Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Leaked Document (I)
Eve quickly pulled her bathrobe together to cover her body more. She didn’t want to give this scoundrel a peek at her cleavage.
"W-why would I try to seduce you—Wait, why are you still in my room?!" Eve yelled as Alex leisurely took a bite of the apple in his hand and nudged his head towards the table next to the window.
Eve followed his line of gaze and saw a full English breakfast on the table. Alex said, "I’m here for the aftercare. I don’t want to be seen as irresponsible and selfish by the mother of my child."
Eve’s cheeks reddened instantly when Alex referred to her as the ’mother of my child’. There was a novel feeling that made her genuinely happy.
Thus, she decided to pipe down and said, "W-well, thank you for the meal, but you should leave now."
"Oh no, but I’ve prepared the meal for us. Do you want to kick me out just like that? What if I get starved because I can’t have my breakfast, shrivel, and die?" Alex teased.
Eve’s lips twitched. For some reason, she was still weak against this bastard’s words and decided to compromise once more.
Eve rolled her eyes, "Ugh, drop that act. We both know how often you skip breakfast."
"Hehe, you got me. I just want to stay for a while. It wouldn’t hurt to have breakfast together after sex, right? I want to make sure you eat well since you were exhausted last night."
Eventually, Alex and Eve sat facing each other by the window. The butler had prepared a full English breakfast for them, but Eve wasn’t a big eater, so Alex ate more than half of their shared portion.
"About Pierre’s threat..." Alex brought up the topic. "No need to worry about it. I know you have a meeting with one of your clients."
"How am I not going to worry? What if Pierre already leaked some of the confidential documents?"
"Because he would be an idiot if he did that," Alex stated confidently. "I can easily crush him and his father’s company. To put it frankly, Roger Dust has been nothing but an eyesore to me, but I let him around because he’s still useful to maintain family hierarchy... one way or another."
"But Pierre IS an idiot," Eve doubted. She lived with that wimp for two years and remembered how many times she had to rub her temples because of a headache when dealing with him. "But I’ll take your word. Besides, I’ve seen how they all turn pale when you announce our ’relationship’."
"Mhm. Though, maybe you want me to accompany you around? I can act like a guard dog for you," Alex offered.
"No thanks. Announcing our fake relationship in front of your family is enough to give me cold feet. I can’t imagine having the whole world know that I’m dating Alexander Langford."
"I see nothing wrong with it," Alex shrugged.
"Oh, but I do. Don’t you remember that you’re still a rising actor? You have tons of fans out there, and I don’t want to be the receiving end of their hate comments," Eve sighed. "I should’ve known that you’re not just a broke boy back then. You are objectively handsome, it’s so stupid that you didn’t use it to your full advantage and become a model or actor from the get-go."
Alex chuckled, "I never plan to be one in the first place."
"Then why’d you suddenly want to be an actor if you’re not interested?"
Alex smiled meaningfully while staring at Eve. He didn’t answer her question but got up instead and said, "You still have my offer, by the way. I can walk around with you and be your bodyguard. I also don’t mind announcing our relationship to the public."
"Even if it’ll cost you your acting career and fans?"
"What makes you think that I care about those?" Alex raised his brow provocatively before he walked out.
Eve clicked her tongue as she took a big bite of the sausage.
"I don’t understand him. Why’d he painstakingly work for two years to become a rising actor, just to drop it out of whim?"
Eve decided to drop the thought, knowing that even after five years of dating him, she still couldn’t understand the true Alex completely.

Eve walked through the long corridor of her office. It had been a week since she came to the office, and nothing changed even after Pierre betrayed her.
However, she couldn’t help but realize that the vibes were a little off.
It was nothing but dead silence in here. The employees who would usually talk with each other about work or other things, greet her, or at least smile at her had their eyes glued to their computer screen.
They all had that terrified expression as if this building would explode the next second.
’What’s wrong with them?’ Eve pondered. She tried to recall all the projects that she had planned and thought that it shouldn’t stress them out so badly.
She continued walking to her office, and saw Andrea, her secretary, with the same terrified expression the others had.
She frowned, and wanted to ask Andrea what was wrong, but decided to talk about it inside her office.
Eve put her bag on the table and pressed the call button. She sat on her chair, staring at the door as Andrea walked in with a document that should be the material she would present in front of their client today.
But Andrea’s terrified expression got even worse as she approached, so she couldn’t help but ask, "What’s wrong, Andrea? Why do you and others look like a bomb has been planted in our office?"
Andrea’s eyes widened when she realized that Miss Carpenter seemed to be oblivious to what was happening.
"M-Miss, didn’t you see my text last night?"
"Last night?" Eve frowned. She hadn’t checked her phone for the entire night because she was having a little fun with Alex, and was busy with him in the morning as well. She fished her phone out of the bag and checked the last message.`
