Captive Mate BL

Chapter 394: -Chapter 394-

Jael hung back as the doctor got to work, he had to call someone to take away the lunch they were supposed to eat, his appetite long gone.

It seemed to be one thing after the other today, but he was relieved that Davian had been informed. Although he had said he would call the Alpha himself, he would rather not be the bearer of this sort of news.

He watched the doctor methodically take care of Lake who had finally fallen asleep from exhaustion. The doctor made sure he was comfortable, double-checked his vitals and anything he might have missed, and even got some water and a towel to wipe Lake’s face.

It caught Jael’s attention, considering that a missing doctor was the cause of the current situation, he found himself wondering. Asher wouldn’t be fine with an Alpha attending to Caspian so that was out of it, but if the doctor was a family doctor of a Mafia House, he had to know some things.

"Doctor..." He struck up a conversation.

"Micheal Perez," The doctor introduced, he was done attending to Lake and was now meticulously arranging his bag.

"Is Lake going to be okay?"

The doctor looked troubled, "Not until Davian returns. I could try prescribing some pills for motion sickness for him but I don’t know if it’ll curb the nausea."

Jael grimaced, Davian was no doubt taking the fastest possible route back but it would still be a while before he got here.

"Doc?" Jael started carefully after a short spell of silence, "Think it’s possible to induce heats?"

The doctor slowly turned to him with a neutral expression, "It is but the physiology is quite complex that it’s practically impossible to make a drug that properly induces heat. The only thing we’ve managed to do is inhibit it."

"So yes?" Jael prodded.

"Yes, but the side effects are drastic, so much so that the High Council put a ban on the production and distribution of heat and rut inducers."

Jael looked thoughtful, "So not just anyone can get their hands on it."

"To put it plainly, it shouldn’t exist anymore." Doctor Perez said gravely.

Even without saying the words, the situation was plain enough to see. He had already informed the Alpha that Caspian was in heat, so putting the puzzles together was fairly easy.

"So in that case, there’s no fix?"

Micheal rubbed his balding head, furrows on his brows as he was deep in thought. "There are several recipes, to put it simply, and each person reacts differently to inducers which makes the substance volatile and difficult to study. There’s no fix but it’s usually a short burst lasting shorter than a usual heat."

The doctor adjusted the lapels of his white coat, "The only thing to be done is to wait it out, depending on how your Mafia King’s mate reacts to it, the drug should more or less be out of his system by the end of the day."

Jael heaved a silent sigh of relief, Caspian’s well-being was far more important than catching the mastermind behind it. There also wouldn’t be a repeat of this, Jael would make sure of that.

But all this now begged the question of who would be able to get their hands on an inducer. A Mafia King possibly but Davian wouldn’t do that and Nikolai had no drive.

Caspian’s past remained in Lockwood after he handed everything over to Noah, so there was no motive but even if there was, Noah wouldn’t be able to get his hands on a heat inducer unless he had the help of the High Council...

The High Council would be able to get an inducer, quite easily but Jael had a difficult time figuring out why they would want to do that. They rarely ever got involved in Haines so they didn’t fit the bill.

Micheal studied the right-hand man for a few minutes, visibly racking his brains. "If it’s a one-time thing, whoever it was is probably trying to get Mafia King Asher’s mate pregnant."

Jael whipped around at that, "You’re certain of that."

"Inducers interfere with heat suppressants, which is no surprise, they’re meant to do the exact opposite of each other. One of the side effects is suppressants having no effect for a while so after this, Mafia King Asher’s mate is going to have his heats as usual."

The room was so silent, that Jael could hear a pin drop. When Lake had pointed out the mastermind wanted Caspian pregnant.

"And if there’s a repeat of it?" He asked carefully, reminded that he hadn’t heard everything the doctor had to say.

"Then they’re trying to stop him from having children. Multiple doses is fatal to the body, it’ll completely destroy his chances of having a child in the future."

Jael felt queasy, Asher wasn’t going to be happy to hear this.

Doctor Perez’s last words hung heavy in the room for a good long while, at first, Jael had been happy to get trustworthy answers but now, he didn’t want to know anymore.

The first thing that would need to be done would be to get an in-house doctor, and to also have someone with them at all times to ensure their safety.

He would discuss all of that with Asher, it was still up to the Mafia King to protect his mate after all, Jael could just make suggestions.

"Would you like something to eat or drink?" Jael remembered his manners out of nowhere to ask.

Doctor Perez had been checking in on the IV, looking over his shoulders when he was asked the question. "Sure..."

Jael’s phone rang then and he shot to his feet to answer it, silently excusing himself.

While he made the call, he went to the kitchen himself to have a maid be sent to ask what the doctor would like to have. He didn’t return just yet, he needed some air, and maybe some mints.

Lake woke up with a frown, displeased to see just Doctor Perez and Jael sitting at his bedside. "Where’s Davian?"

"The boss is on his way," Doctor Perez was the one to answer, "Are you hungry."

Lake’s response was a muffled gag, "I’ll pass," He said grimly. "Is Caspian okay?" This question was directed at Jael.

It was sundown now and until Asher came out of that room, Jael wasn’t about to be nosy, He deduced that they were probably both sleeping the heat off and would be out for dinner if Doc Perez’s words held true.

"He should be," Was the only thing Jael could say.

"Caspian will be fine, heat inducers take a toll on the body so he’ll feel out of it for a few days." Doctor Perez chimed in. The last thing he wanted was for Lake to add to his worries.

"Davian should also be here soon," He was quick to tag on, "So maybe try drinking some ginger tea to..."

Jael’s phone rang then, it was a brief call, and he rose to his feet as soon as he hung up. "Davian is here. I’ll go bring him."

Lake’s eyes went wide but he said nothing as Jael slipped out of the room. This was the very thing he had been trying to avoid, but if he couldn’t get better without Davian’s presence then he really didn’t have any other choice.

In hindsight, it meant that Davian would have to take him where ever he went so he didn’t feel too bad about being such high maintenance.

It was just roughly a day since Davian left but it felt like forever. The IV needle was outof his arm, and he didn’t need more because he had managed to keep it in for hours now.

It was why although Doctor Perez lightly suggested that Lake try to eat something, he didn’t push too hard because he didn’t want to trigger another bout of throwing up.

The doctor rose to his feet when the door opened again but Davian didn’t even seem to see him, the Alpha beelining for Lake on the bed.

Lake would have pouted and cried a little at Davian showing up but the Alpha looked downright catatonic, so he found himself comforting him instead.

"Hey, I’m fine," Lake said softly when Davian gathered him in his arms, his head tucked into the curve of his neck. "I just got a little nauseous, maybe we’ll have to find a way to bottle your scent," He teased lightly.

Davian didn’t respond, the Alpha didn’t let him go but those huge shoulders were trembling slightly. It made him glare at Doctor Perez, what had the balding man told his husband to have him so shaken?

The cold stare made Doctor Perez take a few steps back and mumble a few words about giving them some privacy before hot-footing it out of the room with Jael in tow.

Lake wanted to keep talking but Davian’s scent was like oxygen, it felt like an addict getting a fix, his breathing deepening. Nausea was exhausting, and he had felt this way for hours so although he just slept, he found himself dozing off again in Davian’s arms.
