Chapter 208: Threat

Jules’ pov

"I’m so dumb and I suck at literally every subject." I cried out softly while clutching my head and staring down at the paper on my desk.

I was currently sitting in the empty seat beside Blaze at the back of the class. It took a lot of convincing for Blaze to finally agree to let me off his laps, and when I took the seat beside him, I knew that even though we were both seated at the back of the class, we were still the center of attention.

The teacher arrived in class minutes ago and I didn’t miss the double take he did on sighting me beside Blaze at the back of the class. It was the same teacher who I had stupidly asked why he was letting students like Malachi to blatantly cheat while others weren’t.

He cleared his throat after being frozen for minutes and when he began to hand out papers of our last test results, he tensed up when he got to the back and slipped mine onto my desk. Our eyes barely locked before he scurried back to the front.

Blaze didn’t get a paper like the rest of the students, and he peered into mine after my outburst.

"You hate physics?" He asked and I nodded weakly. "I hate all the subjects being taught in the school, except English language and literature. The subjects being taught here are subjects I’ve never encountered before, so I suck at them." I responded softly, keeping my voice down so no one would be able to overhear.

"Oh." Blaze called out while nodding slowly.

"I could tutor you... and put you through any difficulties you might have encountered." He offered next and my eyes widened as it panned towards his face. He was leaning against the seat, his face appearing relaxed and soft.

"You can? You don’t even participate in anything that goes on in classes." I reminded him and he snorted.

"That’s because I just don’t feel like it. But I know a lot of things, my brain is photogenic." He drawled and I realized that it really shouldn’t be surprising. He has proven times without numbers that he was beyond smart, so it genuinely shouldn’t be surprising.

"That’s actually so cool. It’s no wonder why you never bother about doing anything in class." I whispered and he laughed softly.

"So, you wanna take lessons?" He asked next and I nodded vigorously, of course I wanted lessons.

My mind instantly drifted towards Elio. The time I told him about my problem was when he agreed to help me if I agreed to help him out too. I wasn’t judging him for that and I understand that it’s perfectly normal for one to want to use what they have to get what they want, but sadly that wasn’t for me because I couldn’t participate in his camboy videos.

"We’ll work out a schedule later today then, but I want to remind you that you don’t really have to put in so much effort into this school, you know..." he trailed off for a moment as I blinked slowly. "Since you’re technically hiding away here, you don’t have to put in so much effort, since it wouldn’t matter." He explained and I nodded slowly as it began to slowly dawn on me.

"Oh." I whispered, realizing what he meant. In a way, he was right. I guess it doesn’t really matter, but in a way, I wasn’t sure of where I stand, or if I’d even be able to return back to my old life. Which was what made me feel like I needed to put in effort into my students here, because technically, this is my life now.

I excused myself for the restroom and kept my head down as I made my way over. Once inside, I leaned against the door for a few seconds before moving over to the sink and washing my hands. I stared at myself in the mirror, taking in my glowing face and grimacing at the brown eyes staring back at me.

I’d give anything to stop wearing these damned contacts.

I went into one of the stalls and once I was done with my business, I stepped out to wash my hand again. I was drying my hand by positioning it underneath the dryer when the restroom door opened.

I didn’t pay it any mind until a familiar scent hit my nose and I slowly grew tense, spine stiffening.

I turned around slowly, biting at the inside of my mouth as my eyes settled on Kai’s face. He wore a blank expression and had surprise swimming in his eyes as he stared down at me.

"I didn’t believe it at first, but you’re actually mated to him." He breathed out as his eyes slowly raked over me before zeroing in on my covered throat.

I grew tenser and cleared my throat. "Thank you for congratulating me." I informed him and he let out an amused snort before folding his hands.

"Congratulating you? The hell would I do that for?" He demanded and I shrugged, squaring my jaw.

"You don’t have to, Kai. I couldn’t care less if you’re happy about this or not." I reminded him and made to step around him but he blocked my path, a frown plastered across his face.

"You don’t know what you’ve gotten yourself into." He blurted out, almost angrily and I let out an exhausted sigh.

"Actually, I do. Please move out of the way."

He threw his hands out, clearly angry. "I’m only looking out for you but you’re being difficult as usual!"

"Don’t look out for me please." I responded flatly, having had enough of his cryptic ass.

He let out a snort this time, the side of his lips twitching, and then he stepped forward. I tried to hold his gaze and stand my ground, determined to not back away.

Only a little space remained between us and I still continued to hold his gaze, and soon, a small grin stretched out across his face.

"You’ve always wanted to know what I know this whole time, isn’t that right?" His voice was pitched low as he spoke and I stiffened as I kept holding his gaze.

I didn’t respond to his question, and after a few moments, he continued.

"Let me give you a hint: I know your secret." He drew and I grew more stiff, shock swimming through my insides. I tried not to give out anything across my face, but I wasn’t sure I succeeded in that aspect.

"Stop being ridiculous." I called out, voice thankfully steady.

He let out a laugh in response and then he leaned down a little as he continued.

"You have a secret. Don’t try denying it because it’s pointless. I’m aware of your secret and well, let’s just say, it’s still a secret... but just for now."

I cleared my throat and squared my chin defiantly. "You don’t know anything about me."

He laughed this time, throwing his head back. "If that’s what you want to believe, I won’t hold you." He explained, and then he stepped away from me.

"But I want you to know that I know your secret, and I’ll keep it to myself... for now." He grinned once he was done, eyes gleaming and chills instantly rolled down my spine.

I want to keep telling myself that he was only bluffing and that he really didn’t know anything, but something within myself was telling me that he wasn’t bluffing.

If that was the case then it means I’m undoubtedly fucked.
