Chapter 1788: Chapter 543 Mechanical Legion Surrounds and Kills Tier 8
"Enemy attack!"
"Everyone, prepare for battle!"
"..."
Mechanical Sentinels stationed at every entrance to the camp had already detected the unidentified intruders in advance. This gave the Alliance Army precious time to prepare.
Suddenly, the rallying call echoed through the temporary command post by the underground river.
In the camp, mechanics rushed out of their tents one after another. They moved with calm precision and, within mere seconds, had slipped into their respective Mechanical Battle Armors. Instantly, the massive camp was filled with the thunderous roar of steam boilers and the relentless clatter of ammunition being loaded. Hundreds of Mechanical Battle Armors entered combat mode at top speed.
Inside a tent, Catherine Carter had been arranging pieces on a sand table when the abrupt blare of the horn made her snap her head up. Her gaze instinctively turned serious.
She knew what it meant: the enemy had arrived.
But her concern eased the moment she glanced at Leonard Churchill, who was calmly closing a classic book he had been reading. The furrow that had just formed between her brows immediately relaxed.
With this man here, it felt like there was nothing to worry about.
It had always been like that.
Before they could exchange words, the communications officer rushed into the tent, urgently reporting: "General Commander!"
Catherine: "Come in."
The communications officer entered the tent and delivered his report with a rapid but clear pace: "Ma’am, unidentified enemies have breached the southwest exit. Mechanical Sentinels have detected at least two enemy legions, numbering over a thousand troops. The outer automatic mechanical equipment has already engaged the vanguard of their forces..."
Catherine listened calmly and replied, "Understood."
Seeing that the General Commander did not rise, the communications officer reminded hesitantly, "Ma’am, should we proceed with evacuation arrangements?"
Catherine waved her hand dismissively and said with cool resolve, "Notify all combat departments to execute Plan S."
The communications officer was momentarily stunned by her words but did not press further. He saluted and departed briskly: "Yes, ma’am!"
During a war, encountering an enemy ambush is nothing out of the ordinary, and the command post had robust contingency measures in place.
Generally, in case of a sudden attack, while troops prepare for battle, high-ranking officers would immediately evacuate to safer ground.
The choice of this underground river as a location was deliberate; the interconnected tunnels ensured the command post couldn’t be entirely surrounded, even if elite attackers struck the camp. This guaranteed the survival of the command chain.
But this time was different.
The trap had been carefully laid to ambush the Simon Family’s Eighth Order Card Master—it wasn’t a situation they intended to run from.
The ambush plan was known only to a few senior strategists, with the rest merely executing orders without understanding the broader objective.
Originally, Catherine herself was meant to head to the sanctuary, but since Leonard was here, that option felt unnecessary.
The tent held only two people as Catherine stood to don her military jacket. She glanced at Leonard and said, "I’m heading out to command the battle."
Leonard raised an eyebrow and smiled, "Alright. I’ll go with you."
...
The explosion of gunfire and cannon blasts reverberated far and wide throughout the Underground Cave, the sounds of fierce combat surrounding the command post.
Leonard and Catherine stepped out of the tent to find the camp bustling with activity.
This command post housed the Alliance’s elite mechanical unit.
Though the coordination of personnel and equipment seemed chaotic to an outsider, everything was unfolding in perfect order.
Heavy defensive Mechanical Shields were already set up, forming a protective barrier for the temporary command post. The barrels of Magic Energy Cannons were locked onto various cave entrances.
Hundreds of Mechanical Battle Armors had assembled into battle formations, their micro-missiles and Magic Energy Weapons charging up.
Drawing the most attention were the thirty "Hunting God Level Battle Armors," their kinetic boilers glowing bright blue.
"Hunting God Level" referred to the power grade; the designs themselves varied.
Some Battle Armors were outfitted with heavy missile systems for ranged weaponry, others specialized in close-quarters combat with Magic Energy Weapons, while others served as front-line tank units with reinforced shields. Their customization allowed them to adapt to diverse battlefield conditions.
This time, the target was "Poison Scythe" Zorass, the Eighth Rank Commander of the Dragon Wing Viper Mercenary Corps.
As such, all thirty Hunting God Armors were outfitted with heavy-duty enhancements, with layers of bulky Mechanical Armor installed onto their frames.
Though this reduced their mobility and nearly halved their endurance capabilities, their survivability was vastly improved.
When Catherine stepped out in her crisp white military uniform, morale surged throughout the camp.
Catherine entered the command post, sheltered within layers of protective barriers, where a dozen senior generals and strategists had already gathered.
As she entered, the doors locked behind her.
Everyone stood solemnly and saluted her with military precision: "General Commander!"
Catherine returned the salute with a dignified air. "Everyone, take your seats."
Leonard glanced around—these individuals all bore general stars on their shoulders. These were the highest-ranking officers of the Alliance Army.
This operation, originally an intelligence mission limited to Alliance senior leadership, raised no eyebrows at Leonard’s presence.
Though Leonard might not recognize everyone, all of them knew him.
This group comprised Catherine’s trusted inner circle, fully aware of Leonard’s critical role in allowing the Alliance Army to gain a foothold so rapidly on the Old Continent.
From negotiating the Alliance with the Rebel Dragon Army to facilitating cooperation with the East Desolate New World Technology City, Leonard had been instrumental in navigating these life-or-death decisions...
His efforts had been a key factor in bridging these pivotal partnerships.
Although Leonard held no official title, the generals chose to acknowledge him with polite nods. Having crossed paths with him before, they silently signaled their respect.
Leonard, unperturbed, found himself an unoccupied seat and settled down to observe.
The display crystal projected the situation throughout the camp.
The battle appeared to be raging intensely.
