you want to be the next patriarch after me."
"Are you trying to make me leave her just because of this?" Alex responded as he closed the document and tossed it to the coffee table. "I already know all of the information inside, since long ago."
Hugh’s eyes widened, "What?!"
"Yes, I already know that Eve’s mother is a hooker. I know that she comes from a difficult background. She studied hard, and won chess and math competitions to get a full scholarship in university to leave Seattle," Alex laid out all the information. "I’ve done my background check before I even tried to approach her back in university days."
"Y-You—even after knowing everything, you still try to date her?!"
"Yes," Alex replied firmly.
"You’re out of your mind, Alexander!" Hugh snapped at his son. "How stupid can you be?!"
"Stupid enough to date her for seven years?" Alex chuckled. "And what’s wrong with her background anyway? She worked hard to get into a great university with a full scholarship. She graduated with summa cum-laude, meaning she has a perfect GPA. She opened her advertising agency and worked hard every day to get to this point."
"If she is not a great woman to marry and mother my children based on your standard, then I don’t know who is," Alex listed all of the qualities that would make any parents drool, wanting to have that woman as their daughter-in-law.
Unfortunately, Hugh—and basically most people who came from affluent families, had a different point of view regarding finding a daughter-in-law.
