Chapter 1787: Chapter 542_3
After meeting, Catherine Carter didn’t mention a word about her countless troubles.
She noticed the slightly serious atmosphere and didn’t linger on the topic, instead asking, "How did you manage to advance so quickly?"
Leonard Churchill chuckled, "I encountered some fortune, then just advanced."
Catherine rolled her eyes at him, teasing with a laugh, "You’re something else. When I first met you at the Flood Gang, you were way behind me. Now, your realm is so high I can’t even grasp it..."
She spoke with a curious expression, clearly interested in hearing about his adventures on the Southern Continent. "Was everything smooth for you on the Southern Continent?"
"Well... not exactly smooth. But nothing too dangerous either."
Leonard, having nothing to hide from his close friend, continued candidly, "I initially went to the Royal Academy on the Southern Continent, and everything went well at first. Then, the Emperor’s Relics emerged..."
Catherine had some knowledge of the Southern Continent’s affairs but was hearing this information firsthand from someone who experienced it.
Only then did she realize how directly Leonard was tied to the current chaotic situation on the Southern Continent.
Even the Three Great Sects, the Dead Dragon’s return, and the Battle of Giant Spirit City’s military turmoil—he was involved in all of it.
The story was long. Leonard spoke for a long time while Catherine, like an attentive audience, listened quietly for just as long.
Though Leonard brushed over his adventures lightly, she could hear the dangers hidden within them.
At last, she understood why Leonard had advanced to the Eighth Rank so quickly.
Even though Catherine hadn’t interjected, her bright eyes glittered, clearly reflecting her internal tumult.
Yet, there was still a familiar feeling.
This was the same daring adventurer she had always known.
Finally, Leonard concluded his tale and glanced at Catherine beside him. "And then I came to see you..."
Catherine pondered for a moment, sighing, "Every time we meet, it’s never easy, huh..."
Leonard responded with a noncommittal smile, "Yeah."
He didn’t think it was just himself who’d had it rough—Catherine had been through her share as well.
With the current situation, for her to survive as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, she must have endured incredible hardships too.
The fact that they could meet again was truly no small miracle.
Finishing their talk about the Southern Continent’s story felt like finishing a bottle of potent wine.
Both remained silent for a long time. Catherine’s thoughts lingered in the vivid and turbulent tales.
The breeze carried the refreshing scent unique to an underground river, brushing against her face, lifting her waterfall-like golden hair, revealing her stunningly beautiful profile.
Leonard caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye and couldn’t help but take an extra look.
Unsure what he was thinking, the corner of his mouth subtly curved upward.
Thinking back to their first meeting—this heiress of the Lionheart Family—and now, it felt like ages had passed.
The intertwining of two fates always gave people a sense of marvel about how remarkably fitting destiny could be.
Catherine noticed Leonard’s faint smile and glanced at him.
Her crystalline eyes suddenly shimmered with playful mirth as she murmured, "Sometimes, I think it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to go adventuring with you..."
Leonard smiled and said, "I think you’re better suited to being a general."
Catherine raised her shapely brows and didn’t deny this statement.
As if recalling something, she suddenly asked, "By the way, how’s your Witch Deformation?"
"Hmm... not too much of an issue."
The words sounded concerned, but Leonard saw the playful gleam in her eyes, as if she had something in mind.
Catherine continued, "Oh, I thought you had it under control. I originally assumed you’d come back earlier to have me help you suppress the bonds."
To be fair, Leonard had thought about it before.
Back when he used the Black Demon Gloves and became contaminated, the Pleasurable Dreamscape’s suppression effect was weakening, and he had considered this option.
But clearly, Catherine’s teasing wasn’t about that.
Sure enough, her unabashed gaze fell on Leonard as she quipped mischievously, "So it seems you’ve found some special secret skill to suppress the deformation?"
Leonard could tell she’d guessed something but didn’t intend to respond to such probing. Instead, he replied, "I learned an Enchanting Demon Secret Method from a vampire who’s lived for hundreds of thousands of years to suppress the deformation..."
Catherine’s eyes sparkled with a hint of playful ambiguity as she retorted, "Oh... are you suggesting I should learn it too?"
Leonard: "You can?"
Catherine’s face bloomed with a radiant smile as her laughter danced in the wind. "Of course."
To the world, she might be a commanding White Jade Lion, but in front of someone she liked, she had no reservations about showing her charm.
Not shying away from the suggestive topic, she laughed openly and said, "Anytime."
...
Camilla and Tracy Garcia had identities that were far too sensitive. After helping Catherine fuse the Plum Flower Q origin card, they left first.
Leonard stayed behind at the camp.
The Alliance Army was planning to ambush an Eighth Order Card Master. His presence offered additional security.
More importantly, he needed to create a chance for the Silver Moon Sect to interact with Catherine.
Several consecutive days passed.
The Allied Forces operated in the designated area near the Shadow Teeth Fortress, sticking closely to their previously crafted plan.
Finally, one noon, a sudden explosion echoed through the riverway.
Leonard knew—it was the Simon Family who had found this temporary command post of the Allied Forces.
