Chapter 29: Chapter 29: You are my type

"What are you talking about? What’s there to misunderstand?" Alex frowned.

"I just don’t want them to think that we are still dating. Besides, I don’t want to listen to you having sex with someone else. It’s disturbing," Eve said while lowering her head, staring at her pancake to let go of this discomfort in her heart.

Alex’s brows creased even deeper, "Why should I hook up with another woman when you’re here with me?"

Eve lifted her head and stared at him in disbelief, and Alex stared back at her with mild annoyance, "Besides, I don’t want to make you uncomfortable when you’re carrying my baby. I may be a scumbag in your eyes, but I am not cruel enough to do that to the mother of my child."

’Especially when the real woman I love is right in front of me. What’s the point of fucking a replacement?’ Alex wanted to add that, but he knew that Eve would react badly.

He was embarrassed to admit it, but all the flings he brought home were redheads for a reason.

Not because redheads were her type. Before meeting Eve, he was into brunettes, specifically Megan Fox from the Transformers movie, just like the typical boys of his age back then.

But all of his preferences changed when he met Eve for the first time. He was into redheads now because Eve happened to be one, just like how he liked a feisty woman. After all, Eve happened to be feisty as well.

He also liked how red her cheeks could get when she was shy. He liked how her cupid’s bow lips would curl when she was amused. He loved how she would always use tall stilettos to make sure nobody looked down on her height.

Basically, Eve was his type. There was no doubt of it, and Alex had long admitted that.

’So why should I fuck another woman when you’re right here with me, Evelyn?’

Meanwhile, Eve was unsure of what to think right now.

At first, she was ready for a screaming match against him in the dining hall. She felt a burning jealousy in her heart and couldn’t wait to confront that scumbag, even though she knew that she had no right to be jealous.

Alex was right.

They broke up for two years, cut contact, and had never seen each other anymore. What right did she have to be jealous when he hooked up with other women? Meanwhile, she was dating Pierre only a few months after their bad breakup.

Alex noticed the dull emotion surrounding her. He had known Eve long enough to know that she was feeling sad, or at least guilty.

He didn’t like seeing her like this. One quality that he loved about Eve was how full of life she was. So, he asked, "How did you meet him anyway? I don’t remember ever introducing him to you, especially since I didn’t tell you about my real identity."

"A month after we broke up, he just randomly showed up in the Red Lass Agency’s office and then applied for a job as my personal assistant. I was about to dismiss him at first, until he suddenly told me that he is your cousin," Eve recalled. "Maybe I was still bitter about our breakup back then, so I accepted him and allowed him to court me and then date me the next month."

"Don’t you realize how weird that is? I’ve never introduced him to you, but he just walked in and confirmed his identity and relation to me, as if he already knew that we dated before," Alex raised a question. He was pondering about the reason for Pierre knowing about his relationship with Eve, because he was sure that he never told anyone in his family about Eve, at least not yet.

"I didn’t care about the details back then. I just thought that he looked like an idiot, very clumsy and a bit slow. So he won’t try to lie to me," Eve explained. "I guess I have always been bad at my judgment about men. Both him and you betrayed me."

"I didn’t betray you. I—"

"—Lied to me about everything," Eve completed his sentence. "Stop trying to justify what you did. It makes me angry when you think that you can lie to me for five years straight and I’d forgive it."

"Even if you know that I lied because I don’t want to lose you?" Alex asked.

"But you lost me because you lied," Eve insisted. Her chest began to heave as the thought of Alex whom she loved so dearly for five years was just a fake persona this scumbag made. It was enough to make her feel sick. "Please stop talking about this, Alex. You’ve hurt me enough."

Alex still had a lot of ways to justify his lies back then, but he decided to zip his lips when he saw how Eve’s chest heaved, and her eyes began to glaze with tears.

He thought lying about his background for five years so he could connect with her better was not a crime.

Yes, he lied.

But he lied because he fell in love. He didn’t care about his method, as long as he could get close to Eve.

Eve wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes. She tried her best not to cry, but the idea of her first love, Alex, who vanished into thin air was enough to get her emotional.

"Anyway, when will you meet with Pierre again?" Eve asked as she decided to focus on her mission.

"And why do you need to know?" Alex’s lips thinned. "Are you trying to get back together with him just because of his threat?"

"I’d rather marry Didi than him, or you. I’m not a goddamn idiot who’d fall into the trap three times in a row," Eve replied harshly. "I just want to meet him... with you by my side."
