Chapter 89: Lie

Jules pov

"I..." I trailed off, biting at the inside of my mouth, unsure of how to say. Blaze was still staring at me, clearly waiting for me to say something.

I swallowed emptily and brushed my hair out of my face, and then I shifted a little in my seat.

"I transferred because... because, the other school, they were..."

I trailed off because I was still unable to come up with something reasonable to say.

"Did you transfer because you were getting bullied?" He asked and my eyes widened as I stared at him.

I remained frozen for a few moments before vigorously nodding my head in response, and then I regretted doing that almost immediately because lying to him didn’t feel great in any way, it only felt really terrible at the pits of my stomach.

The expression on blaze’s face softened and I felt like the worst human on earth, especially after he leaned forward and combed his fingers through my hair.

"Were you bullied a lot?" He asked and I let out a squeak before hurriedly shaking my head.

In reality, I was never actually bullied. I felt insecure and inferior my whole life, so in a way, I was the cause of half of my problems. I get teased a lot, because of my height and because of how timid I was. I used to get made fun of, but that was mostly when I was little. Once I grew older, people stopped making fun of me because they were also grown enough to understand that I was a prince and that I have a bunch of older siblings who don’t joke around when it comes to me.

But they still teased me here and there, and that was it.

Of course I couldn’t tell blaze that, not after I had just told him that I got bullied in my previous school.

"Whose dumb idea was it for you to transfer into carnivals? No school in the country is as worse as it when it comes to bullying. Which school did you transfer from?"

I bit my bottom lip and silently swore within myself. I didn’t know the names of any other schools here in this country, so I couldn’t even mention a random school.

"We don’t have to talk about this if it’s that traumatizing." He suggested and I felt more horrified than I felt moments ago.

It was at the tip of my tongue to tell him that I had been previously lying about transferring to this school, and to tell him the entire truth and that I was only hiding away here.

His fingers combed through my hair once again and I let out a small sigh.

"I’m sorry." I whispered quietly, because I didn’t know what else to say. I was apologizing to him for lying, for not being honest with him despite how much he has taken care of him.

I knew I trusted him, but I didn’t understand why I still held off from telling him the entire truth.

Perhaps it was because of how Andrian had warned me to never ever reveal the truth to anyone here in this school for my own safety.

"It’s alright, bunny. You don’t need to apologize for being traumatized. Take all the time you need. We can talk about this some other time." His voice was soft as he spoke and I felt a painful pang in my chest.

I’m officially the worst person ever in the history of worst people.

No doubts.

"Is there anything tangible in there? Aside from drinks?" Blaze asked from his spot before the stove.

My head was shoved deep in the fridge, trying to find if we’d be able to find some food in there. It was almost midnight and we were both starving, which was why we were currently here in the kitchen.

There wasn’t anything here in the fridge asides from a few bags of chips, a few more snacks, water and drinks. There wasn’t actual food in here.

I pulled a bag of chips from the fridge and pushed it close before walking towards the spot where blaze was still standing in.

I waved the bag of chips at him. "There’s no actual food in there, not even eggs." I told him and he snorted before reaching for the bag of chips I was holding. Our fingers brushed and I had to bite on my bottom lip to stop myself from openly reacting to the tingles that shot through my veins at that touch.

Blaze tore the bag of chips open and poured it into a bowl, and then he presented it to me.

"This is gonna be our dinner for tonight." He informed me, lips twitching and I laughed as I accepted the bowl from him while shaking my head.

"This wouldn’t be the first time I’d be having chips for dinner." I said as I threw a piece of chip into my mouth.

"Me neither." He responded with a snort, hand digging into the bowl to shove a mouthful of chips into his mouth, munching and swallowing the entire thing in a few seconds.

His Adam Apple bobbed each time he swallowed and I was so obsessed with that tiny detail about him, it was so mesmerizing and made him appear even hotter. It was borderline ridiculous, literally everything he does is attractive to me.

Perhaps I am already developing a mental problem because I’ve never felt this way for anyone before in my entire life.

"If you want, I can teleport and get you an actual dinner." His voice pulled me out of my thoughts and I peered at him for a moment before shaking my head.

"That’s not really necessary. I- I don’t eat a lot anyway, this chip is gonna do just fine." I responded, meaning every single word.

It would have been really nice to eat actual food tonight, but I didn’t want him to use his powers unnecessarily just because of me. Teleporting wasn’t something rampant back at home, when everything was still perfect. Only a few people were given that gift.

Teleportation wasn’t a magic that can be taught or learnt, you have to have the gift within you. I wasn’t born with that gift like my mother and Anya were, it’s why I was never able to teleport my entire life.

Blaze hummed as he stared down at me. I was sipping on a bottle of water when he spoke next.

"Does my powers scare you?"
