Jael went to find Caspian before the Omega noticed the absence of his friend and jumped to his own conclusions.

They were on the dance floor when he showed up so he hung back in the shadows until they were done.

The engagement party had been completely peaceful but it didn’t mean he could slack off. The ceremony was lax, there was little Asher and Caspian had to do, save for mingle and exchange rings.

The major part of the party was just eating, drinking and dancing.

"Need company?" An unfamiliar voice drifted into his thoughts.

Jael glanced down at the petite Omega that had somehow managed to find him in the dark.

She was so drunk that she was stumbling, so he had a feeling that her stumbling into him had been an accident.

"No, thanks," He bluntly turned her down, "You should take a seat and sober down."

Asher and Caspian had returned from the dance floor then so he slipped past her with ease, not turning around even once.

The Omega straightened up from her previous unsteady position, her eyes narrowed. The second-in-command was such a tough nut to crack.

Unaware of this, Jael lithely slipped behind Asher and Caspian.

"Lake had to leave early," He did his job of informing Caspian.

The horrified look on Caspian’s face was expected, and although Asher was concerned, the Alpha had a hard time hiding his happiness at that piece of information.

"He’s fine. Davian said he was tired." Jael tried to de-escalate the situation.

"Do you think he had another wave of nausea?" Caspian asked with a frown, he had made sure to include a variety of nonalcoholic drinks without fizz in the menu just for his friend.

Jael remembered back to the sight of Davian unhurriedly carrying Lake, he doubted that but he didn’t say it. "Probably, you can go check up on him tomorrow."

That was enough to ease most of Caspian’s worries, but the furrow in his brow was still there.

Jael left the rest to Asher, easily slipping through the crowd to continue his job of patrolling the premises.

His phone rang as he stepped out into the cold night, and he picked up without looking at the screen.

The only calls he had gotten all night were from the men reporting in from their stations, so he just quietly listened to them list off the necessary information and then hung up.

The first half of the party was the easy one, soon guests would get drunk and become nuisances, however unintentionally.

As he walked around the perimeter of the building, a strange movement in a dark corner caught his attention. Jael immediately reached for the gun strapped to his belt, silently moving closer.

Before he got close enough to figure out who it was, a scantily dressed male Omega stepped out - and you guessed it, he was also drunk.

Jael had never been an Omega magnet so he knew that whoever these Omegas were, they were actively seeking him out.

He didn’t lower his gun, pressing the cold mouth of the gun to the Omega’s scent gland. "The next one of you to approach me, will get their heads blown off."

The lights outside the event hall spilled over the Omega’s skin, the warm light making his skin look like honey.

His big eyes widened in terror but he said nothing, silently waiting and hoping that Jael didn’t decide to start with him.

When Jael retrieved his gun and took a step back, he darted out of the Beta’s sight, too shaken to try to go ahead with his mission.

Jael watched him scurry off with a thoughtful expression, trying to figure out why anyone would try to get his attention with a partner.

They were clearly grasping at straws because they didn’t even seem to have a clue about his preference.

It didn’t matter anyway, he wasn’t interested regardless of who they sent. He wasn’t curious about who could be behind it because it could be anyone.

He decided to move his patrolling indoors, it was all clear outside.

Lake was sapped of all his energy from the crying bout he had earlier, so he laid back and let Davian take the lead.

The Alpha broke off the kiss to mark up his neck, and he felt the pleasure in his gums when Davian bit down on his mating mark.

It made Lake glance down at the Alpha hazily, maybe it was all the wedding and engagement plans for the last month but he seriously thought about completing his mating with Davian.

Thoughts about exchanging mating marks were wiped clean when Davian scrapped sharp teeth across his collarbones, his nipples pebbled between long fingers.

He slipped his hands into Davian’s hair to guide him to where he needed him to be, tempted to ask the Alpha to grow out his hair, so he could have a better grip.

And he knew that Davian would do it, he liked to think that Davian did things just because he asked but what importance did he really hold over a Mafia King?

So the logical reasoning was that Davian did want to do the things he asked of him.

Thoughts soon became tedious with Davian’s fingers in him, kisses given generously.

Lake wrapped his legs around Davian when the Alpha pushed into him, blunt nails scratching at his tattooed back.

Davian leaned in when Lake pulled him in for a kiss, hesitating when he got a closer look at Lake’s face. "You’re crying again," He murmured, worried that he was careless and hurt Lake.

"I’m fine," Lake reassured him, lifting up a hand to wipe his face. He hadn’t realized that he was crying, he was just so happy... "I’m happy."

"You say that but you’re still crying," Davian said dryly, brushing the tears off his face.

"Shut up and move," Lake grumbled, tucking his face into the curve of Davian’s neck.

He could very easily sink his teeth into the Alpha’s neck, but they still needed to talk things out.

Isabella and Clint had made him painfully aware of how easy it could be to lose Davian, and he wasn’t going to let that happen to one of the few people who had ever taken care of him.
