Eve was speechless by how easy the last night seemed for him, while Eve was burning with shame right now.

"Didi, come," Alex called the dog while waving the chew toy.

"Arf!" Didi licked Eve’s feet once more as a goodbye sign, which made the latter pull her feet immediately.

"G-get your dog out of my room!"

Alex chuckled, "Don’t be so harsh on him. He likes you very much. See how he woke you up first instead of me?"

"By licking my feet!"

"I see nothing wrong with that," Alex chuckled before snickering. "Let’s go, Didi. The pretty lady is not in a good mood," Alex said. He threw the chew toy out of the room, and it landed in the corridor.

"Woof! Woof!" The dog happily jumped from the bed and bolted out of the room before Alex to fetch the chew toy back to his master.

"Take your time. I’ll be waiting at the dining hall," Alex said as he closed the door.

Eve dazedly stared at the door for a while until the headache hit her.

She was so confused and panicked when she woke up, so she didn’t realize the bad hangover she felt until she was all alone.

"Ugh, why did I try to match his pace when drinking alcohol? He has never gotten drunk, even when we were dating before," Eve had nobody but herself to blame for this.

She knew she was behaving childishly, and it was very uncharacteristic of her, but she couldn’t help it. Whenever she was with Alex or thinking about him, she became the same vulnerable girl two years ago, who acted solely on her emotions.

Eve got up from the bed. She massaged her temple and brows while walking to the bathroom.

She checked on herself in the mirror. She didn’t feel anything suspicious down there, but she realized that her lips were a little swollen, which was a sign that she had been kissed.

Eve had dated Alex for five years to know what kind of kisser he was.

He never gave her a tender kiss that an old married couple would usually do. His kiss was always passionate, plundering, and pushy. He kissed her as if she would disappear the next second.

"Well, I guess he’s still gentlemanly enough not to fuck me while I was drunk," Eve muttered. But there was a tinge of discomfort in her heart.

When they were still dating, they had a lot of drunken sex, and though Eve didn’t remember any of her drunken rambles, she still remembered his taste, and how he was so wild whenever they had drunken sex.

’Am I not good enough for him anymore? Usually, he would lose control when we were drunk...’ Eve pondered for a moment before she snapped out of it and shook her head out of panic. "W-what are you thinking, Evelyn?! Why would you want him to do that while you are drunk?! You are not dating him anymore! Ugh!"

Eve was frustrated by her own thoughts. She felt like a stupid teenage girl who just broke up with her high school sweetheart.

Confused by her feelings and didn’t know what she wanted, she pushed unnecessary thoughts to the back of her mind. Eve simply washed her face and brushed her teeth. After freshening herself, she went to the dining hall downstairs wearing a loose sweater.

As she walked through the corridor, she saw a young housekeeper in her early twenties, checking her long skirt, which had been torn at the hem.

It was a medium tear, but it was noticeable since she kept loudly muttering about the stupid dog.

"Uhh... are you alright?" Eve asked as she approached her.

The housekeeper lifted her head and was flustered seeing her soon-to-be Mistress of the house. She quickly followed the instruction given by the Head Butler, Mr. Don, on how to pay respect to her.

She bowed politely in front of Eve and greeted her, "Good morning, Madam—oh, wait, n-not yet, I-I mean, good morning, Miss Carpenter. Sir is already downstairs, waiting for you at the dining hall!"

Eve was surprised by the sudden greeting. She saw herself as a guest in this mansion who had no intention of staying, so the formal greeting felt unnecessarily ceremonial.

Eve was actually more concerned about her skirt, "About your skirt. Did something happen?"

"Oh, uhm, it’s fine, Miss. It was just the dog, as usual," the housekeeper sighed.

"You mean Didi? So, when he said that Didi chases and bites everyone he sees is not a lie?"

"Not at all, Miss! He doesn’t bite the skin, but he always bites our dress and jeans, sometimes bags too!" the housekeeper reported. "Uhm, but don’t worry about him, Miss. Didi is vaccinated, and healthy. He is just very mischievous, mostly because Sir Langford taught him so. Rather than disciplining the dog, he simply gave us bonuses every month to replace all the torn skirts and jeans."

"Are you sure? I can talk to Alex about this," Eve said. "The dog needs to be disciplined, and if he refuses to discipline him, then I will do it."

"T-then, you should, Miss! You’re the first and probably the only one Didi likes other than his master in this mansion!" the housekeeper encouraged enthusiastically. "O-oh, I shouldn’t talk too much with you. Mr. Don will not like it."

"Huh? Why not?"

"He said it’s because I’m just a contract worker. Mr. Don told me if I speak more to you, then I’ll be fired," the young housekeeper replied innocently. "I think it’s because I’ve seen Sir Langford bringing a few women into the mansion. Some of them are like, super popular too! Maybe I will continue spilling secrets of what I saw here!"

"OH!" The housekeeper panicked when she realized what she had just said. She stuttered as she begged, "P-p-please don’t tell anyone I said that, Miss. I don’t want to be fired! I-I still need the money for my college tuition!"

"What’s your name?" Eve asked, her tone was noticeably cooler now.

"J-Jordan..."

"Alright, Jordan. Don’t worry, I will remember your name and make sure that you won’t get fired no matter what," Eve assured. "For now, I’m going to have a peaceful breakfast with that scumbag."
