There, she saw a text from Andrea, and it was sent at 10.00 p.m.

There was a link attached with the text, and when Eve clicked it, her heartbeat stopped for a second. Her hand started shaking when she saw the news.

It was a leak of the new phone from a named brand which would be released next year. It had all the details, pictures, and specifications, and had been shared all across social media.

And Red Lass Agency—Eve’s company, happened to handle the upcoming advertisement. This was one of the documents that Pierre had stolen.

"H-he actually leaked the document..."

Her hand began to tremble as she realized that she was utterly fucked this time. This was one of the big projects she was currently handling, and she knew how terrible the consequences would be if it was leaked.

Andrea saw how Miss Carpenter’s face gradually turned pale as if blood had seeped out of her body. She had never seen her boss like this, as Miss Carpenter was always high and mighty in the office.

Andrea knew it was her fault, so she lowered her head and asked remorsefully, "Miss, is there something I can do to take responsibility?"

Eve lifted her head, staring at Andrea with her blurry gaze. She was about to faint right now but decided to stay strong in front of Andrea.

The moment she broke down in tears, that meant the Red Lass Agency would lose its respected leader.

"Why would you take responsibility?"

"B-because it’s my fault, Miss. I shouldn’t have allowed him to enter your office..." Andrea shrunk in her place, her voice was full of regret. "I am so sorry..."

"It’s not your fault. Pierre was my fiancé, so his threat would naturally scare you," Eve responded calmly. "Rather than feeling guilty over this, why don’t you go and tell the others that everything will turn out just fine? I’ll handle this."

"H-how are you going to handle this, Miss? The representative from the company will be here soon, and I know it won’t be pretty..."

"Don’t worry, I’ll think of a way. Now go," Eve ordered.

"Yes, Miss..."

Andrea felt weak as she bowed politely and left the CEO’s office. She was not confident that Miss Carpenter could handle such a big problem without bankrupting the agency, but all she could do was trust her and follow her instructions.

Eve waited until the door was closed. She finally broke down in tears, sobbing as she knew that she would face a big problem in the future.

She had faced many problems in life and had always been fearless in front of others. But deep down, she was still the same insecure girl with an extremely humble background. She broke down easily from problems in life, though, when she walked out of that door, she would resume her role and stay strong no matter what.

’Why do bad things keep happening to me? Am I truly unfit to lead a happy life?’

That question popped into her mind often. She tried to push it out of her mind or deny it, but as time passed, that question seemed to be closer to the truth.

Eve continued sobbing for a good while before wiping her tears. She checked her watch and realized she only had one hour before the representative from the company came to her office.

The first thing she did was to unblock Pierre’s number and call him.

Unexpectedly, the phone was picked up only after three beeps, and Eve blasted at Pierre the moment the call was connected.

"What the hell were you thinking, Pierre? Why would you leak the document?!"

There was a long silence from the other side. But once Eve got an answer, it wasn’t from Pierre.

"Because you ignored his threat, obviously," Julia replied on the phone.

"What the—give the phone to that bastard. I want to talk to him!" Eve yelled at her mother.

Julia glanced at Pierre, who was so pale that he could be mistaken as a ghost. His legs were shaking, and he looked like a grade-schooler who was summoned to the principal office.

"He’s busy," Julia replied. "Besides, what do you expect, Evelyn? You are given a week to respond, and you did absolutely nothing. Rather than taking his demand seriously, you went around and suddenly ended up with Alexander Langford."

Eve gritted her teeth. Knowing Pierre, he must’ve done everything based on Julia’s influence, since he wasn’t capable of independent thought.

"I thought the warning that Alex gave during the family function was loud and clear enough, but it seems that someone missed the memo," Eve said coldly. Since she couldn’t speak with Pierre right now, she had to change her strategy.

She knew her mother well. She was always a coldhearted bitch who wouldn’t even bat an eye seeing her own daughter fall into despair.

"Oh? So, what are you going to do, Evelyn? Are you going to use your boyfriend to attack us?" Julia grinned on the other side. She knew that everything went according to plan, and it wouldn’t take long for her daughter to fall into despair and follow her path. "Just so you know, no matter how powerful he is, Alex is still under his father’s thumb. He won’t be able to do much, not when Roger Dust is our backing."

Eve’s lips thinned.

Though Alex never mentioned it, based on their interaction with Hugh Langford last night had proven that Alex was still under his father’s thumb.

So, could he fight against Roger Dust—his uncle?

That question lingered for a moment before she said, "Just wait and see, Julia. You’re not getting away with this."

"Aw, scared. Where did my sweet little Evelyn go?" Julia chuckled. "Try to deal with this problem, Evelyn. I am curious what’d you do with Alex by your side."

Eve gritted her teeth, "Are you not scared of what’d happen if I involved someone else?"

"Me? No," Julia replied. "Because I know the end of this small fight between us; you returning to your root, Evelyn Carpenter."
