Chapter 408: +Chapter 408+
As the van screeched to a halt, Angelo dashed to the driver’s side, relieved that the window was down, he would rather not have to smash through it.
He moved decisively, chopping the driver on the neck. The car had already braked to a stop, so it was easy to get in after that.
The driver had gone limp, slouching over the steering wheel. It was dark out, the headlights the only thing illuminating the dark corner they were in, and in a few seconds that went out as well, plunging the street into darkness.
Angelo moved quickly, it was a little cramped but it didn’t hamper his movements. He peeled the clothes off the driver and even with the limited lighting, it was difficult to miss that it wasn’t a man but a woman.
His eyes narrowed at the provocative lingerie she wore under her uniform, tossing her unconscious body into the hedges close to the street. She would rouse in a short while so he had taken precautions against that.
The hedges hid her body well, a small dot of blood on her right arm as she lay in the greenery, her eyes closed to the world.
In the driver’s seat, Angelo yanked off his hoodie and put on her uniform. The red and white company shirt was stretched thin on his body, he might be skinny but his shoulders were broader than the unconscious woman so her outfit was a bit snug.
It fit well enough though and that was all that mattered. He leaned across the console to grab the red hat that had rolled to the passenger’s seat, putting it on and pulling it low on his head.
Without a moment to waste, he stepped on the gas and sped down the street. He had carried out the interception in record time but it was better to not delay even a moment.
The hat obscured his eyes from anyone looking, Angelo would rather not have his lower face showing but he didn’t get a choice for that.
He didn’t waste his time thinking about the outcome of tonight, going over the escape route and the security positions in his head.
The apartment complex Nikolai lived in was rented out to other people, the Mafia King refusing to have a home base like the other two Mafia Kings. It was beneficial to Angelo, because he wouldn’t have gotten this opportunity otherwise.
He parked the van in the parking lot, feeling several eyes piercing into him. Angelo pretended not to see them, tugging the brim of the cap he wore to bring it even lower over his eyes.
He walked around the van with casual strides, opening the back door. There were lamps in the parking lot, and the apartment complex itself was brightly lit so he could clearly see that the van was empty save for a simple package.
Angelo frowned, he had monitored the van ever since it left its company, there hadn’t been any stops, so why?
He paused, his alarms blaring. This was such a strange development, he had to be on high alert. Was it that Mafia King Nikolai was just so important that they specially sent out a delivery person just for him?
That was possible, after all, the company was on his turf, they were probably affiliated with him in some way.
With that thought he picked up the sizable box from the van. Despite being about the size of a microwave, it was very light, it had Angelo a little bit curious about what the Mafia King had ordered.
He didn’t pay any more attention to it, it was just a pass for him to get close to the Mafia King, he didn’t care about what the Mafia King was interested in.
As he approached the doors of the complex that led to a common lobby, he got odd looks from the security at the door but they made no move to stop him.
Angelo really wanted to take the stairs to prevent being trapped in the elevator if his disguise had been seen through but there was simply no time.
He had meticulously put everything in place but it was so easy for everything to go wrong, he just had to make his move as fast as possible.
Inside the elevator, there were three other people. Two were businessmen, and one was a teenage girl who was constantly tapping on her phone.
Angelo kept his head down, it was such a strangely natural scene. It was out of place that he was actually there to assassinate a Mafia Boss.
As the elevator went up to the penthouse, he was the only one left inside, everyone else had already stopped on their floors.
Angelo’s breathing was steady as he walked down the hallway, the entire top floor was occupied by Nikolai. There shouldn’t be any of Nikolai’s men up here but he was still on guard.
As he approached the door, he deftly moved the package to a single hand and pulled out a flat thin knife that could perfectly be hidden in the palm of his hand.
He had been expecting to be searched but they had treated him like a normal deliveryman in a normal apartment complex, and not one that housed a dangerous Mafia King.
Angelo gently knocked on the door with the hand that held the knife, his expression under his hat calm despite what he was about to do.
He tried to listen intently for sounds on the other side of the door but it had to be insulated because not even the lightest of sounds escaped.
His expression turned grim - had he miscalculated? What Mafia King Nikolai not in here after al-
Angelo’s thoughts were interrupted by the door handle turning, his expression going back to neutral. His thin fingers were steady around the knife in his hand, which was sharp enough to cut from even the lightest of touches.
As soon as the door swung open, he lunged, slashing with his knife, his reflexes razor sharp.
